Great details on the uniforms! Most interesting one in the video in my opinion has to be the 1945 Northern Philippines surrender uniform. By the end of the war, the Japanese had been driven to the mountainous regions of the northern Philippines after being defeated by Filipino and American forces so it makes sense that the quality of their uniforms would have degraded by then, most notably with their footwear. Fun Fact: General Yamshita gave his surrender in the northern Philippines if I recall correctly.
My father was there in Northern Luzon as a combat medic in the 63d Infantry of the 6th Infantry Division. He didn’t talk about his experiences there or in New Guinea. A terrible war for both sides.
My nephew's grandfather was in the U.S 6th Infantry Division and saw action in New Guinea and the Philippines. Ended the war fighting in Northern Luzon. Reportedly, never talked about his combat experiences (like most WW2 combat veterans) and did not like it when my nephew would play with army figures or play with sticks as guns when he was a kid.
@@jefesalsero I understand. I was all Gung Ho about joining the Army to be a “hero” when I was in junior and senior high school. My Dad humored me by taking me to surplus stores etc. one day I got too enthusiastic. He pulled the car to the side of the road and said, “when you are holding what’s left of your friend in a ditch you won’t feel like a hero.” As a medic he had a few of those experiences. Sobered me up. I found a photo of him in a tent with some buddies on the Sixth Division website. He was about 23-24 years old. My Grandgather was a guerilla in the USAFIPNL and fought against the IJA in Northern Luzon Philippines, where Gen. YAMASHITA eventually surrendered. Now I can see in detail what a Japanese soldier looked like in his stories. Thank you.
Since the Sino-Japanese War in the 1930s, the Japanese military has gained notoriety for its abuse of prisoners of war. First of all, the cause of the massacre in Nanjing was that among the citizens of Nanjing, the remnants of the Chinese army were hiding. Even Chinese soldiers who surrendered without resistance were often slaughtered because they were lazy to deal with it, and human experiments using prisoners of war were conducted without hesitation. This was the same during the Pacific War, when the prisoners were transported by boat at the first Wake Island battle since the bombing of Pearl Harbor, and the prisoners were immediately decapitated just because they stood up without permission. In addition, after the Battle of the Philippines, U.S.-Philippine prisoners were captured on a large scale, and they marched hundreds of kilometers without food or water, killing 10,000 people due to starvation or summary disposal of losers. This is the famous Vatan death march. At this time, it is said that the prisoner was stabbed with a bayonet because the bullet was a waste and was summarily disposed of.
@@Kimjongun999 They were worse than the Germans, if that can be considered possible. And most don't know about the crimes in the Pacific theater, including the experiments that put Mengele to shame. Yeah I know right? Imperial Japan doesn't get as much show as their third reich counterpart. I love the unique history behind the Imperial Japanese Army, and some of the weapons used by them facsinate me. I especially love Japanese tanks. Though some may say they were tin cans, thing you have to remember is they designed them to be ISVs rather than be used against other tanks. They were good for their main purpose essentially.
These videos are fantastic. I'd like to see one regarding the personal kit items: haversack, tacoashi, and how they were typically packed. In particular, for the tropical campaigns.

Indeed it is, a lot of equipment such as the backpack, shelter half, bread bag, and mess kit were copies of German 1880s equipment adapted for Japanese use.
