I am a retired teacher that has been thinking about going back in the classroom and was going insane trying to figure out what to do with my classroom. I gave everything away when I retired. You have given me such great ideas and encouragement. Thank you for being so positive and informative. Have a great school year. Oh, BTW....keep the videos going. Love them.
Can you do a tutorial on how you create cute documents/decorations for your classroom on your computer (i.e. what program, how you set everything up, etc.)? Thanks! I'm in grad school to be an elementary school teacher right now and love your videos!
I can't thank you enough! I just graduated in May and got my first teaching job! This video is so my mind right now! So thank you so much for easing a new teacher's mind! Ps, the school supply tip was extremely helpful. I wasn't sure what to buy haha 😜
Thanks so much Shelly!! We can get so consumed with our day jobs, it’s nice to see other areas that you don’t mind sharing! You are so awesomely organized!!!
I love that you said you need your classroom to feel comfortable. I too work and feel better in a nice (organized) environment, but I almost feel bad about making my room nice. I know I don't "need" a pretty classroom, but for my sanity I really do! Great video!
Yes! I am a first-time teacher (starting my final prac on Monday) and these videos are so helpful! I have just started my own Channel so i can help others and be able to look back on my teaching journey.
Save your money you probably will not get paid for two months when you begin your new job. Also, if a student destroys your personal property don't expect the student to have a punishment. Be way more worried about classroom management. Seriously, have an awesome classroom management plan before the year begins. With out a plan you will not be able to teach.
First piece of advice is too find out what is provided by the school district/school. Some schools provide basic necessities, some don't and you need to know this before starting to purchase things for the classroom. Make sure to ask if they are willing to purchase items that you don't have in your classroom and also what you are allowed to put on a supply list for students and any limitations or guidelines they have.
I am a teacher in training in Germany. Here, the students have a classroom and we teachers change classrooms throughout the day. Next schoolyear I will teach in eight different rooms six different subjects from grade five to ten, so there is no way to build up a classroom with all necessities. Therefore, the classrooms lack of concepts- they are more like a wild mixture from different student and teacher ideas. Luckily, the schools pay for all monetary expenditures we make for decoration, posters etc.
I have been watching a number of blogs. I also finish my program in December. My goal is to start in my own classroom in August. I am so excited and am literally shopping for my future classroom now.
Love your videos! As a first year teacher myself, I find your videos very helpful! Please can you do a video with your back to school haul? Also, would you ever considered doing a video on lesson planning?
How many books did you have for your classroom library when starting your first year of teaching? And was it enough to get through the year or did you need to get more throughout the year? Did you just get a bunch of individual copies of books, or did you also buy class sets (like 24 copies) of some of the books too for the class to read aloud together?
I am starting my first year this Aug and this was so helpful! I really have been enjoying your videos and they seem to help calm my nerves about the "unknown" of the next year ahead of me!
Thank you! As a first year teacher (still waiting for the job...) I'm antsy to go shopping, but am holding off because I don't know my space or the grade. The list was super helpful though. I would also be interested in your haul for the new year.
I am really wanting to follow your steps and go to every dollar tree to look for same color book bins😬 did you just print the numbers for them in labels or how did you attach the numbers to them?
hello!! this isn’t related to the video but what made you decide to teach younger kids? have you ever considered teaching high school? btw love your videos 💕
I ordered those bins from dollar tree and they're completely sold out, even in their warehouses. So, hopefully they get them again. I am totally guilty of most of these things!
Keep in mind for the future years that you can stray paint plastic bins... and anything for that matter. If it is something that will be used often (such as book bins) be sure to do multiple coats of paint.
Do not buy anything unless you get reimbursed from the school board. Your salary is earned and should not be used or expected to be used to substitute for poorly supported public education.
Shawn Marmer yes, I hear you however some school districts don't provide supplies. I work as a paraprofessional at my school and have gotten so much insight. On another note some non profit organizations are available for supplies etc. Plus she is right ask the parents so they can contribute also.
Arodys if they do not supply learning materials then the children simply will not have them. Parents pay taxes for schooling and should not subsidize school boards. Charities are great but again there must be a multitude of needs that are not supposed to be covered by taxes for running schools. What you promote, you permit!
I want to work in one of THOSE districts. I'm going into my 2nd year, and other than the $250 they give, everything else is coming out of pocket. And... as a now 2nd-year teacher, I didn't have much of anything. So I've spent so so so much money already....

I’m always grateful that my kids school never asks for supplies. Our school provides for all of our kids
Noted-"Don't go ham," before seeing my classroom space LOL. I love your humor and light-heartedness. Thank you so much for the tips!

May or may not be down here but if you’re getting white boards or clipboards put them together. They have whiteboard clipboards on amazon. Class sets

If it is not provided, invest in a printer. Seriously. There will be times where you need one page and can’t go to a copy room to do it.
Love this you did such a good job!
Your videos make my day❤️
My school pays for teachers pay teachers so always ask your school about online paid programs and accounts.

Lacey Vaughn plastic bubbles and peals when spray painted
Autumn Berlin I have done it multiple times and never had that problem. I buy the spray paint specifically for plastic though.
