    Great vid! Tim Pierce is a great example and actually backs up what Pete is saying about the Iridium as far as just picking the one sound and rolling with it. I've spent loads of time with Tim and 95% of the time he is using one amp to do everything and then switches guitars and pedals to achieve different amp type sounds. I've played all of these and they are awesome. Not cheap but totally worth it!

  • @rowbags3017

    The more demos of these beauties I watched, the more I knew I needed one! - the Dream '65 to be specific. So, I took the plunge and pre-ordered one and Andertons shipped it the same morning they arrived - even though I managed to mess up my order slightly! Major thanks to Charles and everyone in Anderton's behind-the-scenes team for stepping in to sort it out on my behalf before they could even contact me.
    So... what's it like in action? Pun fully intended, it really is a "Dream"! From crystal cleans to full-on distortion, going swampy along the way, it's all there. The spring reverb's gorgeous and the tremelo blows away the simple pedal I've been using. The slightly scary thing about it all is the realisation that I really don't "need" any of my pedals when using the Dream '65 - all the tones I want are there. And it's SO much easier than messing around with IRs in my DAW - it just works and sounds great.
    Can I do a back-to-back comparison against a mic'd-up vintage Fender '65? No. And am I ever likely to own one? Probably not.
    Will I ever get a modded vintage Fender (SRV or otherwise)? Failing winning the lottery... not in a million years!
    So, are the sounds 100% accurate? - I neither know nor care... they just sound fantastic and are instantly usable. If I had to make a "Desert Island Discs" choice of just one pedal to keep with my DAW... this would be the one.

    I totally agree with Lee in the "initial thoughts" segment about a cab and amp vs. plugins about the feeling of it. I use plugins when the wife is home and doesn't want to hear it. I play the amp and 2x12 when I get those few seconds of me home alone and man, I absolutely dig it so much more. Guitar is more about the feeling and the sensation for me too! As always, great content and absolutely love you guys! Howdy from Texas!

      Drummers have used a "butt kicker" type transducer for years that mounts to their seat and vibrates it with a transducer so they can feel what the bass player is doing. A similar device for guitar bass players to feel what they're playing through their ampless rig could be SUPER helpful and thus popular. Something the size of a flask in one's back pocket maybe? If it connected to these UA pedals wirelessly via bluetooth that would be slick!

    What Lee and Pete say about the feel being different is completely true, however with stages these days being really strict about volume and sometimes physical space, you really can’t get away with having a loud amp on stage anymore. In your home it may be different if you’re lucky enough to get away with a lot of volume. But for most People it’s just not feasible anymore.

      Plus the “feel” isn’t as important if you’ve never had the ability to crank a real amp or were raised on plug-ins. It’s a generational thing.

    • @nedim_guitar
      @nedim_guitar 2 роки тому +1

      True, but the responsiveness of a solid state amp or a digital modeller is usually not as good as on a tube amp. Many pros that are very used to analogue can probably feel that there's something off, and yet many pros are also using digital modellers. They're a great tool. I personally prefer analogue amps even though I'm not a pro. I could never get the same feeling playing through my old and trusty Line 6 POD HD Pro, and I spent two weeks with the Helix without being able to tweak a usable sound. But I do have a Boss IR-200, I got it recently, and it's great! Very responsive, great feel, and the amp models have different flavours, making my pedals sound different, especially fuzz and even distortion.

    Sometimes creativity comes from less options, not more. When I get into this kind of equipment, all I do is futz with all the options and combos of options. It’s a great way to feel like I’m moving toward a goal, as long as that goal wasn’t to make a song. Or music, beyond endless noodling…keeping it simple is the hardest thing to do.

Lately my only issue with modeling has been taking my board from my amp over to the modeling and just not getting the same thing. To answer Pete on changing amp models, I have an ACS1, and I definitely switch between amp models often enough to miss that functionality if I were to get one of these UA pedals. My favorite on my ACS1 is the Fender style BUT, sometimes for a particular song or set, the Vox sounds better, and sometimes the Marshal style sounds better. The Dream does sound good here, and I think I could use it for most of what I play, so I would be interested to hear an ACS1 shootout.

      That's the one thing that keeps me from getting one of the UAD ones right away. They sound amazing, but I like the thought of having two different amps/settings on the left/right channels.
      I love playing my Vox together with my Fender as they complement each other really well and the ACS-1 can do that... would be twice the cost and space with those UAD ones. Then again, I would be perfectly happy with one UAD pedal if it really sounds and feels a lot better.

    My guitarist has the Ruby. He runs it into a Vox MV50 Clean as a power amp, then into a Toob 12S/40. Much lighter and more compact than an AC30 and you can get that sound at acceptable stage volumes. Maybe that would make a good demo UA pedal > power amp > Toob.

That’s what I do at my studio. I don’t mind using a Fractal into headphones at home. Anyway, this technology has reached a point where you can’t argue against a “real amp versus a modeler.

    Ua stuff is the bomb…finally got an ox recently-frickin awesome. Love to run my amp cab at a low attenuated stting with gain from the the amp of course but also from my board but then get the OX delay and verb thru the monitors (with a subwoofer fyi) and at reasonable volumes it sounds frickin huge combined like that. Also have the golden verb on my board- best verb pedal in the world.

    I have an Iridium, I only use one setting and all the rest of it I never use so, I see how the UA would be the better fit for me as I don't need all of the options of the Iridium. Based on what I've heard... the Dream sounds a lot better than the Iridium plus the addition of Boost, Reverb and Tremolo on the Dream eliminates the need for extra pedals (as I use a Boost, Reverb and Tremolo pedals with the Iridium). Nice demo guys!

    So I bought Dream and first thoughts was niiice. Tried using some presets with my pedalboard and then it sounded awfull digital and fizzy. Really bad. Dialed in the amp myself and then niiice again. Took it to rehearsal, plugged into pa. Sounded meh… dont know if im doing anything wrong, but to me its not just all a dream. Gotta do some more testing though. My current setup is a Two rock and a Marshall together and it sounds killer, was planning on buying the Ruby allso, to use as back up in a similar setup, but gonna wait to see if i get more satisfied. Sticking with my helix stomp as a backup for now.

      The Victory V4 amps aren't really copies of other amps - they're more like Martin Kidds hot rodded version of classic amps... plus they have the amp built in, so its not really the same thing. Irridium, ACS1 etc are the more similar products. Not a million miles apart though, so maybe someone will do a comparison.

      I played guitar at the selection of Brian May and Roger Taylor to play half of Brian’s parts in We Will Rock You America, at the Paris theater in Las Vegas 2004/2005, so I have a great familiarity with the sounds of AC30’s and treble booster Brian used.
      However,
      I can’t pull the trigger until i know 2 things..
      1) On the Modern May setting (or one you’d create close to it) does it give you the glassy clean volume rollback ala Under Pressure?
      2) I really need to see how well they take our favorite pedals (fuzz or alternate Germainium treble boosters would be a great test imho) and I’m REALLY looking forward to see how these work under those conditions.
      I likely won’t pull out my card until I know.

    Well I was gonna get a pod go because I thought cheap compared to other multi fx pedals but having watched this Im thinking it has all the tones I like and its cheaper. This eliminates the option paralysis (as was mentioned in the video) I know its not directly comparable but its a great shout and its premium kit as I think a lot of home guitarists really only ever want two or three tones. Im lucky enough to have a wee mixer at home though. Also think it will sit really nice in front of my Marshal Origin 20W an otherwise fairly boring amplifier that no one wanted to buy off me (understandable).

    Made me laugh a bit at 13 mins you found “Lincoln Brewster” and both seemed confused. I LOVE Real Bon jovi, I was 7yrs old at the Wembley gig that was recorded and in my little head decoded I’m gonna play guitar with it lessons (what an idiot I should have had the lessons!) well anyways, like a year ago I took the last Lincoln Brewster strat out of your shop… 1 it was good which gave me “I’ll be the for you at Maddison square gardens vibes” 2, the whole guitar was realistically made off of the 50’s but they put locking tuners that were based off of the old school tuners so the y look the same (nice touch) the neck was made in the custom shop, they had to make it in the custom shop because he said it won’t be the same if it’s not right. It’s also a singing ash body with a gorgeous flamed maple neck which unplugged sounds LOUD but pull the volume and boom a 20db boost straight up the bot bot which is the same as Richie’s button. Second best laying guitar I have ever had and I shouted it out as something to try but yI’m u didn’t do it and now it’s not made… shame I think the captain would have enjoyed it ALOT

    I will never understand ppl who complain about these pedals not having a headphone out. Unless you want to put your delay and reverb in front of your amp, which tends to sound like crap unless you're going for a very specific tone- then you don't need a headphone out on these pedals. You're going to have a reverb and delay after them, if you had a headphone out on them, you wouldn't hear your reverb or delay. Now if you want to get your drive from pedals and not the amp- then you can put the reverb and delay in front of the amp but after your drives, and it's o.k. But I like to use the drive on my amp- even if I use a dirt pedal, I'm running it over a dirty amp- so I don't want a delay in front of it. In fact, I use most of my drives simply to shape the tone of my guitar before it hits my amp, the gain is turned way down- the gain in my finished tone is coming from my amp mostly.

    For recording these seem like a great solution to get some amp tones you don't have, but I think once you go down this rabbit hole you are better off with a Kemper/Helix/Cortex.

    • @m0j0b0ne
      @m0j0b0ne 2 роки тому

      One would think that, but UA puts an awful lot of processing power into doing just a few things really, really well. The Woodrow started life as a plugin for UA's lauded interfaces, and the degree of accuracy maybe isn't loads better than a Kemper or Helix, but it's definitely better; possibly owing to UA's vast investment in SHARC chips and that they're NOT using either static or dynamic IRs. The speaker(s) is 80% of the sound and UA has really nailed a few speakers and cabs with this new line. Also, these are $400; you can't get a POD Go for that. I've gone the Helix route (very nice, if one needs an instant, infinitely variable array of amps and effects, under MIDI control) and I end up using four amp sounds, but boiled down, they're variations on a theme. I could do as well with a few pedals and one of these, and possibly end up with a more satisfying experience. I could buy all three for less than the Helix.
