Just got a thumbnail of 'Julia Dreams' from a rather charming 1968 black and white video from the band, with a youthful Gilmour appearance that's completely charmed me. I was never the greatest fan of Floyds more, fey, Lysergic- infused- offerings- per se, with the exception of say, Grantchester Meadows, Fat old sun and Green is the colour perhaps, but this tune is quite the revelation. There's an incredible number of weird and wonderful bands coming my way lately via thumbnails from the glory days of the early 70's, e.g-Camel, Werewolf, Caravan...all with at least a smattering of 'keepers'- songs for the mp3.There's even stunning archive concert footage trickling through as well; in particular a Genesis,1973 appearance at Paris, Bataclan that is unfathomably good in cinematic quality. What a great tragedy Floyd didn't get their Wall concerts adequately filmed.
The joy of these lists is that no-one is right and no-one is wrong. I love Atom Heart Mother but hardly ever play Animals, an album I don't care for. There, I said it...
@@classicalbum : yes I have sub. I found your channel about 2 months ago. The J. Tull, RUSH and best live albums were so indepth. Exit...stage left has always been my favorite. Geddy's bass is so clear. Anyhow, I'm done bothering you. Take care.

Excellent selection, although my own list would have to put _"Comfortably Numb"_ in the top spot, probably with _"Dogs"_ at the second spot. The remainder of my top 10 would include almost all of the songs in your list, although not in the same order. It's really nice to see _"High Hopes"_ mentioned. When _"The Division Bell"_ was released I felt it was a relatively weak album for Pink Floyd, but eventually noticed that I was playing it over and over again without getting tired of it, and that's especially true of _"High Hopes"._
Another great vid! I was so pleased you dedicated that much time to MEDDLE..."One of These Days" is still huge in my life...when I worked overnight "progressive" rock radio, I/we (all the jocks did it) used to play "Dogs" and count the number of times the word echoes through the piece -- that's how boring overnight radio can be! (And none of us ever had the same word count!) I must agree with Roxanne Walsh below...I did love me some "See Emily Play." Thanks, Barry!
1- Dogs 2- Brain Damage / Eclipse 3- Atom Heart Mother 4- Echoes 5- Comfortably Numb 6- Carefull With that Axe Eugene (Live at Pompeï) 7- Embryo (Live at the BBC) 8- Grandchester Meadows 9- Fat Old Sun 10- A Pillow of Wind * Honnorable mentions: Fearless, Green is the Colour, Astronomy Domine, Let there be more light, Shine on you crazy diamond, The Post-War Dream, Nobody Home, Julia Dream, Pigs (Three Different ones), Cymbaline
Wow, you really went deep with your explanation. I think you made some great choices and I also love AHM too. I just think we need to love the songs. The great thing about ALL Pink Floyd music is it can mean something different to every lister and no one is wrong. This added with the fact their music is as relevant today as it was the day it was written makes it even more special!

In The Flesh (Both ?And!) 9. Wish You Were Here 10. Fearless Also Floyd-Tracks that would be in my Top Ten, but couldn't hence there are only ten spots: Mother, One Of These Days, High Hopes, Echoes, Fat Old Sun, Have A Cigar, Sheep, Hey You, Interstellar Overdrive, Set the Controls For The Heart Of The Sun, Keep Talking...
I appreciate the breakdown that you give your particular topic. I find it difficult to compile lists, but here goes. 1. Great Gig in the Sky, 2. Dogs, 3. One of these Days, 4. Shine on you Crazy Diamond, 5. Wish you were Here, 6. Atom Heart Mother, 7. Brain Damage/Eclipse, 8. One of my Turns, 9. Pigs( Three Different Ones), 10. Echoes.
I'm a huge fan of 'DOGS' also. I saw Roger perform this in So. Florida at an outdoor amphitheater . The mood, temperature, and ambience was perfect. IN THE FLESH tour, I think.
1. Time 2. Echoes 3. Wish You Were Here 4. See Emily Play 5. Comfortably Numb 6. A Pillow of Winds 7. Sheep 8.Careful With that Axe Eugene 9. Shine on you Crazy Diamond 10. High Hopes (bonus: Seamus, Money, Great Gig in the Sky, Learn To Fly, Us and Them, ABITW)

When it comes to songs it is worth mentioning their beginnings: when I was still a child and before I knew any of the LPs they had some singles that were almost like from another band altogether - Arnold Layne, See Emily Play, Scarecrow and - best of all - Paintbox. 10. Green is the Colour 9. Careful With That Axe, Eugene 8. Let There Be More Light 7. Set the Controls for the Heart of the Sun 6. Cymbaline 5. Fat Old Sun 4. One of These Days 3. Time 2. Echoes 1. Wish You Were Here
Huge Floyd fan since the mid 70's. If I had to recommend 10 songs to someone who's never heard Floyd and I wanted them to get a true taste of their music (In the 70's) this would be my list. (in no particular order) 1) Dogs 2) One of these Days 3) Hey You 3) Pigs (three different ones) 4) Have a Cigar 5) The Final Cut 6) Time 7) Goodbye Blue Sky 8) Any colour you like 9) Wish you were here 10) Welcome to the machine
My second favorite pink floyd song is Jugband blues. I have a soft spot for Syd and this song paints a painful picture of feeling alienated from his band and bandmates. We'll never know how much acid he took and the ultimate toll it had on him and I think the lyrics are surreal with him telling how he was something to be in charge of. He never wanted to be an icon of great attention or accept the demands from his producers and bandmates alike to create money making hits to no end. I still cry at the end of shine on you crazy diamond.
1. Time 2. High hopes 3. Pigs (three different ones) 4. Nobody home. 5. Comfortably numb 6. Your possible pasts 7. The final cut 8. Hey you 9. Not now John. 10. Us and them
Wow. This video was truly a pleasure to listen to. Thank you for your in-depth and passionate explanation. While I find it difficult to create my top ten tracks, I can say that ‘Mother’ is my favorite track from a PF album. However, David Gilmour’s ‘Echoes’ from Gdańsk album is my favorite PF track.
My favorite PF song is A Pillow of Winds. It's so cosmically romantic. The whole Meddle album is in a world apart from their other albums. It was raw and pure, taking from the innocence of the Barrett years, and going another step beyond, into uncharted territory. I really like Julia Dream, as well.
Mine is 1 Dogs 2 Time 3 Pigs (Three different ones) 2018 remix 4 Comfortably Numb 5 Have a Cigar 6 Shine on you crazy diamond 7 Money 8 Echoes 9 Sheep 10 Wish You Were Here
Since I'm still catching up on videos since I started watching your channel, I just came upon this one today, and it is very good. Your thoughts were well articulated, and I liked how you were all over the spectrum, particularly early albums, which made me very happy. Absolutely agree with Atom Heart Mother...simply stellar album that I play regularly. Meddle, being my favorite, I completely agree with your thoughts on the two songs... I'd like to mention that before the pandemic, Nick was talking about how his wonderful band, Saucerful Of Secrets, were thinking about adding Echoes to a future set list. Anyway, rambling...just a well done video...✌
Mine would be... 1. Shine On You Crazy Diamond, 2. Brain Damage/Eclipse, 3. Echoes, 4. Sheep, 5. Comfortably Numb, then in no particular order, the entire rest of DSotM, Welcome to the Machine, Sorrow, Yet Another Movie, High Hopes, Hey You, Dogs, One of These Days, and Let There Be More Light.

Picking ten is a really hard task when their best albums are much more than a collection of songs. My choice would come from those four classic albums from Dark Side to The Wall. The trouble is, just looking To the track lists and eliminating some feels like destroying part of my history for the last 45 years. I think I know my favourite track from each of those four - Us and Them, Shine On, Dogs and Comfortably Numb.
Time / Great Gig in the Sky. ( come on , these two songs belong together ) Wish You Were Here Us and Them Wot’s......Uh , the Deal ( from the underrated Obscured by Clouds ) Nobody Home Shine On You Crazy Diamond Any Colour You Like ( one of my favourite instrumentals of all time ) Comfortably Numb Echoes Brain Damage / Eclipse ( I know , but these two go together as well ) With apologies to : Interstellar Overdrive , High Hopes , Have a Cigar , If , Stay , Set the Controls for the Heart of the Sun
I can't take any song from your list so I have to add two honorable mentions - See Emily Play (one of the BEST psychedelic songs of all time) and Julia Dream (a personal favorite song by any band).
For me, a top ten list of Pink Floyd songs would just be a snapshot in time. The order, and even many of the songs listed would change on a monthly basis. However, Comfortably Numb would always be number one. A song that rarely gets mentioned would also make the list somewhere: The Gold It’s In The... from Obscured By Clouds. Just wanted to give some love to that deserving bit of joy.

What about sheep in the top 10 the ending is second to none. Saw Roger waters do it twice. That was the most memorable part of his concert to me. It just leaves you wanting more.
The definite core of my top 10 would be the main 3 songs from Animals, and the other 3 epics (Echoes, Shine On, AHM). Strong contenders for my remaining 4 would include some too-often overlooked gems... Sysyphus Grantchester Meadows Give Birth To A Smile A Pillow of Winds Burning Bridges Stay Any Colour You Like Don't Leave Me Now Nobody Home Your Possible Pasts The Gunner's Dream Fletcher Memorial Home The Final Cut

@ Classic Album Review ... I stated 'Time' as being my favourite before I had heard any of your other choices beyond 'High Hopes' ( which I also really like; it actually reminds me a little of 'Breathing' by Kate Bush ) . Anyway they do say that " great minds think alike" lol. BTW my favourite line on 'Time' is ... " No one told you when to run ... you missed the starting gun" !
Have you ever heard of the Finnish 90's band Kingston Wall? They made three albums and never got a record deal.. The guitarist/singer committed suicide in 1995.. Worth listen sometimes.. Records II and III Tri-logy are absolutely great albums and the first album is also good but a little bit different.. Or how to say it now.

Just checking you out (I've subbed) you clearly enjoy Pink Floyd, haven't check all your back catalog but you don't seem to mention the Final Cut...a hater ?
It's funny when I think of Wish You Were Here....If you'd have asked me 10 or 20 years ago, I would have definitely put it in my top 10 Floyd songs. I don't know why, but I started disliking the song a few years ago and I don't know what made me feel like that. Maybe I've listened to it too many times, and it's suffered the same fate that so many 'classic' rock songs have. I say it's funny because there are other Floyd songs that I've listened to roughly the same amount of times that haven't had the effect that WYWH has had....in fact if anything, I've liked them more. So yeh, it's funny the effect that some songs have on us 😎👍
Time Wish You Were Here Pigs Julia Dream Welcome To the Machine What Shall We Do Now? Comfortably Numb What's uh The Deal? Sheep Have A Cigar Not a top 10 list. Just a few brilliant highlights for me. There are many more of course. Difficult to consider these songs outside tbe context of the albums. Many of the albums i consider one big song... or at least, a single piece of music (especially the 70s albums).

This was great. Thanks for sharing.
My pleasure... do subscribe and check out my other videos.

Thank you for taking the time to watch and comment.

I agree

Someone has mentioned Interstellar Overdrive at last. Thanks.
Completely agree with top 5. Well done. You nailed the descriptions

Huge Floyd fan since the mid 70's. If I had to recommend 10 songs to someone who's never heard Floyd and I wanted them to get a true taste of their music (In the 70's) this would be my list. (in no particular order)

Welcome is in my top 10, also. You're the first one I found in agreement !

It would be very difficult for me to produce a list of PF's ten best songs, but I do know that "Childhood's End" would be on it. Thanks, Barry.
Chidhoods End is in my top 5 Pink Floyd songs. So understated.
@@Blue_Dingo It was the last song they recorded with the classic lineup that Roger Waters didn't have a writing credit on. It was all Gilmour.
@@b2tall239 So nice that Nick Mason's Saucer Full of Secrets, added it to the Lineup.
@@Blue_Dingo Yeah. Saw them in Miami Beach and was thrilled when they played it.
@@Blue_Dingo I saw one of those concerts on YT and if memory serves their entire play list that night preceded DSOTM. You can find a lot of good music in those old albums even though they're not as popular as the ones in the 70s.

Swap Great Gig for Comfortably Numb, and Fearless for Hey You. I agree with the other choices.
Echoes, sheep, dogs, shine on you crazy diamond, astronomy domine, us and them, remember a day, summer 68, time, waiting for the worms
( come on , these two songs belong together )
Wish You Were Here
Us and Them
Wot’s......Uh , the Deal ( from the underrated Obscured by Clouds )
Nobody Home
Shine On You Crazy Diamond
Any Colour You Like ( one of my favourite instrumentals of all time )
Comfortably Numb
Echoes
Brain Damage / Eclipse ( I know , but these two go together as well )
With apologies to :
Interstellar Overdrive , High Hopes , Have a Cigar , If , Stay , Set the Controls for the Heart of the Sun
This must have been a tough one to compile. So many different eras and sounds.
Really hard to do...
I especially like Echoes, not only for being an amazing song, but it plays right after Seamus on Meddle which had me like,,, damn.
Enjoyed this. Not sure if ure on spotify but I've created this playlist - would be a good addition to the channel if you could include this.
Difficult...but today is:

6.The great gig...
7.Hey You

What about sheep in the top 10 the ending is second to none. Saw Roger waters do it twice. That was the most memorable part of his concert to me. It just leaves you wanting more.
There's no way I could pick a top 10 - it would be like trying to pick a favourite child. My favourite is always the one I'm listening to at the time.
DOGS!!!!!!! Yes indeed. I've saying this since the Animals album came out. Thank you, friend ...
My pleasure.
The definite core of my top 10 would be the main 3 songs from Animals, and the other 3 epics (Echoes, Shine On, AHM).
Strong contenders for my remaining 4 would include some too-often overlooked gems...

hi may be many asked you the same ...but what is the music to introduce your videos? ...thanx ...
It was a piece of music from the Free Music Archive - I cannot remember the title
Nothing from the last 3 albums would be anywhere near my top 10.
I'm pleasantly surprised to find Dogs at the top here, and so much of the album on others' lists. I always felt Animals was under appreciated.
What are your views on Comfortably numb?

Not sure what my top ten Floyd songs are, but what I do know is that Roger Waters appears on all of them.
Just checking you out (I've subbed) you clearly enjoy Pink Floyd, haven't check all your back catalog but you don't seem to mention the Final Cut...a hater ?
I don't hate anything Pink Floyd... but I do prefer the more band centred albums.
So yeh, it's funny the effect that some songs have on us 😎👍
It's more cut back. Less going on, so doesn't lend itself as well to released listens

Not a top 10 list. Just a few brilliant highlights for me. There are many more of course.
Difficult to consider these songs outside tbe context of the albums. Many of the albums i consider one big song... or at least, a single piece of music (especially the 70s albums).
