How's the fitment between the frame and slide? I bought one new last summer and it had a canted and crooked slide. Called customer service, rep was very rude borderline ghetto. Sent pics to factory. Was told to send it in for evaluation and repair. No way to repair (can't add metal to frame to correct the orientation of the slide). Told SW I wanted gun replaced. They then said the sloppy tolerances and crooked slide were normal. Explained to SW that my 2 other model 41s don't have crooked slides. They then told me to kick rocks. Contacted my dealer who contacted his sales rep. Sales rep agreed on replacing the gun. Took gun back to dealer, dealer sent gun to SW. SW sent gun back and said there was nothing wrong with it. Dealer contacted rep again and sent gun in again. Been waiting for replacement since June. Buyer beware, look over every square inch of the gun before you purchase, even if it wears performance center markings.

I'm sorry for your negative experience and I must admit, the S&W quality control has significantly degraded over the past few years :( With my Model 41 the slide and the frame are matched perfectly: no play at all, glides like on rails! Disassembling also required a bunch of elbow grease. My 1st range shooting experience was pretty positive except that I totally disliked how the safety operates. First of all it is VERY STIFF to move up and down and I'd say one can easily damage their fingers or nails operating it a few times. Another (even more frustrating) thing is that I found my thumb finger slightly pushing the safety lever up when shooting which engages the safety and prevents the shot. I would expect it to be way more stiff and positive. So, safety trigger is CRAPPY, at least with my gun. I hope it is not a defect, but rather related to that gun is new and all the metallic surfaces should adjust to each other after some time. If not - I'm afraid I will have to work with S&W support on this.

@@kroisostreasure common issue. Safeties are a bear and known to be activated when shooting. Nature of the beast. Reading SWs BBB complaints I'd say you're better off not sending it to them lol.

I bought a new SW Model 41 PC in August, 2019. Has many stove pipes, jams, and a few misfires. Some of the magazines work well and a few lead to some of the problems that I have experienced with the gun as mentioned-magazine “fit” is very important for this gun. Current model 41 PC’s are not well made.
I spoke with several gun craftsmen and they told me today’s 41 PC is “junk”. Performance Center means nothing……it is not on par with a custom made gun but they sure charge like it! Today’s model 41 are not made to the same quality like those made in the 70’s and 80’s.
It might be due to SW moving their factory to Tennessee and current workers are angry and now don’t care about what they put together!

@@myronsenchyshak8025 I will say this. The replacement came and I am extremely impressed with the quality. Just took 10 months and two $1500+ pistols to get it right. Machining, wood, bluing all look great. It pays to complain and stick up for yourself. Trust in S&W somewhat restored. Will only be buying them from the dealer I purchased this one from. His rep seems to actually care and have some pull.

I just purchased a new Smith 41 Performance Center. The slide appears to be stuck. After hours of racking the slide by hand sometimes it is smooth sometimes it doesn't move. Then sometimes the slide will not release. The safety is stuck. you can't move it one way or the other without a prybar, The trigger guard take down does not work at all. I'm 6'2 295 pounds and I can not pull down the trigger guard for disassembly. I have yet to load this gun since nothing functions except the mag release.
The dealer and Smith & Wesson have bent over backwards to resolve my problem. Gun is going back to the factory on their dime and they couldn't more helpful and apologetic. We shall see..
