This is the first time I've heard this performance. As she started that controlled crescendo on the first syllable, I had to shut my eyes, and started to cry. Her voice reached me from beyond, consoling me; I have experienced such grief for the past 12 years. It has been very hard for me to go on; It may be a delusion, but I think Ms. Popp ( o.b.m.) was a messenger. May she rest in peace and may her soul be with G-d.

I lived in Germany 50 years ago where was a student. Lucia was a member of the Cologne Opera then, as was her husband, the conductor Georg Fischer. Those were the days when the arts were heavily subsidized, so I got to see her sing numerous roles like Rosina, Servila, Despina, Susanna,, and Sophie. Her stage presence was mesmerizing. I fell in love with her then and never stopped revering her vocal beauty and artistry.

Hab ich auch gerade gedacht; Wunderlichs Aufnahme war immer die Referenz für mich. Bei Popp akzeptier ich sogar das doch etwas schleppende Tempo - da dauert das Lied eben länger. Und von der Stimme kann ich sowieso nie genug bekommen.

The first aria from Lucia Popp I heard was Rusalka about 5 years ago. Her voice still astounds me.
