Then whenever they die they entire a purgatory and see and talk to the bosses they killed or see the bosses they spared or surrendered in their boss room doing some activate.
There is actually a Dark Souls player who uses mods to turn himself into a proper boss monster for duels. He even gives himself a tiny stamina bar and paces his fights the same way a boss would. Prowling and circling, lunging in for a flurry of strikes, and then leaving himself wide open to be counterattacked while his stamina recovers.

Really neat concept for a short game like this. To have the hero equip gear visually would've been a nice touch, adding in a "secret" line if you almost lose about being so close to victory perhaps. Also a more emotional ending would have made it real chefs kiss, something along the line of a hunter is nothing without their prey, or maybe that the hero didn't anticipate actual death for Xora.
Does that dialouge about getting a raise mean he survives? I'm a bit confused that he kind of explodes when he's defeated but there's that whole exchange.
I'm pretty sure he's dead, it gives the same vibe as "give them hell for me" in action movies when someone is about to die and they know it, fucking sad.

After that lvl, Xora goes straight to the fight. I reached lvl 17 but after that, it was nearly to impossible to beat her.
I kinda want to see more games that use this concept. Playing as a giant boss with set patterns, fighting weirdly persistent heroes, maybe get to know said heroes, it's got a lot of potential and could probably get expanded into a whole game. We need more villain games dang it!
This was awesome! Really loved the friendship that you see slowly form through each encounter. It would be neat to see an extra ending where page takes the cosmic highway back in time to bring xora with her.
Difficulty: Average soulsbourne replayer Suddenly a level 1 guy with no armour and a stick boundary skips into your arena and absolutely demolishes you.
The idea of Xora being a SES and created for a specific reason reminds me of the old tales about golems. Golems are artificially created and can act as guardians who will be tasked to protect a specific purpose (although Golems aren't a "SES" as many of them can exist).
@@shadowalk3 Considering you are playing as boss and are fighting against main character which is definitely an female one..... Yea, I'm gonna need some bleach after that.

If you pay attention to the health bar, it has nothing to do with Paige´s attacks, the battles are designed in a way that you can't die too early, but also can't beat at lv 14.
Yeah! Maybe the alien and the human who were looking for the planet come back eventually? Maybe Xora meets up with their old group? There could definitely be a real story going on lol.
Hi! that's all the pretty much all the story in the game. You can survive longer but your character will just say "Let's get this overwith" at the start of each round and then start fighting. You can also die in earlier rounds if you don't fight well.

At some point the hero might even try sparing them or finding away around them but can’t almost feeling reluctant to move forward but still going the course because it’s what “their meant to do”.
Then whenever they die they entire a purgatory and see and talk to the bosses they killed or see the bosses they spared or surrendered in their boss room doing some activate.
Try playing Furi, it's a bullet hell where you get dialogue through the fights and downtime, it's really good with relationship and world building
@@richpie6308 that sounds awesome I'll try it whenever i can
There is actually a Dark Souls player who uses mods to turn himself into a proper boss monster for duels. He even gives himself a tiny stamina bar and paces his fights the same way a boss would. Prowling and circling, lunging in for a flurry of strikes, and then leaving himself wide open to be counterattacked while his stamina recovers.
Link please? That sounds awesome
@@crofoegbu6535 I couldn't find the original video I saw, but I searched for "Dark Souls 3 Hacker Miniboss" and found him again in another video.

You can't leave us with this! Please, spare us a link, a name of the channel, a video, a hint, even!
@@crofoegbu6535 Last one I remember was back in Dark Souls 2, channel name 'Grapfic'
there are also people who run Boss show down battles in the dark souls multiplayer mod scene best one i saw was in dark souls 3 they had the soul of cinder and the nameless king go up agasint dark soul gael and it was amazing to see.
Yeah a more emotional ending would have been amazing
Does that dialouge about getting a raise mean he survives? I'm a bit confused that he kind of explodes when he's defeated but there's that whole exchange.
Probably a callback to how most games despawn defeated bosses on the spot.
Or when they get pallete swapped better versions later.
Or it's sarcasm.
It's actually quite similar to when the human and green guy teleport away... just BIGGER and Xora didn't leave any loot unlike most bosses
I'm pretty sure he's dead, it gives the same vibe as "give them hell for me" in action movies when someone is about to die and they know it, fucking sad.
I really like the little detail after defeating Xoramir that the hero basically says "Thank you, Xoramir" and Xoramir told him that "But friends can call me, Xora"
Man... That guy never really thought of him as a friend...
In grief some feel the full name is needed for the final good bye.
@@dresetfrostwood8449 maybe...
Funny, I actually had a similar idea for a game, where you play as the main baddy of a videogame series that evolves from 8bit to modern 3D.
Shame that I can't make videogames lmao.
But good job on this. Its has great potential
if you wanted to make a narrative piece, the transition would be the perfect metaphor too
Im guessing you got that out from evoland?
Wait, we already have that
@@frds_skce what game is it?
@@Cavirex Evoland! It's a game where you slowly evolve from 8 bit Gameboy graphics to Hi-def poly graphics akin to post X360 and PS2/3 Era. Although instead of you playing a villain, you play the hero as usual.
Paige: Backflips into an energy ball.
Me: Relatable.
For those who have tried the game and wanted to know if there are more levels, the answer is yes. The only thing is that after lvl 14, there are no more original dialogues between them.
I've heard of a game that is kinda what you're looking for.
Check out Nefarious
Agreed we need a lot more villan games the best one I have is Overlord raising hell and that’s several years old.
It's really impressive how the game was created in such a short time with such great pixel graphics and so much dialogue.
This was awesome! Really loved the friendship that you see slowly form through each encounter.
It would be neat to see an extra ending where page takes the cosmic highway back in time to bring xora with her.
ngl I like how it kinda gets a bit wholesome in the dialogue
before well, finally defeating him
I love these reverse themed games.
2:27 "delay the inévitable"
Oh this was for the Ludum Dare Jam 50, right? It was the thème of the jam. I made a game too for it. "Nightwaker"
Difficulty: Average soulsbourne replayer
Suddenly a level 1 guy with no armour and a stick boundary skips into your arena and absolutely demolishes you.
I wish there were more games where we play the villain
Play Tyranny.
Or Nefarious!
Over lord
Prototype
Play mario and Luigi bowser's insude story
The idea of Xora being a SES and created for a specific reason reminds me of the old tales about golems. Golems are artificially created and can act as guardians who will be tasked to protect a specific purpose (although Golems aren't a "SES" as many of them can exist).
Love the sound effects and music. The bosses power up sequence is so good!
This game is so adorable (':
I want fanart of them fighting together!!
Fanarts often go into the NSFW category..
@@shadowalk3 Considering you are playing as boss and are fighting against main character which is definitely an female one.....
Yea, I'm gonna need some bleach after that.
"If you do ever defeat me, tell the Empress to give me a raise."
"Sure thing buddy."
defeats Xoramir that attempt
"Well I guess I'm getting that raise sooner than I anticipated"
One of those boss fights where you are actually sad to defeat him at last.
can we appreciate the two frame animation of the boss raising his sword and how dope those two frames are!
I want to see how much dialogue is actually in this game. Like, if you were unkillable, how far would it go before running out of new things to say?
If you pay attention to the health bar, it has nothing to do with Paige´s attacks, the battles are designed in a way that you can't die too early, but also can't beat at lv 14.
Yeah! Maybe the alien and the human who were looking for the planet come back eventually? Maybe Xora meets up with their old group? There could definitely be a real story going on lol.
Hi! that's all the pretty much all the story in the game. You can survive longer but your character will just say "Let's get this overwith" at the start of each round and then start fighting. You can also die in earlier rounds if you don't fight well.
@@AlphaBetaGamer Thanks!
@@AlphaBetaGamer oh that's good to know. In my playthrough I died the exact same round you did lol. Great video btw!
Well, it's definitely more touching than that Game with the Mad Scientist Mom you played yesterday
Both games are super cool though
@@TayTayMonty true
Great game considering it was made in a limited timespan. The dialogue is very Hades-esque - I wonder if the creator(s) are aware of it.
I wonder how many more dialogues there are. I died in the same spot, it would take serious luck or skill to get past that stage comfortably I think. Next one seems like it would be near impossible
none it just says lets get this over with
over and over again
From what I saw, there are only dialogues until level 14 after that Paige is going to fight without speaking
Didn’t expect anyone to actually make a game based off this. Neat.
when ever the boss (you) lift your sword it reminds me of a game called only one
where you, are the only one that remains alive after defeating enemies
On the stone piller right?
@@nebs6888 yes
dont remember this exactly but pretty sure the first enemies were slimes as well
you could kill them or knock them off the pillar
Wow, that was a surprisingly sad ending.
I always loved these reversed games! Like nitrome's parasite, shovel knight other parts and a lot of others i just love that!
Honestly, I hoped Xora would say something like “Well done…” after being defeated
16:18 - The text about "beating up my dad" came with the slow text sound like it was the boss saying it. Oopsie.
With the camera following the “hero” you fight against its like your playing the game in second person.
“Nice to meet you Paige. Prepare to die.” This is genuinely so badass.
This game is so cute that's not even fair.
Nice visuals, incredible dialog and interesting and vague lore.
Thanks channel and youtube for sharing this small piece of art you made my day :)
I really love this idea of becoming the enemy in the video game and fighting the ‘good guys’. I feel like video games would be the perfect platform to do that in too.
This was such a cute game, I’d love to see it more fleshed out one day
All along the only thing he wanted was a friend… and a raise
I got 1 beef: the way the text scrolls in from the right side makes it hard to read until it comes to a stop. Gives me conniptions!
I am Xoramir. Blade of The Empress. And I have never known defeat
4:46 dark souls 2 hitbox moment
Wow, this is really cool. I would love to this this expanded upon.
The fight song sounds like it could be straight from Katana Zero.
Fantastic story.
Great work.
She gets a new ability and forgets to use it against the boss. The accuracy is astounding
I opened up your Puzezl video unknowingly and thought the Steven Universe-like soundtrack was for this game. It fit somehow, even with the boss battles. Especially with the deconstruction of science fiction/fantasy tropes like Steven Universe did.
Poor guy just wants to feel included... And a raise
When you hear boss music, you groan at the fact it's the third swordboi today.
0:25 Me after having to watch the same cutscene 3rd time in a row
The chemistry between the boss and the protagonist is gold.
Something tells me that after Paige defeats the empress, she and Xora cross paths again and have a beer together
Wow, this is extremely similar to a game concept that I had sketched out about 5 years ago. Well executed and beautifully made (I still haven’t made my game). I love the banter and dialogue system, I had not bought of something like that.
The main thing that surprises me though, is that the camera and UI still focus on the ‘hero’. Xora is the protagonist here, so I would have chosen to keep the camera centered on him.
This is the feeling of what the Elden-Souls-Born is like between Player and Boss
this was such a wholesome vid and great idea with the frenemies/soulslike concept rip Xoramir.
Paige at the end: "I've won, but at what cost?"
Can't believe this is a ludum dare game! It's actually got great depth for a game made in 3 days
I thought I recognized this art style it's the dude who did Roseblight!
It's truly great when a dev shows the humanity behind an enemy / boss. You i really see it often done in games
Was he joking about the queen giving him a raise, or does he respawn too?
He most likely respawns, he doesn't seem like the joking type
I like that perspective on the ending
@@CanceltheEat if the human can respawn why can't he. It would kinda make even more sense that he could because he asked for a reason
NG+?
I'm just going to assume that Xora exploding at the end is a dramatic effect like in the Kirby games. The boss blows up, but it doesn't mean their dead.
This is a really cool concept!
the music changing with the phases is a really nice touch
Great video 👍🏻👍🏻
Noooooooo i legit had this idea months ago and never started making it :0 looks awesome!
I kinda felt bad for Xoramir in the end...
they even have the thing where you get the boss to like 1 health, choke and then never get that close again for like 5 attempts. Absolutely mint
By this time, Malenia blade of Miquella and my character are now on their second kid and paid off the mortgage. Considering moving to Stormveil as well.
God, I can just imagine the
"Well, thou art of passing skill,"
Being said everytime this dude enters his second phase
What even was the prompt for this Ludum Dare?
It was "Delay The Inevitable". I think the game fits the theme really well!
I love how we can see the relationship progress with the time
So youre basically playing a keep away character vs a rushdown character?
"Foul protagonist! Emboldened by the flame of _ambition_ ....
Someone must extinguish thy flame. Let it be _ABG_ the youtuber!"
