- I realized there wasn't a high-quality version of this on youtube so here it is. This is the original opening by Pioneer featuring the "Rock The Dragon" song. This was ripped straight from the Pioneer DVDs with Handbrake on the highest quality.
This is the ONLY version on UA-cam that is the original, as was played on tv in the 90s. Perfect upload.
Good old Ocean Dub days.
Agree, they upload hds and uhds, but nothing can beat that feeling of 480p in an old 4:3 tv screen

The moves Goku used before he became a super Saiyan always had finesse
I love this intro because of the fights from those first DBZ movies. They had great fights because it had a nice mix of martial arts and energy blast. Plus, this intro just feels more raw.
❤❤❤❤I agree with you but do you know something that’s kind of misleading is that Goku’s fighting style is always being mistaken as chinese wushu or kung fu as some might say but still no not even close based on what I can tell being a fan of Dragonball Z and of martial arts in real life Goku fighting style totally isn’t chinese at all his fighting style is more of superhero fighting style with ridiculous exaggerated superpowers and also more of 90% mixture of both Shotokan and Kyokushin Karate with Taekwondo and only 10% is a mixture of some chinese martial arts like Hung Kar and Bajiquan which is the only chinese martial arts style that he has with a little bit of other styles like Muay Thai , Boxing , Brawling , Pro Wrestling and some Gymnastics. As you can see here Son Goku ain’t no Kung Fu expert or Judoka or even a grappler he’s more of a Karateka / Taekwondo Master / Bodybuilder / Superhero than a chinese martial arts expert or even a judoka or grappler in MMA and he sure as hell ain’t no martial artist that’s for sure but still he’s great he’s my favourite anime character ever

@@Jago-Shogun not really Goku fighting style is totally not chinese I know take my word for it only his stances and poses infact Goku’s fighting style is more of a mixture of Kyokushin karate and Taekwondo get it I know because I’ve learned chinese martial arts before and Goku is no chinese martial artist his forms may look chinese but it’s not it’s nothing more of Kyokushin Karate and Taekwondo with some ridiculous kung fu stances and poses get it infact Goku fighting style only has a tiny bit of chinese martial arts and that is Bajiquan and a tiny bit of other fighting styles such as Muay Thai and Japanese style Pro Wrestling get it

In the late 90s when I came home from school, I happened to turn on the TV and Dragon Ball Z was on. Don't know if the action hooked me or the intro music, but I was hooked after that.

I typically enjoy the Japanese version of DBZ the most, but I must say I enjoyed this theme and the Pioneer episodes that aired when I was a kid.

I was lucky enough (I say lucky because I live in the UK) to get the Pioneer DVD 'Destruction' (featuring the infamous 'It's over 9000!' episode) recently, and words could not describe how happy I was when this intro played.

I remember watching Dbz on toonami at 10 pm on the weekend I watched it every week plus growing up I never had a bed time I feel a sleep watching tv and never had a problem waking up in the morning the good old days I miss my childhood

Yeaaaah.... I just realized that about 97% of this is the movies....
1% are shots made for this intro, which includes the blasts from Tien and Vegeta going SSJ. The last 2% is nappa flying through the plane and Trunks killing Frieza.
And I'm pretty sure the Trunks scene is actually made FOR this Intro, as it doesn't quite resemble the actual scene.
Don't get me wrong, I love the music. But putting that aside... wow.
This opening used or sheets trip me out as a kid because it used scenes from the movies. So as a kid I always wondered why I never saw those episodes.

While there was that, but the part that gets me is that it had Trunks at the end. He didn’t appear until after Funimation started doing the Dubbing on their own instead of hiring Pioneer to release the series with the Canadian Dub.
