This is a great video!! I like the reference to “Spirit” near the end. Very sly... I feel this is an accurate ranking.
Anyone that was so insecure that they changed their name because Hendrix couldn’t remember your real name has issues. Randy California is lucky he wasn’t from Poland.
I dont get the reference :( Bonhams drinking habit maybe?
@@Slipmahoney21 Randy California insecure? What a ridiculous thing to think
Yep...a good vid. I think this guy nailed it, too. Also, the 'Spirit' mention was pretty slick; I don't suspect many people got it. MF
I think it was the family of Randy California who were trying to cash in on it. If Randy felt they ripped him off he would've sued them years ago while he was still alive. Bloody spongers.
To me Physical Graffiti is their best album. It is my go to album when I just want to rock.
Many great songs on Physical, agreed.
Mine too.
Ten Years Gone and Down by the Seaside is extremely underated
I feel similarly with LZ2
I would just like to say regarding Physical Graffiti, from what I know they recorded eight brand new songs in 1974 for the upcoming album Physical Graffiti. The songs were
Custard Pie
In My Time of Dying
Trampled Under Foot
Kashmir
In the Light
Ten Years Gone
The Wanton Song
As a result the time length was more than a single album. So they pulled songs that were recorded during their former albums (Led Zeppelin III,- The Fourth Album,- & Houses of the Holy) sessions, which makes up the other half of Physical Graffiti.
I have nothing against Physical Graffiti, or the songs that were added on to the album….I understand there was not enough space for those eight songs to make a single record album. I also understand they did not want to sacrifice one of those eight songs to make a single album. If it were possible back then to make a single album with those eight songs , I wonder what Physical Graffiti would’ve been like without the added seven songs from their former albums outtakes.
Unlike most reviewers I have always put Presence on the top of my list. I know that band went through a serious issues during preparing and recording material for Presence, bur for me there's something very unique and magical about this LP. There's really no weak track for me on this album and everything flows together very well.
I find Presence a very solid LP when you consider the state of the band at the time. I wish they'd stayed in the studio during this period & churned out more while in the same creative vein.
It's in my top picks by Zep.
Agree 100%
I agree Presence was under rated. I’m still not sure where to put it?
Me too. It always gets dissed but I think it is superior to HotH
Their debut is definitely my favorite & the remastered bonus live tracks is awesome. They were raw & bluesy.
Hi, great ! review, I'm a huge Led Zeppelin fan but I'm also a huge Santana fan ( love your shirt! ) been fallowing both bands since album 1, glad you mentioned the rain song it's my no. 2 favorite Zeppelin tune, stairway to heaven was my no.1 until they played to death hear in the U.S. unfortunately the classic rock radio stations in the U.S. play only certain Zeppelin songs and that's it. I can't believe that out of the whole Physical Graffiti album they only play Kashmir, It's an epidemic all over the country and it's very frustrating.
Absolutely! said the same dam thing - there is so much more to that album, they play Kashmir ,thats it.
It's been that way for at least 30 years. I remember classic rock radio in LA back in the 90s playing songs like Black Dog into the ground but never played songs like Ten Years Gone, another brilliant gem which was absent from the airwaves.
Interesting summation of the Led Zeppelin studio albums. Physical Graffiti is my number one. Just so eclectic and. impactful. Interesting views on Presence. Fans seem to be split on that one. For me its number 3 after LZ II Love the immediacy of Presence, it almost sounds like a live album with some great guitar work and drumming especially on Achilles Last Stand, Nobody's Fault But Mine and Tea For One. I always thought that Plant's harmonica playing was underrated. It certainly added to the songs it featured on.
True.
What happened?;
why did he stop?!.
Zeppelin never put out a bad album. Not many other bands can say that. Their albums ranged from good to incredible. For me it's definitely Physical Graffiti, my favorite album ever by anyone..
Yup. Few indeed. The Beatles (though not the movie soundtrack LP despite the great 'Hey Bulldog' I'm less into Abbey Road and Let it Be I think they were done by 1969), The Doors (#3 and then #2 being their weakest IMHO but still good), Zeppelin (though to be honest not a fan of their last or 'Coda', Zep were really done by 1975 IMHO). #4 Jimi Hendrix's 4. Some other bands have a great run like Pink Floyd; 'Meddle' thru 'Animals' (4 LPs in a row as well) all with no filler, unlike the overrated 'The Wall' and most of the earlier post Syd Barrett stuff (the 1970 'BARRETT' with Floyd doing the music is another CLASSIC bitter psychedelia). The Dead from 1969 to 1979. Psychedelic Furs, Bowie, Depeche Mode.
Very good, interesting and thoughtful list. There is a case for ranking all the studio albums as #1. ITTOD was my introduction to Zeppelin. I still love it. Very future-looking while being consistent with their sound. Never understood why it wouldn't rank above Presence, which is fine and good, but very interesting compared to the rest.
Wonderful ranking! For me, Physical Graphite is No.1. Page had the time, the technology to layer riff upon riff. Ten Years Gone, with 14 guitar overdubs, might be his production masterpiece. In The Light also presents more riffs within a single song, than most guitarists can muster in their entire career!
Physical Graffiti was helped by being a double album so there were plenty of long tracks; Kashmir, In My Time of Dying, Ten Years Gone.
WTF is Physical Graphite ? Graphite is pencil lead, you Dufus.
Another excellent review! I would only switch your 3 with your 1. Simply because IV has been played to death and I think III will always be my favorite for the very reasons you stated and because its one that hasn't been played to death and I can always return to it and enjoy it. Rock on, mate. Cheers!
You REALLY know your stuff. Total kudos
Liked your commentary on Presence. I remember reading somewhere that Page said he thought it was the most accurate or authentic representation of the band's sound out of all of their records.
This made me think about the level of self reflection it would take to compose such a list.
These were the soundtracks of my life growing up.
Never could have imagined how music would just fail to put out anything as perfect in quality as the years went by. We were going up, up, up.
Progress. Evolution.
These albums and others of the late 60's-70's were the apex of music.
No one is more surprised than I.
Just for the record, Robert Plant's favourite is Led Zeppelin 3 and Jimmy Page rates ' Physical Graffiti ' as being the best album that he ever worked on. I would also like to add that ' In Through the Outdoor' contains several of my favourite Zeppelin songs including 'In The Evening' and 'Carouselambra' !
Did I mention Robert Plant's favourite album? I'm not sure I did. I'm glad you like 'In through the Our door' - I think they're all great.
No you never mentioned Plant's personal favourite but I was just adding a bit of extra info that I had picked up over the years. My top 3 choices are 3) 'Houses of the Holy' with 1st and 2nd favourites interchanging between Zep4 and 'Physical Graffiti'. I agree that they are all great albums !
+78y
Great video, I always think it's Ian Anderson here speaking, which is meant to be a great compliment. Thank you - I enjoy your reviews so much and became a Marillion fan too ;-)
Wow, thank you! Glad you enjoy the videos
Saying "worst" to "best" really doesn't work with Zep. I certainly have my favorites, but with a bad Zep tune being such a rarity, it just comes down to a subjective feel. Personally, I never listen to "Tea for One," "Thank You," nor am I a fan of "Down by the Seaside" or "In the Light," but for some Zep fans, I've just ignored their favorite songs. Oh well. My favs:
1. Houses of the Holy
2. Physical Grsffitti
3. Zep III
4. Presence
5. Zep IV
As a teeny, I listened Physical Graphity many times over headphones from start to end, and I always came back from another planet
1a: Led Zeppelin
1b: Physical Graffiti
1c: Houses of the Holy
1d: II
1e: IV (Note: Page has gone on record saying this is the title he's always used for this album)
1f: III
1g: Presence
1h: In Through the Out Door.
9: Coda
I think you hit my list! How Many More Times makes I the best.
exactly my list
To me, being aware how subjective this is, in the order from the least good to the best, and excluding two albums (Coda as leftovers rather than proper album and The Song Remains as live rather than studio album): 8. In Through the Out Door; 7. Presence; 6. Houses of the Holy; 5. III; 4. Physical Graffiti; 3. I; 2. II; 1. IV.
Roy Harper sang the lead vocal on The Floyd's "Have a Cigar"
@@apollomemories7399 HE didn't seem to know it. He didn't mention it. My intent wasn't to be pedantic (look in the mirror showoff) The subject was more about Harper than Page's activities.
i agree with your ranking and i will comment that coda as a collection of left overs from previous albums is their worst album tatoo you on the other hand is a very good album in the stones catalogue
I am amazed to see Zeppelin II appear so low. I get that these rankings were probably very close but side 2 for me competes with Zeppelin 4 side 1 for my all time favorite side of vinyl, All 5 traks are outstanding.
Also I don't quite get the hype behind Physical graffiti, I've played to it many times and I've never viewed it as particularly special, at lest compared to the rest of Zeppelin's catalogue that is.
Surprised to see II so low. It's impossible to do this but came up with:
1. IV
2. II
3. Houses
4. I
5. In Through The Out Door
6. III
7. Physical Graffiti
8. Presence
2 is awesome - they all are
Disagree. Too much ubersexual generic rock, very similar to just another band imo. An album like III or of course IV shows off their more stylistic, folky blues sound which makes them so unique
@@tmsskits Referring to Led Zepellin II as "generic rock" is absolutely off-the-charts ludicrous... just to let you know.
@@MonkyMonk729 no it isn't. Two isn't a bad album but it's not one of their best. How does it compare to 4 or Houses Of The Holy or 3. It's hard rock, but nothing else with that.
I quite liked your 'Who' ranking but I had to tune out here when 'Presence' was rated No.7. It's my fave Zeppelin album because it is SO intense, no acoustic guitars, no keyboards. Of course I love all that on the earlier albums but 'Presence' is Zeppelin stripped down to the raw essence with some KILLER grooves.
I also don't agree with you about 'Coda'. Yes it was outtakes and obviously not a proper album because the band was history by then. But it really was done as a tribute to John Bonham. And if you listen to it from that perspective it is really amazing. Honestly I only realized that recently but it totally changed my perception. I mean they just paid tribute to him and gave him center stage like with 'Bonzo's Montreux'. And that's why the live version of 'I can't quit you baby' was included. Listen to those drums, holy mackerel!! I VASTLY prefer 'Coda' over 'In through the out door'
My Ranking
1 Zep II
2 Physical Graffiti
3 Zep IV
4 Houses Of The Holy
5 In Through The Out Door
6 Zep I
7 Zep III
8 Presence
9 CODA
Led Zeppelin the 'magpies' of rock/blues/folk music.
Superb overview that Barry and a fascinating analysis. The quality and consistency of their albums is second to none and your ranking is pretty much my own, apart from the number one slot. For me that's the second album - a rock masterpiece from start to finish.
I'm with you on 2 being their #1.
It's just the most satisfying LZ album for me from start to finish. It's a rocker, but it's also infused with all the other styles LZ does so well including two of their greatest blues songs, "Lemon Song" and "Bring it on Home". John Paul Jones bass on Lemon Song is still absolutely mind blowing to me every time I hear it. To make an ironclad case for 2, you really only need to recite the tracklist.
@@MonkyMonk729 Yes, it is the most satisfying of their albums. Sonically it's amazing and Robert's vocal control was never better. The finest rock singer at his very best. I don't think he was ever quite as good after this album.
Wading into this debate is dicey at best. So many valid opinions, so much emotion. At the end of the day you like what you like...That being said, here's yet another list:
-Coda
-In Through the Out Door
-Houses of the Holy
-II
-III
-I
-IV
-Phys Graf
-Presence
I think physical graffiti is the best, with one of the best performances from john bonham in "In My Time of Dying". I still get goosebumps whenever he switches to just the hi hat and the bass drum with a couple snares mixed in. Just for that song, I'd call it the best.
A fine review, to be sure. One aspect that I am sure would be hard to value - ITTOD and Presence ( and Coda) were the albums that were released IN my ( and many others ) aware lifetime- and as such were very relevant to us. This was LZs music for us, as opposed to the historic landmarks that came before I (us)could comprehend. It all means so much to me (us). Forever
Side note - after I had a better understanding of where LZs power resided, I only listened to,and collected bootleg live performances- forsaking the studio work for decades. All the events that I had missed- it hurt some
It's sad that you value music just because it was released after you were born. Shows how limited and limiting your mind is,.
Good to see Tea For One getting some love.
I think it is an absolute gem that is somehow overlooked.
I couldn't do a vid like this......I would have to redo it on regular basis as my favorite changes so often.
CODA was released for tax and contractual reasons in 1982. Two tracks (We're Gonna Groove & I Can't Quit You Baby) were taken off of a bootleg from a 1970 concert they did at Royal Albert Hall. Page took the master tape and reworked it in studio. Walter's Walk was left off of Houses of the Holy. Poor Tom was left off of Zep 3. Bonzo's Montreux was recorded on it's own in Switzerland with an unclear plan for it's release. Ozone Baby, Wearing and Tearing, and Darlene were out-takes from In Through the Out Door.
Hi Barry, awesome video. Great pick for number I.
1. Physical Graffiti
2. Led Zeppelin IV
3. Houses Of The Holy
4. Led Zeppelin III
5. Presence
6. In Through The Out Door
7. Led Zeppelin II
8. Led Zeppelin I
9. Coda
Keep going with the channel - hopefully you'll get some more subs.
Classic Album Review Thanks Barry. Yes, slowly but surely.
Excellent. Correct me if I’m wrong, but isn’t Presence the only album without any keyboards? Any way, love when a new video of yours pops up! Keep up the excellent work. Here’s 1 guy’s opinion.
1. Physical Graffiti
2. 4
3. 3
4. Houses of the Holy
5. 2
6. In Through the Out Door
7. 1
8. Presence
9. Coda
Another great ranking. However my top few: III / I / II / in order ! Thank you.
Excellent analysis...
Although I don't "totally" agree with this gentleman I do value his takes. Thanks for the work, appreciated.
Great video! Like the way, the albums are presented.
I agree with the ranking too, except for two minor changes - I like "Houses of the Holy" a bit more than LZ III and my favorite album is "Physical Graffiti" closely followed by IV (untitled). Anyway, there is no bad album by LZ, just less great ones 😉
Really like Houses of the Holy the best. I would love to see you do top 50 songs of the Zep.
Each of the four lead-off tracks iteratively pushes rock forward:
- GTBT
- WLL
- TIS
- BD
While I don't entirely agree, I find your style captivating and eloquent. Great work...
Cool, thanks!
Nice video. I would swap a few around to make my list. Houses is my favorite. Just a great album with quite a diversity of songs. Presence is my number two. III and IV come in right behind for me, then Physical. The first two are next and then ITTOD is last. Not a fan. I don't rank CODA, because it isn't really a Zep album, just a compilation of outtakes and other tunes left off previous albums, released two years after Bonham's death.. There are some excellent tunes on it and I find it much more enjoyable than Outdoor. The good thing is that this shows our passion for music and our own, fairly diverse, opinions.
An old video
1. Led Zeppelin 4
2. Led Zeppelin
3. Led Zeppelin 2
4. Physical Graffiti
5. Houses of the Holy
6. Led Zeppelin 3
7. In through the Out Door.
8. Presence.
9. Coda.
YES! I don't like Stairway but have NO clue how any album can rank higher than IV. Maybe..... if I listened to the other albums I'd find out!!!
I disagree with your posting of In Through The Out Door. It's a very underrated album. It's John paul Jones' album and it's brilliant.
I loved Led Zeppelin III so much. I was a little surprised it was considered a disappointment at the time, but i can understand since it really deviated from their previous work
Fantastic understanding of the band. The fourth album that's it! Great ending.
Please listen to Wire and talk about it. The first four albums are so brilliant and influential. Cheers
Best to not as good:
1 The Original Crispy
4 The One Everyone Knows
5 The One Everyone Thinks Is Best
7 The One with So Much, it Had to Be Good
8 The Last One
3 The One that Caught Everyone Off Guard
2 The Most Bloated
6 The Densest
9 The Least Impressive
Original Crispy changed Rock, top to bottom.
ZOSA gave it meaning.
Five expanded the definition of Rock.
The Double-Album brimmed over with ideas.
The End came out of nowhere, as unexpected as a flash flood.
Whole lotta love was one of the first hits to feature palm muted power chords which became a metal trope and is ubiquitous today.
Whole Lotta Love was not a single.Eric Clapton was using palm mutes with The Bluesbreakers years before LZ II. Listen to them do "Steppin' Out".
The first 6 albums are pretty equal imo. I’d put Presence and In Out last, and Coda slightly above them. Of the first 6, I listen to LZ1 and LZ3 the most.
4:59 - That's an interesting folktale but it seems to suggest that Johnson went blind in adulthood, or at least later in life when he was able to read. Biographers tend to agree that Johnson was blinded around the age of seven by his stepmother.
I'm not sure that the sleeve of "Houses of the Holy" was entirely without controversy when the album was first released.
2 and Physical Graffiti are the best two...The Lemon Song...What is and What Should Never Be...The Rover...Custard Pie...
Another great review. Love the way you make each album come alive even the ones towards the bottom
1. Houses Of The Holy
2. Led Zeppelin IV
3. Physical Graffiti
4. Led Zeppelin II
5. Led Zeppelin
6. Led Zeppelin III
7. Presence
8. In Through The Out Door
9. Coda
I also got flagged on FB for posting the Houses of the Holy album cover.
1. Led Zeppelin I
2. Presence
3. Houses Of The Holy
4. Led Zeppelin ll
5. Physical Grafitti
6. IV
7. III
8. Coda
9. ITTOD
I don’t consider Coda a Led Zeppelin studio album. It was put out after the band was done making music and doesn’t contain a full album’s worth of studio material, so I just don’t count it.
8. Presence
Rating: 7.3/10
Favorite Song: Nobody’s Fault But Mine
Comments: It’s good, but it lacks the fun quality of Zeppelin’s past works and just doesn’t hold up that well to me. Also, a bit of a hot take or whatever, but I think “Achilles Last Stand” is one of their most uninteresting songs.
7. In Through the Out Door
Rating: 7.4/10
Favorite Songs: South Bound Saurez / Fool in the Rain
Comments: Yeah, I know it’s a dip in quality from the other Zeppelin records, but I find it fun so it’s slightly higher in my rankings than it is in others’.
6. Physical Graffiti
Rating: 7.6/10
Favorite Songs: The Rover / In My Time of Dying / Houses of the Holy
Comments: I know it’s a lot of people’s favorite album, maybe of all time. But it’s too long. It’s got a lot of good material on it. All of sides one and two of the vinyl are pretty much perfect, and I can throw “In the Light” in that list of perfection, too, I guess. But after that, there aren’t many songs I care for. I really do feel like this one could be a single album rather than a double.
5. Led Zeppelin III
Rating: 8.3/10
Favorite Songs: All of Side One
Comments: I’d say this is where I start loving the albums. Side one is packed with hard rock and blues classics, while side two has all the folky stuff that I can appreciate. I probably like the album more than I say here, it could be anywhere between my number 5 and my number 3, but usually it falls at 5. I guess it depends on how nostalgic I’m feeling.
4. Led Zeppelin IV
Rating: 8.4/10
Favorite Song: Four Sticks
Comments: Yeah, this album has a lot of overplayed songs. “Black Dog,” “Rock and Roll,” and especially “Stairway to Heaven” are songs most people never need to hear again. But I still like all of those, as well as all the stuff that never gets any love from the radio. “Four Sticks” is probably the most underrated Zeppelin song. It just has this energy it has stored up and never quite releases. It just sounds like a rubber band ready to snap.
3. Houses of the Holy
Rating: 8.5/10
Favorite Song: The Ocean
Comments: It’s just good. Not a bad song on it. “Song Remains the Same” is a classic. “The Rain Song” is beautiful. “Over the Hills and Far Away” is one of my favorites from Zeppelin. “The Crunge” is just funny. “Dancing Days” is a lot of fun hard rock. “D’yer Mak’er” is a cool, fun kind of reggae thing and it’s always been one of my favorites. “No Quarter,” while probably being my least favorite on the album, is still cool and unique. And “The Ocean” is one of the most fun songs to play on guitar and just to listen to.
2. Led Zeppelin
Rating: 9.1/10
Favorite Song: Dazed and Confused
Comments: It’s a total classic. Everything on here is extremely strong, even if it isn’t umm... completely original material. Controversies aside, I love it a lot and have very little to complain about with it.
1. Led Zeppelin II
Rating: 10/10
Favorite Songs: All of Them. Just Everything.
Comments: This album is just the most perfect hard rock and blues rock album. “Whole Lotta Love,” while overplayed, is one of my top 3 Zeppelin songs just because of what it taught me about music. The first time I heard it, I thought it was alright, but then that psychedelic part kicked in and I was taken to a different dimension. That part of the song made me realize what people could do with music and changed the way I listened. And then the rest of the album is just awesome, too. I can’t single any other song out because all of them are equally fantastic. Some mean more to me than others, like “Thank You,” and some just straight up rock, like “The Lemon Song” and “Heartbreaker.” It’s just awesome and it’s one of my two favorite albums of all time.
No, they owed Atlantic/Swan Song one more album per contract.
9. Houses of the Holy
8. In Through The Out Door
7. Physical Graffiti
6. Presence
5. Coda
4. III
3. IV
2. II
1. I
Perfect
Nobody's Fault But Mine is one of my favorite songs by them
Would have ranked the debut and II (despite its stolen riffs) higher, while I always felt that both Houses of the Holy and Physical Graffitti have great individual tracks, but as albums are a bit patchy/uneven.
Happy though to see III so high up in your list. Never understood why it is often regarded as one of the weakest of their albums.
And yes, IV/untitled will always remain their ultimate best :-)
nice. I can't argue with you.
#.- Zep 1
#3 - Houses of the Holy
#2b - Runes/ZoSo/Zep 4
#2a - Zep II
#1 - Physical Graffiti
My top 3. Led Zeppelin 4, Led Zeppelin 3 and Physical Graffiti... All Led Zeppelin albums are different and that's why they will always be one of the greatest rock bands ever!
I've finally decided. 3 is my favourite. Followed by 2, 1, 4, Physical Graffiti, Houses Of The Holy, Presence, In Through The Out Door and then Coda.
I THINK!
How do I rank Led Zeppelin, worst to best albums, from the band that I think is the Greatest Rock Band of All-Time! Man, your putting me on the spot, but here it is.
#9. Coda
#8. In Through the Out Door
#7. Presence
#6. III
#5. Physical Graffiti
#4. Led Zeppelin
#3. Houses of the Holy
#2. II
#1. IV
I was young when John Bonham passed away, but I already loved their music because my Uncle played in a garage band, and they attempted to play some of their songs. Rock n' Roll is all I listened to growing up. I am so thankful that in 1995, Robert Plant and Jimmy Page played a show
at Irvine Meadows Amp. I stood up in the 5th row, and those two Kicked Ass that night. I know it's not seeing Led Zeppelin in concert, but it was the next best thing!
Ooh, so so close to my worst to best ranking. Agree with all, but I would switch the order (w-t-b) LZ 111, LZ 11 then HOTH. 4 just pipping PG? Absolutely spot on! Great video mate 👍
For me...1.Ledzep1...2.Ledzep2..3.Ledzep1V..4.Physical Grafitti..5. LEDZEP3..6.HOUSES OF THE HOLY...7.PRESENCE.....8. In trough...
Couldn't agree with you more about Tea For One. Not only one of the best tracks on that album, but one of the best Zeppelin tracks ever. Period.
Let’s not forget Page’s theft of Bert Jansch’ “Blackwaterside”, which was simply straight-up stolen...in just the way he stole the modal, ragaesque version of “She Moves Through the Fair” that was Davey Johnstone’s, which he gratuitously retitled “Hot Summer” while he was with the Yardbirds. “Gallows Pole” was lifted directly from Leadbelly, aka Huddie Leadbetter, a seminal blues original.
Agree completely with your rankings.
For me, based on sentimental value & nostalgia of growing up.
1. Led Zeppelin II
2. Physical Graffiti
3. Led Zeppelin
4. Led Zeppelin III
5. Led Zeppelin IV
6. Houses Of The Holy
7. Presence
8. In Through The Out Door
9. Coda
I would shoot their second album up to #1, but otherwise agree with the rest. Ramble On, What Is And What Should Never Be, Thank You, and Heartbreaker would all be in my top 10 Zeppelin songs.
Agree where you placed In Through the Out Door. I remember when it came out, local rock station played it all and it was a big disappointment. They were out of gas at that point.
Great lot of albums. I think most would more or less agree with the ranking order
8. Presence
7. In through the out door
6. I (unpopular opinion, i know)
5. III
4. Houses of the Holy
3. Physical Graffity
2. II
1. IV
I think the best album so far is The Song Remains the Same. Of course is a live album and does not count, but it really brings you inside the career of the band.
Led Zeppelin 1 is not only my favorite Zeppelin album, it's also on my list of best albums of all time.
THE DIFFERENCE BETWEEN CODA AND TATOO YOU IS THAT TATTOO YOU IS A GREAT RECORD
This is one of the most entertaining and intelligent music channels on UA-cam, BUT I personally consider Zep to be the greatest rock band in history BECAUSE their catalogue is unrankable! Every album is excellent including CODA!
Such a pity they were outrageous plagiarists. The Stones ALWAYS credited the original artist when they recorded a blues cover but Zeppelin preferred to rip people off.
In reverse order, like the reviewer above. By far, my favorite band and I've followed them since their inception. But my rankings tend to be different than most.
8. III, great stuff, but my least favorite Zep.
7. I
6. II
5. In Through the Out Door
4. Presence. So underrated, it astonishes me.
3. Houses of the Holy. a Masterpiece. One of their three pure masterpieces.
2. IV. Despite side one being overplayed, it's still nearly perfect.
1. Physical Graffiti. The greatest album(s) ever made.
"The biggest fuck off drum sound in rock" he says, moments after declaring this a family show lol
I must correct you 2 minutes in before continuing to watch. CODA was not released to "squeese one out"....it was released for contractual reasons.
I always thought the Led Zepp 4, was called: “Houses of the Holy” … the featured track never got on to it but showed up on Physical Graffiti instead some years later. Album 4 was aka: Houses of the Holy. Way before graffiti was published.
You know that when the debut album is only their 6th best you're dealing with an absolutely epic band...
What was amazing about Zeppelin is that they can a huge range of styles on a single album and still make it all come out as a solid whole that all works together.
In My Opinion All The Albuns Of Led Zeppelin Is Good ! For Me And All The Folks Around Me 😁😁
I've looked at several of these LZ rankings, and yours comes closest to my own list. I've got Presence edging out the debut (mostly because of the inclusion of "Achilles Last Stand" and "Nobody's Fault But Mine"), and I've got LZIV and Physical Graffiti switched around, but otherwise it's the same list.
9. CODA
8. Led Zeppelin II (Yeah .. I said it!)
7. In Through The Out Door
6. Presence
5. Led Zeppelin
4. Led Zeppelin IV
3. Led Zeppelin III
2. Houses Of The Holy
1. Physical Graffiti
Physical Graffitti is number 1 for me.
But seriously... UltimateClassicRock ranked it number 7 of all Zeppelin albums
S E V E N!!!!!
That actually provoked me
Led Zep. 2 was their best album;
“Heartbreaker” their best song …. No debate!
Compliments for the brilliant tee shirt....how about a worst to best of Santana????
Zep ll has to be the best for me.. then lll and lV in any order.
I think Physical Graffiti is pretty special too.. dont listen that often but I really enjoy it when I do.
Dont agree with the first album position... A classic and inovative disc!!!
Agreed honestly i think its their most important record
It's probably my favourite album of theirs. Yes, it's got the most covers and stolen songs but I prefer their covers to their originals, pretty much solely because I find Plant's lyrics borderline insufferable.
1. Physical Graffiti
2. Houses of the Holy
3. III
4. IV
5. Led Zeppelin
6. Presence
7. In Through the out Door
8. II
9. Coda
Check out the deluxe edition of CODA it's a gem💚
It was part of there contract with Atlantic they owed them one more album so that’s why Jimmy Page released Coda after Bonzo passed.
I still find it odd that my favorite LZ song (houses of the holy) is not on the Houses of the Holy album.
Physical Graffiti has to take the top spot for me. Great list
14:12 - 17:20 LZ 3. Did you forget possibly THE greatest blues-rock song of all time, “Since I’ve Been Loving You”? If so, might you rank this LP even higher? (Btw, I don’t rank this in their top 3).
My list which changes daily:
9. CODA
8. In through the out door
7. Presence
6. IV
5. Houses of the holy
4. I
3. III
2. II
1. Physical Graffiti
IT NEVER GOT BETTER AFTER THE FIRST 2 ALBUMS. HEAVY AMPLIFIED BLUES. AFTER THAT IT WAS HOBBITS AND FAIRY TALES. THEY COULD HAVE QUIT AFTER THE FIRST 2 AND BEEN AT THE TOP.
I enjoy "Presence" for the harder tracks. It's difficult to say with certainty which is number one for me, but 4 seems to be the complete Zep package.....great songs and a great mix/sound. Now Mr. Page needs to treat us to remastered live and unreleased stuff.
LZ1 will forever remain the best
In my ranking list Zeppelin I is very high. Many bluesy classics there.
I always preferred l to ll (the former is perfect, the latter mired by filler - 'Maid' and 'Dick'), and love lll as much as, if not more than, lV. And, for me, Physical Graffiti is way out in front.
