George Harrison is on the slide guitar in the first solo and then that is classic Alvin Lee on the rest of it, but it was fascinating to me as a huge Ten Years After fan, because Alvin often doesn't play with that guitar tone and effect and the pinch harmonics, and yet here he is presaging all kinds of things to come, including the famous Comfortably Numb solo, and in a way Eddie Van Halen there near the end. He was so gifted it's mind-blowing and I loved his voice on this as well like I always do. You guys have GOT to listen to some Ten Years After; it's one of the greatest bands from that era.
cant agree more....alvin and tenyears after were my favorite also....and pretty much anything with alvin playing that otherworldly guitar frank w. us army ret and honourary marine
Alvin Lee singing--one of the great guitar players in the Btritish blues/rock scene. His "I'm Going Home" performance at Woodstock is legendary. First guitar solo was Harrison (he had a very distinctive sound), the closing solo (the one you asked about) was Alvin Lee
And your/our musical education continues with George stretching out from his cute little Beatles riffs to some serious blues and soulful slide guitar licks with his British neighbor, one of the masters, Alvin Lee.
It's hard to wrap my head around all the great musicians and their music in the 60s and 70s. Never again will there be back to back decades of talent and instrumental messaging that we experienced in that time. The rabbit holes are many, my brothers.
Great tune/reaction. Two legends. I was standing 25 feet in front of Alvin Lee -"Ten Years After" at Woodstock 30th Anniversary and they did.... "Id Love To Change The World" and "I'm Going Home'.... BLEW away the sky and everyone there.
That level of skill doesn't, all come from just thousands of hours of practice but also from the soul, that guitar is crying, screaming, sadness and pain. Alvin Lee, gone but never forgotten, RIP!
R I P Alvin Lee. Great guitarist, singer, and songwriter! Alvin's solo at the end is beautiful! Check out Alvin with Ten Years After song "I'd love to change the world"
This is a heartbreaker for sure. That's what I feel when I listen to it. Like tears rolling down and heart torn apart sad. I've had this on my Playlist since I discovered it a couple yrs back--BUT DID NOT KNOW George Harrison played on it too🤯?!! It's the kind of Blues I can get lost in, just sail away on those guitars. THANKS for educating me that GH was playing on this too. I'm shocked. How did I miss that gem of knowledge???!! See... one is Truely never too old to learn. In fact, that's how I felt when I discovered this song. I've loved Alvin & 10yrs After since Woodstock (movie) came out. We were so young then. I live in the Midwest & back then, took about 6mos for us to catch up w/what was happening on either coasts. After seeing Woodstock, the WHOLE CULTURE changed!! Then, 50yrs later I found this song. Another culture shock-never knew Alvin played other songs besides hard core Rock & Roll! Terrific discovery that keeps on giving. Hey...getn older ain't so bad when my Spirit feels SO NEW, again. THANK YOU, SINCERELY💙💯
First solo is played by George, the second one by Alvin Lee! Lee later said that he felt challenged by George's solo and that it really pushed his own playing! Definitely a remarkable song!
It's an Alvin Lee album that George guested on....also it is done in a minor key, so that blues feeling you are used to hearing will sound a little off...also has the same feel as the way Roy Gallagher plays...
You guys once again digging up the deep tracks, this is some awesome sh*t indeed. Brilliant choice, awesome reaction as always, no other reactors out there feel and appreciate the music like you guys. Much love from the north!
The beauty of that Blues song is the emotionally melodic music they blended with the blues line. Such great playing by Alvin Lee. That’s a great song, great choice, great reaction. Loved it, haven’t heard that in a long time!
Alvin Lee has his unique sound on guitar cannot be mistaken for George Harrison EVER who also has his unique sould which you heatd on first solo in slide guitar 10:12 . If you're going to review the greats you've got to know their sound when listening
Apparently, Alvin and George knew each other and had played together in their local area. Alvin lived not too far from George, but was still rather in awe of him. He thought the song needed something and he got up his nerve and called George who said, “sure, I’ll be right over“ or something to that effect. Apparently, George was pretty free and easy. Brilliance!
Thanks again guys... It continues to amaze me ,that after intensive listening to all genres for well over a half century, you can be introduced to a great musical collaboration that you have not heard..There's always a new sound for you to soak up. Loved it....
If you really want to hear the blues from Alvin, please consider listening to "Slow Blues In 'C'" from the Ten Years After - Recorded Live album. It has two lead guitar solos and one keyboard solo that are pretty damned good with the impeccable Leo Lyons on bass (his playing is worth the listen by itself). The second guitar solo is right after the keyboard and can knock you back in your seat. The whole album set is ,IMO, one of the best live albums I have ever heard. Very good if you like the Blues/Rock genre.
The second guitar solo was Alvin Lee....You need to do some of his real blues work like Slow Blues in "C" or Help Me from Ten Years After Live in Europe from 1973...Alvin had a knack for syncopating the blues with Jazz phrasing too....A genius, and his bassist, Leo Lyons was an incredible bassist...
That was a tremendous song. A great first listen for me too. Alvin and George. Two legends and a really great song. Thanks for this deep cut and also to whoever suggested it.
You guys are great, and you have a fantastic community here. I had never heard this song, and I'm way older than it is. If you listen to a complete album, George's All Things Must Pass is the best solo Beatle album.
I'm an old dude too.I don't believe I've heard this collaboration either. Isn't it amazing that after listening intently to all genres for well over a half decade that you can still be introduced to excellence?
George played slide in beginning, Alvin did all the heavy guitar, believe me me Gerge could of did it all he was the guest sent Alvin the tape for beginning slide,Alvin loved it,A Beatle onyour album just takes it to higher level!
wow, just wow. you two, through your interpretation, bring those two back to life. thank you for helping me understand, better, the music of my time. i have been watching and listening to music reactions for the last two years. you two, by far, help me to understand and feel music like i never have before. wow, just wow. thank you!
Alvin Lee was one of the greatest guitar players in Rock and Roll History. Check out one of his songs called "I'd Love To Change the World" (1971) for more one this legend named Alvin Lee and his band Ten Years After. BTW: Speaking of crying guitar solos, also check out "Lines On My Face" by Peter Frampton from his "Frampton Comes Alive" (1976), and enjoy.
Also watch the movie they made of the 2002 "Concert For George", where Eric Clapton, McCartney, Ringo, and a large number of Harrison's friends took turns and combined to play Harrison's music. Some of it is on UA-cam. The extras on the DVD are great. Plus there is the 2011 Martin Scorsese movie "Living In The Material World". After The Beatles, Harrison developed a recognizable style on slide guitar, as shown in the first solo.
This song makes you feel so much, everything just slows down. Between Alvin Lee's vocals and lyrics and the guitar crying, it pretty much says it all. Check out Alvin Lee with the group Ten Years After and the song "I'd Love to Change the World". Thanks so much guys!🧡
Love Lee & Peter Green as well! And I’m a big Foghat, they’re one of my favorites l. Another band I love that some don’t but I do and it’s Blue Oyster Cult, Buck Dharma is one of my favorite players as well. Just love the solos he always crafted. Somebody else replied about Robin Tower, definitely an all time favorite for me as well!
Hey guys George plays the slide guitar I believe it's the first solo alvanley does the second solo amazing can't believe I waited so long to hear it again
Yes this is absolutely the blues. The genre has a lot of styles, y’all heard “Hats Off To Roy Harper” and “Since I’ve Been Loving You” off Led Zeppelin III. Totally different styles but both The Blues.
Yes! More Alvin Lee and George for the Cherry on Top, great collaboration. For some more wonderful Blues from a master of that musical genre, try Ten Years After and Help Me, live that song took on a life of its own. Enjoy! 🎵🎸🎤🎹🎶
Great reaction guys and thank you so much. I haven't seen many reactions to this wonderful guitarist or the band Ten Years After, so again thank you. There is a lot of good material from TYA and Alvin Lee solo.
AWESOME reaction guys! Alvin Lee was a member of Ten Years After for many years and he is still my favorite lead guitar player. Sadly he has passed on. Glad that you 2 men really enjoyed this song.
All Things Must Pass Album is a masterpiece John Lennon took a hard shot at Paul McCartney on his song How Can You Sleep and George Harrison played guitar on it there is live version of them you should listen to of them recording it in the studio John wrote the song right after Paul took a shot at him in one of his songs l can’t remember the McCartney song where he took a shot at John
you cant get more bluer then this, his guitar was crying! Alvin lee could hold his own with anyone and beat most. RIP.
Thanks, I was curious as to who was playing each guitar part.
I was lucky enough to see Ten Years After 1970 at Goose Lake Rock Festival 1970 ✌️☮️
I was also blessed to see Ten Years after several times. Still my favorite band! @@juniorjohnson5961

That was my thought as well. George slides to the next note more and Alvin uses bends and more pull offs.
These guys need 130k subscribers not 13k! Always look forward to their reviews - well informed, and educated. One of the best review team out there.
Thank you so much. We’re trying to get there!!
It's up to the whims of toobe, if they put eyes on it. Hit likes through out.
Absolutely
Alvin played lead George was the slide and rhythm
Alvin Lee, another great guitarist. The guitar is crying.
Wow just wow!!!!
Alvin lee one of the guitar greats!
And your/our musical education continues with George stretching out from his cute little Beatles riffs to some serious blues and soulful slide guitar licks with his British neighbor, one of the masters, Alvin Lee.

One of my favorites!

really ...wow....I was about a hundred feet away and really strung out!!! lol
@@anthonyblakely399 I had plenty of Mother Nature's Finest. Feelin great waving at Alvin and he smiled back
Alvin Lee on the 2nd Solo. Great Blues guitarist!
That level of skill doesn't, all come from just thousands of hours of practice but also from the soul, that guitar is crying, screaming, sadness and pain. Alvin Lee, gone but never forgotten, RIP!
Enjoy you two so much. Look forward to your takes on old music!
Slide work earlier in the song is George Harrison. The heavier lead at the end is Alvin "The Man Who Played Faster Than His Shadow" Lee.
R I P Alvin Lee. Great guitarist, singer, and songwriter! Alvin's solo at the end is beautiful! Check out Alvin with Ten Years After song "I'd love to change the world"
George played the first solo - slide guitar. His sound on slide was unmistakably him.
George plays the first slide lead. The shredding is Alvin Lee.
George Harrison: Beware of Darkness, All Things Must Pass. 2 great songs.
George plays the first solo in this song and Alvin lee sings and does the second solo
Alvin 👍👍👍👍👍

Alvin Lee and Ten Years After doing Help Me (baby) live is a must.
Alvin lee playing I Want You (she's so heavy) Beatles's cover is killer
Feat. George Harrison ❤️🤘🇮🇹

You can feel every note played so soulfully. Thanks for a great reaction guys.
George Was first solo on slide Alvin was long solo at the end
The beauty of that Blues song is the emotionally melodic music they blended with the blues line. Such great playing by Alvin Lee. That’s a great song, great choice, great reaction. Loved it, haven’t heard that in a long time!

you have to get to Johnny Winter and Edgar Winter Tobacco Road Live video they will blow you away thanks and that's Alvin Lee playing that solo
Once George fell in love with that slide tube, he never put it down.
I'm surprised you guys haven't done "bridge of sighs" by Robin Trower, or anything from "John Mayall and the Bluesbreakers".
Nice I been thinking the same thing...also, "too rolling stones"
George's trademark slide guitar is a killer! Alvin Lee is also a top tier guitarist.
Thanks guys, brought back some wonderful times.
this is the British Blues from the school of John Mayal (RIP 2024) the first solo is George the second is Mr Barnes

If Music be the food of love-Play on......William Shakespeare....1602.
Very British blues. Doesn't have the soul we like in our blues but they like it. Still a beautiful song..

The answer is that it was Alvin Lee, front man, guitar player extraordinaire of Ten Years After.
Two of my favorite artists. Both gone way too soon. Glad you chose this, sad, but lifting at the same time. Thanks. U 2 R very knowledgeable and hip😂
Great song!!! Gret rections as usual!!! It is blues and Folk music mixed together, but it is Blues!!!!
That is the late great Alvin Lee playing out. Yes it is the blues. Not every blues is 12 bar. This is definitely blues'

My turn. Who knew George could shred like that? 😊
That main solo was Alvin Lee. He was the first one to open me up to the blues back in the 70s. Such a soulful guitarist and one of my favorites.
Wow! I’m a huge GH fan and I’ve never heard this! Absolutely fantastic!
When asked if that was George soloing it was not, that was Alvin, George played the first solo.
now that's a tune!

Blues is any way of expressing ‘a good man feeling blue…’
Awesome reaction.
Thank you Gentlemen. Never heard this gem before. I will hear it many times in the future. So enjoyed the discovery with you.
Alvin is the second solo one of the greatest underated players. As much as I love George he never played a solo like that.
I don't think I've ever heard this; WOW!! So good!!!

Both solos were great, but George stole the show for me on this one.

One of the greats GARY MOORE also does a fantastic version of this....his playing is incredible also.
So tickled to see you do this magnificent song by two great artists. This is one of my go to songs. It never gets old.
AWESOME reaction guys! Alvin Lee was a member of Ten Years After for many years and he is still my favorite lead guitar player. Sadly he has passed on. Glad that you 2 men really enjoyed this song.
Oh yeah, now you're talkingn'
George Harrison's: ' My Sweet Lord.'
Two guys from Nottingham and Liverpool doing the blues.❤
That was certainly Alvin Lee on that last solo.
Never even knew of this
You must listen to Richie Havens sing Freedom at Woodstock (if you haven't already) - it's another amazing performance!
