This is what I needed to see. I have been considering the purchase of a Ruby. Now I can see how it will actually work and sound in a church setting. Thank you. This was a huge help for me.

Yeah, you don't want to run those pedals into any amp that imparts its own "character", as these pedals are meant to be emulations of specific Fender/Vox preamp and power stages. I've experimented with them a bit, and running into a Fryette Power Station (which is a relatively neutral power amp) and _then_ into a guitar cab (with cabsim on the pedal turned OFF) works pretty well. Similarly, it works fine to run these pedals direct into an interface and apply other IRs. Another reasonable option might be an FRFR powered guitar cab (commonly used for modelers like Helix, etc.), which are more akin to PA speakers with IRs applied (I haven't tried this configuration, but there's no reason it shouldn't be usable).
Ideally I wouldn't run this into the front of another "guitar amp", but if I were in a situation where I had to, it would be into the return of the FX loop, in order to bypass the preamp.
In all the examples above, the cabsim on the pedal is disabled. However in most direct-to-board situations, using one of the 6 cabsims they provide is probably the way to go for most use-cases. The audience doesn't care which "cab" you're using as long as it sounds good.

Sorry, if this is a stupid question, but what purpose does the di-box serve? Would it make a major difference to straight go from one of these into you audio interface?

Noise and surges get stopped at the box. It acts as a buffer. A lot of pedals have them built it or you can buy a pedal form. That said, the DI box is still SUPER important to a clean connection from your board to their board.

I play a Roland Jazz Chorus 22 and a Boss Acoustic Singer. I sold tube amps and choose to keep my Roland over them.
    Kool video and advice.
Seasick Steve plays a Roland Cube and that is only one reason why I feel comfortable not even messing with tube amps anymore.

Hi Jeremy !!! Do I really need a DI Box to connect the Ruby straight to my audio interface or it sounds bad?? Thanks !!! 😊😊

You can just leave the mute on the tone master on (jewel light yellow) and then run the direct out to the board. Amp stays silent, and you can have that beautiful tone master feed the PA. Obviously a pedal board would be easier to transport than an amp (even one as light as the tone master) but I just want to make sure others know that is an option before dropping cash on pedals.

I can! But that means carrying the amp in as well, k had that in the video but cut it to make the video more succinct. It sounds killer silent too

My MXR mini iso brick was useless with my Dream pedal. It had major noise issues when used with a certain pedals. Strymon Ojai solved it perfectly. I could also say MXR/Dunlop support was surprisingly useless. Have to call them out after seeing you dc brick.
Also, I gigged last night and used a di box and I’m tempted to add one to my set up…. I wasn’t able to do a proper A/B comparison. Is it a noticeable difference? As they sponsored you, I’m not sure if you can say!

    So to switch between “amps”
Can you do it just with true bypass? Don’t you need a switch pedal?

The ruby seems to be more difficult to dial in a good tone. Thanks for the video

Can I run dream 65 direct into my interface into Daw and record or I have to put a DI box after the pedal for this use?

    • @JeremySheppard

You can go directly into an interface. I've added the di for pedal boards because it seems to be too bright/shrill directly in.

@@JeremySheppard Ignore me, I’m just being a crotchety old fart. I prefer amps onstage, but as I get older I’m kind of grateful for live music that doesn’t make your ears bleed. I left the top end of my hearing at shows back in the ‘90s and ‘00s.

how do i setup the UAFX pedals if i want the signal going to the pa/frontofhouse (this part is clear: via DI probably) plus to a speaker on stage? i need sound from behind.

    • @JeremySheppard
      @JeremySheppard  9 місяців тому +1

You could get an FR FR cab that gives stage volume and has an XLR out for the PA

The amp pedals are definitely getting better, but it's still just not the same. I built an iso cab to fix the noise issue myself 😀

😂 I had a shirt that said that, don't have the shirt anymore but DO have tinnitus in both ears from full volume, full stacks in basement shows.

    • @johnwashburn3793

@@JeremySheppard Yes, tinnitus is a common occurrence for me now and I am old. A good friend plays in my brother's church and also in bars. He quit one band because they were too loud. I couldn't enjoy them either.
Sorry about your friend. I cannot understand. Y'all are still in my prayers.

None of those tones convince me that tube amps are dead. More like guitar tone is dead. 😪

I’m not sure amps are dead. Sounds like tin.

I have the dream 65 and I'm trying to get it to sound as full a meaty as my real 65 playing through good Yamaha powered amps. Clean I can get it to work, but with gains its thin, awkwark and uninspiring.
