I love the tension created by the sign language when you actually understand what he’s saying. They’re already in a tense situation. Weapons have a very high possibility of being drawn at this point. The mute guy says “This is why I told you to bring your gun today.” Other guy thinks McCloud can’t understand him. “My partner thinks that-“ “I know what he said.” So not only can McCloud see their intentions to kill him, he also knows they tried to lie to him, he can read through any secret communication they may have planned to use, and they’re either bluffing and don’t have a weapon or, more likely, it confirms they do have weapons, and are ready to use them. The tension creates in this one scene is absolutely incredible, and I can’t wait to endure another four years before episode 2 comes out, lol. (But seriously, take your time, man.)

Stay tuned. It'll drop in a couple months. I have around 33 minutes finished out of a roughly 36 minute-long animation. The rest of this current scene, and the final scene of the cartoon, then episode 2 will be polished and published.

0:20 I love how Eckblade's eyes move away from James as he's explaining his knowledge of James's improvised hidden pistol, almost like he's trying to imagine what it really looks like considering he probably only knows the description of it based on what Pigma has told him. It's a subtle but very attentive detail.

What's cool about this is that we've never seen any canon material (that I'm aware of) about James being a badass like this, so it gives Fred more freedom than with most other characters in this adaptation. Honestly this gave me chills. You can tell that James has been through a lot which makes him very dangerous. Can't wait to see more! :)

    • @nickthepick8043

That begs the question... What exactly did James go through?
We know that he was a Martial before, implying he was in the Cornerian Military.
Maybe there was a previous Cornerian/Venomian Political situation/war before the Lylat Wars of StarFox 64.
And putting Andross on Venom may be the key reason tensions are high again. Pepper did say he regretted doing that now.

    - His messy hair

The end of It Is assured to mean something related to Shooting, but everything else Is superficial for those who disowns the language. [Meaning that there are so many possibilities, like *"We surround him out of the train walking slowly out of the window, then we shoot him",* or another perspective like: *"He Is covering his left arm. He seems to have attached a Fire Weapon"* (After that one, he might mean "and he Is about to shoot us down", or "and shot his partner").]

Now I’m no professional but I believe he said/signed “This is why I told you to bring your gun today” or something about Killing James. What he basically reveals is that only one of them is carrying a gun, making it so much easier for James. Also, we don’t know if James actually knows sign language. He could have just been tipped off by the gun sign and is half-bluffing.
It helps increase the tension of the scenario, leaning more towards James in favor of winning the fight if it ever starts, but no one really knows

I love the framing of these scenes -- the upshots of both James and the lemurs. Upshots usually imply dominance over another character, that one is looming authoritatively and is in control of the situation. But the fact that they're BOTH framed this way really sells that this is truly a standoff between the two parties. Matthew Gafford never ceases to impress me. :)

@Deepest Red I appreciate the advice buddy! I'm an animator/artist myself. Though the school I went to was crappy. We learned too little across to many disciplines. Basic game design, animation 2D & 3D, storyboarding, 3D modeling, etc. The school hss been demolished now. It went out of business. Compared to people like Matthew Gafford here, I have a long way to go. And that's including my two years spent there. And not only that, but the industry itself nowadays won't want to hire you unless you have a degree or two years of experience. Often both. But nobody wants to train anybody anymore. Everyone always expects you to have experience before just as soon as you start out. I get it. My animation sucks. But I want to be BETTER. I am NOT going back to school just so I can waste more money so somebody can give me a piece of paper telling me that I can.

After seeing episode two and seeing how different this scene played out in the final version is amazing. The entire scene stuck with me after watching the episode. Desslar Coba seemed like a good guy, I kind of liked him. Seeing him talk to James and then just quietly slump over dead while James is looking at the file and talking about his own dislike of venom only to realize his friend is dead sent chills through me.
There was subtle details I didn’t notice the first time I saw it, but during his last words “this really is and ugly planet” a small fleck of blood hits his hand and when James looks back up at him you see blood filling the corner of his mouth and coming out of his nose. And when eckblade says “your friend looks tired” you can really see the blood in his mouth trickling out 😨
Something about that is far more chilling than this version because you aren’t quite sure what killed poor Desslar. At least in this version you can assume he got shot or stabbed.
Then there is the tense scene that follows between James and the separatists. Man, this was all so well done. Kudos to everyone involved

This one minute long contextless clip put me on the edge of my seat more than any big studio thing I've seen in a very, very long time. I love the visual filter, and the audio has this almost compressed crunch that gives it a 70's vibe that I'm in love with. Please don't stop working on it!

I really like this clip. The music, the faces, the moment James snaps back at Eckblade. Makes total sense for things to get more tense if James did indeed catch him attempting to lie.

    • @DianTherra9
      @DianTherra9 6 років тому +4

Also, another detail I like: James' ears. Of course, it isn't subtle, but the closer they get to what might be a bloodbath, they drop or are pulled back further. It's crazy he isn't baring fangs or anything. Also, does he really have a shooter? Or is there... something else about his hand? ;)

CLEARLY, this will be worth the wait. The shots, the music, the lighting, the voice acting with the subdued, muddled audio...all of it is phenomenal. I love how even original characters who might not be a big part of the story are given such care and attention. This is everything I imagined Star Fox was...and MORE. Keep it up!

The voice acting, the atmosphere, the camera work. The animation. But the best is The attention to detail with the character acting.
The way James eyes shift to left and right quickly. The sign language the lemur makes when talking to his partner. I think I can confidently say you've given this series more love than the creators have properly shown since 64. Zero was such a wasted opportunity, and it would've been a love letter to me and many others had they left Platinum to do what they do best, but they tied their hands entirely on the project.
