Great to see John Ford, Blue Weaver and Brian Willoughby at the last gig, but I'm really sad that Dave Lambert and Chas Cronk weren't there. They've been such a huge part of the band for so long.
One of the most memorable 'concerts' I ever went to (and I did the see the Strawbs several times) was Dave Cousins and Brian Willoughby doing an acoustic tour of 'Old School Songs'. Intimate, small setting - chance to speak to the guys etc. Memorable.
Thank you! One of my all-time favourite songs. I was gutted to miss them, especially the swansong performance, so it's good to be able to see and hear it here. Cheers!
Took me right back to the mid 70s, Kent University, Canterbury - possibly my first gig (although that might have been The Groundhogs, or Jon Hiseman's Tempest - simply can't remember). Grave New World the album of my teens. A true privilege to be there for their last performance, I got a little bit teary. Go well Dave.
Great song by a great band met them all several times always happy to stop and chat and Dave Cousins remains one of tge best English songwriters. May you have a long and happy retirement Dave if this really was your last concert with the / your band
Thanks for posting as was unable to get to Crop' but good to see Dave and the boys. First came across them Strawbs when father gave me a cassette in the mid 70's ("dont know what this is like but someone at work thought you might like it") then got to see of Cous' And Brian at Folk gigs in mid 80's and full band in 90's ❤😊
Memories of Newcastle City Hall on the 24th February 1972 during the power cuts. The concert was delayed and Dave and Jonathan Kelly (support act) entertained the waiting crowd on their guitars. The Man who called himself Jesus being prominent. Good luck Dave and thanks.
TOTP Oct 72 they had to mime to a backing track, as nearly everyone did. To this day I still think the two Daves plugged their guitars into each other to make it look authentic.
@@colincarroll7954 John Ford was there. The lady is Kathryn Craig, wife or partner of Brian Willoughby who was also on stage. Full information on strawbsweb
Richard Hudson wasn't there but John Ford is at the front playing the Black acoustic guitar. The lady is Cathryn Craig, Brian Willoughby's partner. Brian is on the extreme left, playing an electric guitar.
Cathryn Craig who sang with The Righteous Brothers and in Nashville for years, she is now in one of the best duo's in the folk scene with Bryan Willoughby who is on the other side of the stage .Thanks for such a great time and best wishes to Dave Cousins for the future.Keep on rocking Dave!
I grew up with them. Fantastic band especially Dave C.
Dave still got it , wish them the best , fantastic band .
Great way too draw a line under the band , on a high .
Watched now for numerous times ! Very good to see them go out on a high.

A fave from my 20s (around 1974).

They played at Canterbury university circa October 1972. My girlfriend and I saw them one Saturday evening. A very memorable evening.
@@peternewman3487 GNW was released in Feb 1972, so that would make sense. Beer at 16p a pint. Aaaah, those were the days.
Grave New World still love that album, dug out my vinyl copy and been playing it again, something on the news reminded me of words on that album
Strawbs forever.
A WONDERFUL CLASSIC , thankyou for this share with the world !
best wishes from france . ritchie .
Still play this on my play list brilliantly

I remember that gig. That my 2nd Strawbs concert. Lost count of the number of times I saw them after that.
John Ford! Very cool!
From infinitly better times!

John Ford's wig is quite something
Not impossible to have a good head of hair at 75!!
@@classicmusichonest sure but that isn't it...
no it's not, but that is not a good head of real hair! @@classicmusichonest
He's ageless...😊
Where was Dave Lambert? And Chas Cronk ? Was this the band s last concert ever ? Is Dave Cousins still not well ?
Couldn't see Hudson or Ford and who was the female?

Where was Dave Lambert?
Good question
Indeed where was he, along with Chas Cronk. Dave opted for some of his South African musicians instead.
I think all current and past members were invited, but for som reason they could not come I guess
@@classicmusichonest
. Who were the South African musicians ? Roy b, CapeTown south africa 🇿🇦
@@classicmusichonest Absolutely. Dave Cousins has done his own thing by going off to South Africa with his lady friend (quote)...say no more.
Where Dave lambert
Not there, neither was Chaz Cronk.

Thanks for the info. Have just put Bryan Willoughby and Cathryn Craig into UA-cam search and wow. What a find. Beautiful music.

Sorry no idea. Tried finding out to no avail. Anyone else know please?
The lady in the blue dress? Completely inaudible - drowned out by the foghorn that is Dave Cousins.
Next band please
Not the strawbs sorry.
