The background art at 0:58 is so pretty. The art in this film period, is just really gorgeous. That's one thing I miss dearly about 80's and 90's anime.
DBS needs to learn from the old DBZ days, especially the action scenes, we felt the weight of how hard Goku punched, unlike dbs where it is just circles and screaming. I wish we can go back to simplier times like this.
Not only is this the BEST voice acting i've ever seen with DBZ, the sound effects are top of the line. This dub is so underrated and overlooked its unbelievable.
1:10 - 2:30 is just so entertaining to watch. So much stuff going on. And I LOVE how the animators portrayed the 3x Kaio Ken, showing Goku flying up to beat the electricity guy while the other guy is flying after getting hit. Incredible. Pete Kalamis knew EXACTLY how to portray Goku across ANY English Dub of the anime.
I think he's pretty soft though his fighting ability is NOT! He doesn't have a lot of killing intent compared to some of the people he fought. Perfect type of hero.
FireBomberBassist "That tub of lard was a good warm up but..." Real Goku is vicious. Sean basically turned him into a hero. It's not just funimation censors. Sean had a hand in it.
Agree I prefer Shawn's voice, but in these films Peter's voice was better. I wish Funimaton's English dub would re-dub the films and Dragon Ball Season again.
Yup, I was first exposed to DBZ in the early Days of Toonami, when they hadn't even released the Funimation dub yet. So up to Goku's fight with Recoome, that is Ocean. From that point on, is Funimation. Just like it was on the show. I am too old to learn to love Kai; I have the Funimation and Ocean scenes burned into my soul.
@@darmocat same. I remember after Goku arrived on Namek they did a rerun from the beginning. Then when we assumed new episodes would air, we got new voices. Vegeta was the most obvious change. Maybe his voice box got so injured by recoome that when he healed it never did 100% and got even deeper overtime (by super). When he ate the bean, he mentally said ge felt great in old voice not out loud. So jelly vegeta in Super can be like his old younger self trying to come back.
Man, Peter Kelamis really nails the _high pitch_ of the screams too, something that Sean, however awesome he may be, could never do. He always sounded gravelly.
Peter Kelamis did a good job of portraying Goku here. While Sean is still my #1 pick, I just can't help but respect him for being able to capture Nozawa's Goku very well. Watching Super made me appreciate Nozawa's voice work alot, so hearing Kelamis deliver a fantastic performance here is making me want Kelamis to return in the Bang Zoom dub at the very least.
@@therandom_dude The Bang Zoom dub was a Los Angeles-based dub of Super that was done by the company Bang Zoom Entertainment for Asian audiences. The dub has unfortunately been cancelled for a good while at this point, though.
Does Kelamis do anime anymore? That’s why he replaced Ian Corlett, because Corlett didn’t wanna do anime anymore. And Kirby Morrow is of course unfortunately dead, so Kelamis is the only choice left.
2:46 holy fuck! The way kelamis screams immediately after goku invokes the kaioken is incredible. That surge of potential energy would be WAY too much for an average human. Good thing he's a saiyan.
Seeing the Ocean Dubs of the movies makes me wish they got to dub the series like this, accurate script, no censorships and whatnot. If they didn't have Saban breathing down their necks their dub of the series could have been amazing.

Thank you so much for sharing this! Everything about this is what made DBZ the powerhouse it USED to be! Peter Kelamis! Scott Mcneil as Piccolo! The Kaioken!! Fun and creative villains! Awesome martial action! RIP OCEAN DUB!!
Is that what he said? I loved Ocean’s dub work here the original score and the sound effects are just in perfect harmony. I’d assume you wouldn’t be able to hear Goku because a beam struggle of that proportion would probably be loud as hell!
Peter Kelamis is fantastic, even though I also love Sean Schemmel's performance, Peter Kelamis was the first voice of Goku I heard, and he's even better than I remembered!😊
Still my favorite DB movie by far, and it always will be. In particular, this dub with the Japanese soundtrack as featured here. I remember watching this as a kid every time it was on, the animation the soundtrack and fight scenes are top-notch. IMO one of the prime examples of what makes Dragon Ball Z special to so many people from every walk of life.
Goku from early DBZ has a very monkeyish aesthetic to him, he's always squatting very low, he's very buff but you see little definition most of the time, his ears are huge and there's the way he open his mouth very wide when he's yelling, I really dig it.
Even from Mexico, where we idolize the Mexican voice actor for Goku. I must say that Peter Kelamis was the perfect Goku, striking the perfect balance between being comedic and serious in his tone, voice and acting.
1:50-2:10 For those that have seen Nozawa's version, Kelamis is actually superior here. Which is incredible. Nozawa's scream right after the Kaio-Ken was actually cut into two screams for some odd reason. Kelamis's scream ADR was carried through.
I bought the dvds of the first 3 movies of this dub it's my favorite dub. Accurate to the JP script using the OG score just like Kai did except most of ocean consists of good people.
Still the best DBZ movie. And this is still the best dub of this movie. This piece in particular was my introduction to DBZ. Up until then, I'd grown up as a Superman junkie... needless to say, was a wee bit overwhelmed.
Biggest reason I loved the ocean dubs, other than all of the dialogue is just... so much better, the emotional range too. Buuuut.. When they are screaming, they are really screaming. While I know the lower toned shouts are healthier throat wise for the recording artists of Funimation, and I would not dare ask them to destroy their own vocal chords and throats for me, it just doesn't have the same feeling. Imagine if Asura's wrath had that funimation even toned yelling stuff.
I miss the days when there was a heavier emphasis on martial arts as opposed to beam battles, power levels and transformations. Still love some DBZ though.
Yeah, for me the first 3 movies are peak DBZ for this reason alone. Especially this one. Its so nostalgic for me and actually feels like theyre beating the shit outta each other. It feels real, dark, and mature. While modern dbz feels more kiddy, where they seem more like superheroes. There's very little weight to the fights, it's all superhuman powers. While with these, it's more real martial arts amplified by fantastical feats. Something with these old movies, the stellar ocean dub and music, the martial arts, and that old gritty drawn artstyle, it's like the perfect combination of elements that couldn't have happened any other time. Like im enjoying daima, and enjoyed super, but its too clean, sterile, and just none of that martial arts grit. The modern shows feel way more geared to kids, where its less martial artists fighting brutally, and more funny superheroes. I hadn't watched the old movies or dbz in general for years, watching back in my 30s, I think its even more badass now. I'm like "holy shit no wonder why I loved DBZ". Nothing has gotten me so nostalgic as these movies.
So I recently watched the re-dubbed version of the World's Strongest and it just didn't feel the same to me. To go with Gohan's cheesy dream-music being completely different, the ambient music and sounds just wasn't doing it for me. What is one of my favorite DBZ movies all of a sudden just felt like an old show I liked as a kid. I say all that to bring me up to this point where I'm watching/hearing The World's Strongest as I remember. This put a smile on my face and gave me that flood of nostalgia. Goku's voice being so damn high-pitch but working so great to make him sound like a mad-man when he uses the kaioken, the explosion sound effects, and whirling ambient wind noises of the Kaioken, and the build up of the music when Goku starts casting the Kamehameha on Dr.Wheelo. This is why I love(d) this movie.
I also like that the ocean dub, like the japanese dub, they are not shouting their KI-ais constantly. You only release the scream / breathe of air at the pinnacle of your strike.
I remember the ocean dubs. I was so confused as I also saw Funimation dubs the same time. But man, I miss this old series. Characters actually used martial arts!!!! Now it's nothing but lasers and giant energy balls.
This Blu Ray version is phenomenal. The picture and sound quality is epic. I can heard each ground breaking and wind whirling effect. The voices being echo in Dr. Wheelo's lair sound good. The sound engineers did such a great job with this excellent piece of animated work. Ocean studios did it the best with the first three movies! These clips bring back great memories of the Kaioken. It was such a great technique b/c Goku was limited on time so he had to go all out which is why the fights are so good when he uses it vs. when he is a Super Saiyan he fights in a more relaxed and calm state w/o urgency a lot of the times due to the fact he can stay powered much longer.
The Ocean Dub in this movie is so much better than Funimation. Not just because I like Kelamis better as Goku, but because the sound design is so much better. The Kaioken sound effects sound like a damn jet engine going off.
The action in this scene is SOOO crisp. Love how he instantly chooses violence during the staring contest. And the Kaioken is masterfully illustrated

Jose Garcia BEcause it's so brutal. You can feel every punch, where as as the series went on, it was more about the spectacle. Sure they were more powerful, but this one just strikes me as far more brutal because he didn't curbstomp the bad guys after getting Super Saiyan 2
@@JoseGarcia-yz3yb the fights look like they actually hurt and have impact
The background art at 0:58 is so pretty. The art in this film period, is just really gorgeous. That's one thing I miss dearly about 80's and 90's anime.
This is the old school DBZ action I grew up with and loved. It's so well done in Ocean Dub. And the animation and action are top notch in this movie
Same here 💯
DBS needs to learn from the old DBZ days, especially the action scenes, we felt the weight of how hard Goku punched, unlike dbs where it is just circles and screaming. I wish we can go back to simplier times like this.
Like the cheeta roar when Goku punched vegeta.
100% agree
Absolutely could not agree more.
@Josiah Pierce well no shit. look how strong they have become now compared to this...
@Josiah Piercequit being a dick
I love how he says kaioken in this one and how he snuffs that dude with elbow then kicks dude in the face. Thing of beauty.
''KAIOKEN X 3 *GAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAHHH!* “ 2:45
my childhood.
Shits too badass.
Flanker Eagle Goku is the most underrated character. They always portray him as a dumbass but actually he's vicious.
I think he's pretty soft though his fighting ability is NOT! He doesn't have a lot of killing intent compared to some of the people he fought. Perfect type of hero.
***** I thought he was vicious in the lord slug fight when he went bonkers.
FireBomberBassist "That tub of lard was a good warm up but..." Real Goku is vicious. Sean basically turned him into a hero. It's not just funimation censors. Sean had a hand in it.
Peter Kelamis was my fav english goku and still is. His Kaioken was so good!
Bro… these are the best Kaio-ken scenes. It gives me goosebumps hearing him scream “Kaio-ken x 3”.
YOU DARE TAKE THE SON OF A SAIYAN!
On the real though I love that his pronunciation of Kaioken is accurate 😌
i am from germany and the ocean dub is by far the best english Dub. Peter Kelamis fits perfectly to Goku
Agree
I prefer Shawn's voice, but in these films Peter's voice was better. I wish Funimaton's English dub would re-dub the films and Dragon Ball Season again.
Kelamis was so hyped up doing this movie. I swear he came to studio releasing anger or something. Love it!
How I see both dubs.
Early DBZ: Ocean Dub
Late DBZ: Funimation Dub
True that.. grew up watching DBZ in the 90s, it's like they went through puberty with us, the voices sound younger in the early seasons
SilencerRolf i 100% agree ocean dub nailed younger goku perfect in my opinion after namek funimation is great
@@darmocat same.
Spitting facts right there!
Peter was one of the few English actors who really nailed Goku's voice, in my opinion.
This IS Gokus voice, the others are all fakes
Man, Peter Kelamis really nails the _high pitch_ of the screams too, something that Sean, however awesome he may be, could never do. He always sounded gravelly.
ROLF WILL RELEASE HIS RAGE NOW!
TELL ME BRAIN IN A JAR ED-BOY, HAVE YOU EVER EXPERIENCED THE ALMIGHTY THREE KAIO-KEN BEATING!?!?
Shaklahkah!
Life has many doors, Ed-boys!
THE BURDEN OF HOSPITALITY IS TOO GREAT FOR ROLF!
Spino's Gaming Channel They dare disrespect the son of a Sayin?!
This was actually the movie that started it all for me been a fan ever since
Peter Kelamis did a good job of portraying Goku here.
While Sean is still my #1 pick, I just can't help but respect him for being able to capture Nozawa's Goku very well.
Watching Super made me appreciate Nozawa's voice work alot, so hearing Kelamis deliver a fantastic performance here
is making me want Kelamis to return in the Bang Zoom dub at the very least.
Adam Alarcon bang what?
I assume they meant Ocean Group, as BangZoom is an American dubbing agency, and Kelamis is a Canadian talent.
And Kirby Morrow is of course unfortunately dead, so Kelamis is the only choice left.
is this not the most badass thing ever drawn?
zazazaz when it dawns on you that someone drew all this.
2:46 holy fuck! The way kelamis screams immediately after goku invokes the kaioken is incredible. That surge of potential energy would be WAY too much for an average human. Good thing he's a saiyan.
Holy hell, Goku was a real beast in this film
Mew 2 you And when he went mad during his fight with Lord slug.
The fight choreography is pure brilliance.
The fury when this Goku shouts. The speed running. The kaio-kens. This is the good stuff gents. This is the legit dbz. Welcome to church.
I love the speed running so much and idk why. And then when Gamma 1 did it in Dragon Ball Super Hero the newest movie I got excited lol
@@nickb6425 you're valid, man.
A very old style of Dragon Ball that I wish could come back. A Very raw feel
Seeing the Ocean Dubs of the movies makes me wish they got to dub the series like this, accurate script, no censorships and whatnot. If they didn't have Saban breathing down their necks their dub of the series could have been amazing.
the ocean dub of the ENTIRE dbz is out there. i think over in europe. i'm on the lookout for it
Real question though, is it uncut?
@@mayasharyasharala22 I know I'm one year late but hear is a link to the entire ocean dub of Dragon ball Z from the Saiyan saga to Kid Buu saga. But they never dubbed the frieza saga. :) : mega.nz/folder/WEEGwD4b#wImrVaMHlize_ogLy6nV5g/folder/iYkygZyb

1:38 one of the most brutal hits in DB, imo
Thank you so much for sharing this! Everything about this is what made DBZ the powerhouse it USED to be! Peter Kelamis! Scott Mcneil as Piccolo! The Kaioken!! Fun and creative villains! Awesome martial action! RIP OCEAN DUB!!
man, you can feel the punches/kicks from the older dbz styles!! these feel like actual fights.
I don't know why, but I loved that "POWER UUUUUP!" he yelled.
Is that actually the line? I really can't tell.
That gives me goosebumps
Idj what he said but I loved it
Is that what he said?
I loved Ocean’s dub work here the original score and the sound effects are just in perfect harmony. I’d assume you wouldn’t be able to hear Goku because a beam struggle of that proportion would probably be loud as hell!
These old blocky designs with the thick sharp edges are the best. I hate the new skinny soft designs in Dragon Ball Super. eff that SHizz.
+Vinny LT That's what I'm saying!! Freaking terrible! This will forever be my favorite movie!
Smh super as a whole is complete garbage
It's nice to know I'm not the only person who feels that way! Speak the truth my friend! lol
100% Agree with this
+Ishida1694 Before I go into an entire monologue, let me just say that as far as I'm concerned, DragonBallZ ended with the Majin Buu saga.
This the real version i remember so well. Its just too good to forget about.
You meam sean schemmel?
Kelamis's scream ADR was carried through.
i remember going to blockbuster and renting this on VHS and being so pumped seeing these goku fight scenes, still gives me goosebumps
The impact of the hits during this scene cant be matched
Peter Kelamis is my favorite English Goku. I wish we could have gotten a full Ocean Kai dub with him.
Same
Unfortunately, we did not get the dubbing of Ocean Kai Dub
goddamn goku was a beast in this movie! this is the goku i love
OH MY GOD, HE SAID KAIOKEN RIGHT! I'm starting to see why people like this movie's dub
Kelamis might actually rival Schemel's Kai voice, I'm legitimately impressed.
I bought the dvds of the first 3 movies of this dub it's my favorite dub. Accurate to the JP script using the OG score just like Kai did except most of ocean consists of good people.
Now, you see the best voice acting ever done for Goku.
@@Nate-ll4do Schemel is trash as goku
Still the best DBZ movie. And this is still the best dub of this movie. This piece in particular was my introduction to DBZ. Up until then, I'd grown up as a Superman junkie... needless to say, was a wee bit overwhelmed.
phantasmicyouth agreed!
Sadly none of Superman's fights have the knockdown drag out intensity that DB fights have had.
KI-ais? What's that?
+RagoziHD It was in the description at the end. It's the shout sound you make, or silent breath you make when you make a strike.
Now that sean schemmel has revealed hos true colors as an asshole I wish theyd bring back peter to voice goku
I want to see the Ocean Dub as a whole come back, which is rumored what's gonna happen by Toei.
@Heyjose25points Never heard of Kelamis as Black? ua-cam.com/video/28xDh9LbSCY/v-deo.html (video is mostly a meme)

RagoziHD I think it's more like, "KAIOUKEN TIMES THREE--*PAIN*"
To me it sounds like Kaioken x3 rah
Yoon Baai daaa.....!!!!
This dub actor is my favorite Goku. He was the first to pronounce kaio-ken properly
This “ Ocean Dub” version still will always be the first Dragon Ball Z Movie dubbed.
I remember the ocean dubs. I was so confused as I also saw Funimation dubs the same time.
But man, I miss this old series. Characters actually used martial arts!!!! Now it's nothing but lasers and giant energy balls.
Imma need new anime fans to come watch how the old school did it. This fight choreography has aged very well💯
Yeah I'm right here, this shit is amazing
Old school anime > Today's anime
Ocean dub is the only one for me
This Blu Ray version is phenomenal.
When the only real problem with your dub is superimposed sound effects, it's no competition at all which is the best one.
The Ocean Dub in this movie is so much better than Funimation. Not just because I like Kelamis better as Goku, but because the sound design is so much better. The Kaioken sound effects sound like a damn jet engine going off.
I am glad they pronounced Kaioken correctly and it is not "kei-o-ken", it's "kai-o-ken".
this is one time kelamis did right
Superior voice actor for goku.
I loved it. And the Doctors Laugh was amazing
1:52 possibly one of the most badass moments in dbz history
