  • Did you hear the rumours that there is a lighthouse in Aomori Japan that has Wild Horses roaming around? Believe it! Search for Shiriyazki Lighthouse which is the northeast most point of Honshu Aomori Prefecture. If you drive from Misawa it's just two hours. I would recommend bringing 20 or more carrots with you. I had nine and they were gone very quickly. This does depend on how much attention you want to receive. LOL, These are wild horses and your pretty much alone out here besides the nice Japanese lady that maintains the lighthouse. The lighthouse was built in October 1876. In 1945 during World War 2 the US nearly destroyed it from bombs dropped in the area. In 1951 it was repaired and is now registered by the Japanese Government as an A-grade lighthouse and maintained by the Japanese Coast Guard. It is one of the top 50 lighthouses in Japan and is a local symbol.
