Sweet video and thanks for the idea for the removable Dipsey. I took your idea and changed it up just slightly. I added 40 feet of 25 lb test green mono as my leader and then tied it to my braid with a double-uni knot. On the braid side, I tied a loop knot with a small bead in the loop about a foot above the mono (the bead just holds the loop open). On the forward side of the dipsey, I attach a small S-clip carabiner, which goes in the loop knot. It can't slip, so it makes releasing the Dipsey easy, and no wraps needed when attaching it. I use the same red OR-16 clip on the back side of the Dipsey, but I attach it to the braid and slide it down to the doube-uni so it can't slide any further. It works great! Super easy on and off. No wraps needed, etc. Caught walleyes, kings, steelies, etc with no issues yet.
For anyone wanting to order the red clips for their dipsys here is some free money for aliexpress. Enjoy C$ 6.00 off! From FoxFishing4K a.aliexpress.com/_mtavWDS
One thing to keep in mind using the OR16 clip method is that occasionally on a hard rip, a wrap or two can pop off causing the clip to slide. The way to beat this is to do 3-4 wraps on each clip (I prefer 3 wraps as 4 can be a bit challenging to draw tight at times). There's typically enough grip at that point to prevent slide with 3-4. Don't mean to step on your vid, just thought I'd offer the tip to those wanting to learn this method. Definitely prefer it over short leads, the carabiner method, or the S-clip method.
You are correct. I usually wrap 3-4 on the front clip and 2 on the back clip to prevent sliding and freying. Also always wrap the side with the tooth otherwise it WILL fall off lol.
I've not fishing salmon as don't have the equipment but if I do I'm circling back to this channel. You guys do a great job showing and explaining. Oh ya and catching some monsters!
Great video!! This is why i watch youtube to get excellent info like you give out. Thanks for the info. Awsome Dipsey hack. i changed mine immediatly. Thanks again
I’ve deployed dipseys like that for over 5 years; it really increases catch rates with King Salmon. We let the bait back at least 50 ft before attaching the diver. One difference, we deploy a 10” snubber on the trailing end of the dipsey.
We stopped using snubbers about 3 years ago. We normally use Mono for the leader due to the stretch. Fluorocarbon looses half it's strength once stretched.
Great video, solid boat. I began rigger fishing not that long ago. I often see fish come and follow the weights but would not take a spoon or a fly. My most productive spoon so far is NBK, I troll at 2-3mph with spin doctor or a SS dodger. Would appreciate if you share what can be done to entice fish to bite on a day like that? Thank you.
Shorten leads. Depending on size of spoon slow down or speed up. Also every 5 min turn boat left and right. See which side takes the hit. Inside slow down. Outside speed up. NBK is an amazing spoon. If Stinger size don't go over 2.7mph as it will blow out
Works amazing a gbay buddy. Been doing it for a few years. Finally letting some of the secrets out of the bag. Last year we had so many comments with people asking how we were removing are dipsy on vids. Finally said eff it let's show everything. 😀

Kevin we will be up there launching/staying at northwest basin marina any tips on location to try our luck. Also heard that the south end of christian island was good is it still and is there a ramp near there.(I put this in the wrong spot originally)
Do you find that this changes the diving ratio at all on your divers? I've been running this for a year now and just noticed that my line out is close to a 1:1 ratio on my high divers on a 2.5 setting. I'm basing that off of seeing them go down on my graph. Kinda puzzling
I would think it would affect the diver some. Likely more line and drag from the back of the diver? Very possible. That's something I have never thought about. Good observation.
Awesome video my man. Really like the snaps method. Will have to try it this weekend. How does it work on copper lines. Have you tried it or will it unclip being its not wrapped ?
Are the clips you use - simply weight clips for your line? Could you explain the "tooth" and what I should look for if they are a different version - I would like to try this method as I fish solo and this method seems far easier to land fish alone. Thank you for sharing.

Hey, great show you guys have . You got a new subscriber . I like your dipsy set up , I have some questions. Are you running braid on your dipsy rods, and if so, do you have problems with the sea fleas? Thanks love your show
Hi, I've heard several places that the baitfish are small in the spring, thus running smaller spoons makes sense. It came to me though, that in the spring the only bait fish around are those that survived at least from the spawn before. Wouldn't that mean that the bait fish would be bigger since there is no newly spawned bait fish? Thanks
Great video! One detail I am wondering about (sorry if I missed it in the vid), do you clip into the Dipsys on the braid or using the fluoro leader. Just trying to figure out if the wrap method will fray the braid? Thanks!
We clip in above the fluorocarbon onto the braid. This way when popping dipsy its only braid between angler and dipsy and no stretch. We found wrapping 2-3 times prevents slipping and we have never seen any fraying.
Couple questions for you guys!!! How much fluorocarbon line do you attach to your mono downriggers? How do you attach the mono to fluorocarbon line? Uni knot? How fast miles per hour are you traveling over ground? I am marking a ton of salmon but they're not biting, any tips to make them bite? What is the scent that you use for salmon on the spoons? Now that it's August are you still running spoons in Georgian Bay or what else should I run? If you want to get out in Collingwood for salmon fishing hit me up I'd love to take you!
1.) I use REDOLENCE SCENT. Best scent I have ever used. Niagara fish assasins tested it on a boat and that line caught 80% of there fish. 2.) We run 50-75 feet of fluorocarbon leads to our mainline. 3.) If I have time at home I will tie an FG knot as it's the smallest knot and it goes through the guides easiest. If I am on the bait uni to uni or blood knots are what I use. 4.) We like are spoons between 2.1-2.7 mph. Best action and speed for running several different size spoons. Your light flutters won't blow out on you. Up around 3mph you must run larger spoons for proper action as they can handle the speed. I will be doing a bunch more videos on this stuff in detail as I am getting a lot of questions like this. Thanks for the comment!! Much appreciated. In future if you want anything answered just ask :)

Dipsy trick has been done for quite sometime on Lake Ontario - even with guys running wire - wire to 30/50 foot section of 80-100lb braid then floro leader - clip dipsy to braid
Never seen anyone do it before. That's cool if others have done it or figured it out too. We have done this for years and this is the first time we have released it. I'm sure a lot of people will do this trick now.
Definitely not a new trick, guys were using this years ago. Lots of online discussions about this to replace slide divers as well. Only know a couple guys that like this style. Most will take a good old 8ft leader any day over wrapped braid on clips with a big king on the line.
@@plattinumfishing Everyone has there own style. We use this method to change the action of the spoon. It gives a similar action to copper or Weighted steel without 400-500 feet of line out. Also extremely handy fighting a fish with just you, light gear and a spoon. No dipsy or extra weight on the line like a slide diver. We showed a few Lake O guys over the last few years and a bunch have switched over to this method. Some probably were doing this already on there own too. We get all kinds of different clips. Some left fin, some adipose, some double clipped. Depending on the clip type relates to the year fish was stocked. You can look up how old a fish is by the type of fin clips.
@@FoxFishing4K very cool, thanks. I always seem to get the ones near Christian island with the left clipped. Ill be on the lookout for other clips now.

I determine how far to let it out based on the size of dipsy, and setting for the depth of the fish. If I see fish at 65 feet down I let out 180 feet at 3 setting to get to thst depth. If fish are at 50 feet I would let out maybe 145 feet on 3 setting. Your diver will come with a guide.

Next video I will show my spoon box and do a full gear review. I will show how I modify spoons and also my top 10 spoons! Thanks for the wonderful comment. As for Collingwood switch between flutter sppons, flasher/fly and plugs/lymans./ Collingwood the fish can only be biting on one presentation for the day. You have a lot of sand over there as well with very little structure. We have done extremely well on the small humps and transitions on those flats in 90-130 fow. For better numbers though when you come out of Collingwood the farther you head north towards Thornbury the better it is. Just watch out for that East wind! That area has very clear water so I suggest running long leads.
@@FoxFishing4K next video on tackle and modifications sounds so good, I’ll really benefit from that and I’m sure many others will too, make sure you provide links :)! I’m sure you have the monkey grease (orange/black) and the hammered copper spoon, that’s my go-to right now last couple of weeks. 👌 I usually head straight out of Collingwood and park outside of the Pretty River 90-110 dow .. Lakers and a few Chinooks.. will head north towards Thornbury next! Appreciate the tip. Yeah I constantly look at that wind erg.. Keep the vids coming 🤙
I like the clip idea. I will do this before trying weighted steel. How do you decide to run a 25 foot lead or 100 foot lead on the mono. If you run a 25 foot lead do you clip to the mono then or shorten the mono lead? Have you run the two clips on a 00 dodger or 8 inch flasher flie combos? We run a lot of those set ups on Lake Michigan. thx
When I run dipsys I also run a long lead. Never clip to mono. The mono in front of the dipsy will stretch when you try and pop the dipsy and will make it difficult to release.
@@tracymuench1298 I haven't to be honest. Georgian Bay in my area is mainly a spoon bite so that's all we primarily use. If I go to Lake Ontario I will have to try it out.
Kevin I will be up there on this wednesday for a week of fishing what type of bait are you using (is it a spoon bite?), just to let you know I have used your clip with 3 wraps on the main(dipsy) and I do not attach the back end, it works try it. You do not need to attach the back side of the dipsy. It releases and brings it down to depth just great.
Awesome Don! Right now it is a spoon bite but I will be switching away from spoons and running plugs soon. I will have to try your method. If I don't have to wrap the back that would be awesome. Thanks for the tip!
@@FoxFishing4K It is amazing how good the clips work and using only the main . Game changer . Thx for the info is off the island a good place to start.
Kevin we will be up there launching/staying at northwest basin marina any tips on location to try our luck. Also heard that the south end of christian island was good is it still and is there a ramp near there.
@@donpidhoresky1396 AC marina I think has a ramp. Jackson's beach also has a ramp but very shallow. Really good fishing between the mainland and Christian island in 90-140 fow. Fish the outside of the long fingerling south point of land extending off Christian island. Troll south towards wasaga. Evening or early morning low light will produce 80% of your bites.
We run long leads. When the fish hits it puts slack in the line. You have to get to the rod quick to bring up the slack. If your not paying attention it affects hook up ratios. We also use siwash hooks. The salmons face is all bone and if you get a good hook set you won't loose the fish from tearing out. As long as the line doesn't break your good. It's all about tension keeping these fish on the line.
No wonder u keep missing the rigger bites leave the rod in the holder until u wind down the slack and never and I mean never do the bass hook set.thats not a herring it's a white fish.
It is 100% a herring. Look at the mouth. The hook set isn't to hook the fish it is to bring up slack. We run extremely long leads to get more bites. The problem with longer leads is more slack generated. I would rather get 3 bites and miss one then get 1 bite. It's the trade off we take. These guys are newer at downrigging too. The one guy was his first time. They both did extremely well for the amount of times they have been out.
We used to reel down our rods while in the holder before. With the long leads the same thing happened. We may try different releases where we can load the rod more and have it like a hairline trigger. Hoping that helps. The other thing is all our spoons run siwash hooks. We loose more fish on the initial bite but when it benefits is the BIG kings after a 10-20 minute fight they don't get off. Lots of small details we do to get 20-40 fish days which are coming in the next 2-3 weeks.
Hey NICK just wanted to let you know I have been telling people to just reel down the rod first whonare new in the boat. It has helped a lot with new fishermen. Thanks for the comment and suggestion. Much appreciated.
@@mattsmith2789 Michigan has an amazing fishery. Copper works I just don't want to reel all that line in. Tournaments are about 1 thing. The more time fishing the more time you have to catch fish. Every minute tangled, fighting a fish, reseting your loosing a line in the water. If I can use techniques that take 3 minutes to land a fish rather then 15 minutes and have the same bite percentage I would be silly choosing the other method. Our dipsys we get the same action with half the line and we get more bites period! You have fun reeling in all your copper though. If that's what you like doing nothing wrong with that. But if you catch 7 salmon and I catch 14. I have amuch better chance to catch a BIG ONE!

@@braedanmccomb6856 the biggest lakers are the naturals and are usually 9lbs +. They don't habe any clips at all.
You mentioned Aliexpress… I’ve been tempted several times but never ordered from there… it’s reasonable? Any other hot items from them?
Excellent video by the way, very informative no BS and slaying the fish. I’ll def be using snaps for my divers, especially for boat shy rainbows!

Have you ever lost a diver using that method? How do you determine how far to let it out?
Never lost a diver. I let out how much lead I want 20, 50, 75 or 100 feet. Then attach dipsy and reset the counter on the reel and let it out.
Love all the info in this video. From the quick setup to landing fish to showing them on the sonar, really nice! Great video quality and music too.
It would be awesome to see all your tackle setup in the description with links so you guys can get a kickback on the purchases.
Lastly, I go out of Collingwood mainly, any hot spots you recommend?
Thanks guys!! This video makes me want to go out and fish right now lol.
I usually head straight out of Collingwood and park outside of the Pretty River 90-110 dow .. Lakers and a few Chinooks.. will head north towards Thornbury next! Appreciate the tip. Yeah I constantly look at that wind erg..
Keep the vids coming 🤙
Here is a tip you guys might consider. Landing fish, especially when using sliders, it would be a good idea to protect yourself by wearing glasses.
What kind of line and lb test do u run for your dipsy rod??
I run 50-60lb Power Pro braid on the dipsy rods. I then run 20lb fluorcarbon leader. I connect the dipsy to the braided portion of the line.
@@FoxFishing4K I went out and grabbed those red clips, im gunna try running the dipsy this way. And I think i have 30 lb braid on my dipsy rod
Oh and i have the 20lb fluorocarbon leader
What boat is that
200 Pro V HT ET Hewes Craft
I like the clip idea. I will do this before trying weighted steel. How do you decide to run a 25 foot lead or 100 foot lead on the mono. If you run a 25 foot lead do you clip to the mono then or shorten the mono lead? Have you run the two clips on a 00 dodger or 8 inch flasher flie combos? We run a lot of those set ups on Lake Michigan. thx
When I run dipsys I also run a long lead. Never clip to mono. The mono in front of the dipsy will stretch when you try and pop the dipsy and will make it difficult to release.
@@FoxFishing4K Thx Have you run dodger and flie combos with this set up? Has it worked??
@@tracymuench1298 I haven't to be honest. Georgian Bay in my area is mainly a spoon bite so that's all we primarily use. If I go to Lake Ontario I will have to try it out.
@@FoxFishing4K Thx for the quick responses. Have fun fishing...........

Waoooo. I. Want to now more about fishing

Evening or early morning low light will produce 80% of your bites.
lol caught 25-30 out of 250’ of water in bc last summer definitely takes less then 15 minutes to reel in a 23lb fish.
How fast do you troll ?
2.1-1.7 mph range that i never go out of. Ideally though 2.3-2.5.

Wow how many fish did he loose ??
We run long leads. When the fish hits it puts slack in the line. You have to get to the rod quick to bring up the slack. If your not paying attention it affects hook up ratios. We also use siwash hooks. The salmons face is all bone and if you get a good hook set you won't loose the fish from tearing out. As long as the line doesn't break your good. It's all about tension keeping these fish on the line.
Think guy might be ripping hook out with that Bass setting of hook
Salmons face is all bone. No way your ripping that hook out. The 20lb test line would snap first.
I see its a Hewes, but what model/size. Very nice. Its been hot in holland for a week now. Nice work
I have. 200 Pro V HT ET
I do it exactly the same way
Awesome!!
Spanked 'em.
Yah buddy! August the bite really turns on!!
Why are you guys pulling the hook out of the fish’s mouth??? It’s not bass masters.
Gotta let that fish eat it before you yank the thing out of its mouth.
Imagine ripping something that catches fish. I’ll take copper over riggers and braid divers any day of the week..
Lets go head to head. I will catch and land 2 fish by the time you even reel your copper to the boat! ;)
I’ll reel in any line with a King on it cause Im not a ______ . Also come to Lake Michigan and try your rigger only technique you’ll get smoked..
What dreadful music. Couldn’t carry on. Macho much?
Sorry brother. It's not for everyone.
