1. Get to know staff -principal would be the one to write letter of recommendation 2. Get to know school area -teacher lounge, staff room 3. Be professional -student teaching is 1 whole interview 4. Take notes 5.Ask questions - (Had to go. Be back to take notes on your video. It's such a good video)
I'm a male student teacher finishing up on my last semester of full-time student teaching in a first grade class. I love it! I may not always see eye-to-eye with my mentor, but I value her immensely as a resource to help me grow and become a more effective teacher. Take notes. Make mistakes. Try again. Make more mistakes. Learn. It's your chance to hone in your craft. Figure out what works and what doesn't while you still have the support and wisdom of your mentor teacher.
I just finished 8 weeks of student teaching in first grade! I will now be doing 8 additional weeks of student teaching in fourth grade resource 😊 I also just signed a Letter of Intent to teach third grade next school year! Your videos have given me so many ideas to use in my own classroom! ❤️
Teachers that love to teach God bless them. It's not an easy Job but they do it to constantly manage their time teaching and personal life that's true skills. I am a student for life; I believe it’s never too late to learn, so I must not stop practicing good study habits. Teachers are the main key that helps children reaches their greatest potentials for a better world. Thank you to all teachers.
SO glad I discovered you on UA-cam. I am a 48 year old sophomore in college to get my teaching degree. I feel like I am too old sometimes but watching teacher videos helps me stay positive. Thank you!
Thanks for all the tips! I was always wanting to teach 5th Grade, but have been Student teaching in 3rd Grade and have been absolutely loving it! Now I'm torn what grade I would rather teach next year.
I'm teaching my first lesson on Monday, obvserved by my cooperating teacher, and my second lesson on Tuesday, observed by my professor. I'm nervous but I am taking the tip of "just do it" to heart.
i just finished my second day of student teaching. i'll be out at the school for 5 weeks total. first week is observation. second week is shared planning (where i'm going to ask to co-teach after watching this video) week 3&4 i'm expected to teach 25% of the day, and week 5 50% of the day. it's a grade 6 class, though many students are not nearly at a grade 6 level, and many are ELL students. thank you for the tips, hopefully i'll be able to put them to good use.
I start student teaching secondary in the fall, and your videos have been giving me a lot of comfort to my anxiety while I wait! Thank you for posting this, I shared it with my cohort ❤️
I agree completely with the “Just Do It.” Im a junior in college in the state of New Mexico and I’m so thankful for our education program! I’ve been in a classroom since my Freshman Year (2nd semester). My first lesson was absolute garbage! I thought it was so freaking good but when I went to teach it, it was just a major fail! However, my second lesson was hands down one of the best lessons I have ever taught!! I was able to see what worked for my students with that one failed lesson, and it helped me prepare better for my next lesson! It’s scary and nerve wrecking but whether you fail or do great, it’s something that needs to happen
I will start student teaching this fall and these tips are very helpful! I am nervous but you're right, we should't be afraid to ask questions or to teach on our own. It will be fun once I teach in my pwn classroom!
Just now saw this video. I’m just starting my student teaching in 5th grade. I’m excited and nervous at the same time, but it’s a good group of kids and my mentor teacher has been very helpful thus far.
Thank you for sharing these tips! It can get really tough, but it is honestly so worth it! Student teacher makes me even more excited to have my OWN class!
I am going to start student teaching in January. I am a little nervous because I will be teaching high school chemistry. This video really helped to ease some of my nerves.
I have student taught 3rd grade and now I am in a 5th grade classroom! I love it so far, the students can definitely be challenging as they start to get more sassy at this age but I am learning so much!
Love your channel! I’m currently in an 8th grade English classroom once a week! In the fall I’ll be in a classroom twice a week and next January I’ll be in a classroom everyday! Trying to learn as much as I can before then and your videos are great for that!!!
I watched this 3 months ago before starting my student teaching and I’m watching again as I am approaching my final weeks. I needed the reinvigoration! I can see the light at the end of the tunnel now with 4 weeks left but it’s draaaaagging on lol thank you for all your videos! ♥️♥️
I’m about to start student teaching in Texas in the spring. Technically I’ll be going into my observation semester but I’m beyond excited for it and thank you for the tips!! I’ll be sure to ask questions and take all the notes I can!
Currently in the middle of student teaching in 2nd grade! It was a great reminder of everything I should be doing while I student teach!! Thank you! ❤️
I am starting school to become an ECE in January and I have been writing down all of the tips and tricks you have been giving in all of your videos...THANK YOU!!!
Great advice, thanks so much 😊 I'm teaching science/biology and away out to my first school here in Scotland next week. I'm both excited and slightly terrified 😂
I have been a sub in a tough school district for 4 years and learned and grown alot!! I do student teaching a third time since 2009 in January! Wish me luck!!
Thank you so much for this video! I am a student teacher in MD graduating in May. I'm in my five day placement in a middle school special ed classroom. I appreciate all the tips as I get ready for my first year in the classroom!
I'm starting at a 4 year college for my bachelor's degree next week. Watching these videos about interviews and what not are really scaring me, but are incredibly helpful! I will not be student teaching for another year or so, but I have student taught when I was a high school cadet.
It's been so long since my Student Teaching and Internship experience -- and that was in 2014/15! It was certainly a whirlwind, and I had honestly forgotten all about those nerves and amount of work I had until now! I was in the Secondary program, so my youngest grade was 7, and they taught me A LOT. (Like that I didn't want to teach Elementary!) I don't regret my experience with Student teaching at all, and I was fortunate enough to earn the opportunity to teach with my art mentor from when I was in high school for my Internship, so I was in a very familiar environment! Not many teachers luck out like that with their internship, but I got it just by helping him out with his class in my free time/days off. Looking back, I don't know how I had that kind of energy, but it seriously paid off and I got the best Internship experience ever. Don't be afraid to go above and beyond and put in extra hours where it counts! It certainly helps that I didn't (and still don't) have a social life, so showing up to his class after I was finished with mine to help was something I looked forward to. And tips for the first lesson: make it something you're really interested in and have fun with it! That will seriously help take a lot of the edge off, and you'll almost be excited! Almost. My biggest approach to teaching is relating with the kids (it helps being a high school teacher) but I taught my first lesson around Halloween, so I played up the spooky aesthetic around my lesson and made it memorable and fun! I also go out of my way to build a one-on-one relationship with every student in the class, so take your time to get to know the students in your classroom! Lean their interests, behavior, and what kind of learner they are so you can tailor your lessons to them individually. Awesome video! I wish I had this back when I started my Student Teaching, but no matter what there will be bad days with the good - take them in stride, and know that this is the best time to make mistakes in your career, so when you do make them, it gets them out of the way!
For anyone that ends up in having a bad student teaching experience and doesn`t get a change or cannot get a change of mentor I have two tips: 1 - ask to observe other teachers or even see if you can teach a lesson in their class. It gives you a great opportunity to experience other grades as well as how other teachers run their classroom. 2 - A bad student teaching experience does not define you as a teacher! I unfortunately had a bad experience and was worried I would not be able to find a job and I honestly almost dropped out of the program because I was so broken up over the terrible experience. Fast forward to now and I got a teaching job right after I graduated. I taught in two different schools until finding my perfect place in the school I am in now. Third year of teaching and what I realize is that I learned just as much from my terrible experience as I could of from an amazing one! You are not alone!!!!!
About to start student teaching K-8 art and I'm so excited! It's going to be lots of commuting between schools but I love your emphasis on self-care. If our tanks are empty we have nothing to offer those we love or our students.
Thanks for all of the tips. Like you said most are fairly well known, but I definitely pulled a few. The reflective journal is a brilliant idea. I’m starting that now! I love your channel and your style of videos. Thanks! I’m currently in my last semester student teaching in a fourth grade classroom. I previously was in a first grade class. One thing I really appreciate from student teaching is learning the grades I prefer teaching. I think going in it’s so easy to pick one, but until you are in the classroom you can’t know. I have learned I definitely want to teach the primary grades. With that said, my first half of spring semester was so chaotic (I was with a different 4th grade class) that I had sworn off teaching upper elementary. So far in the second half I am getting more comfortable with my new teacher. While I still prefer the younger kiddos, if he only job I can land is upper elementary, I now know I’ll be ok.
Your videos honestly help me shake some of the nerves that I have for student teaching. The way my university in Texas does "Professional Development School" (Student Teaching lol), is the first semester, we observe two days a week, and the second semester, we student teach five days a week (AHHHH), I'm excited but nervous! So, thank you for doing what you do! Not only does it calm my nerves, but it makes me even more excited for the future :)
I recently found your channel and love your videos and tips! I am in college pursuing a degree in Early Childhood Education. Your videos are so encouraging to keep going and remind me of what I am working towards!
My school does what they call "pre-student teaching" before you actually student teach which is kind of what you described with a couple of days a week thing. So I did that the past two semesters (since I'm special education I have to do a semester of each) in 4th grade resource room and then 4th grade general education but tomorrow I start my full-time gen. ed. student teaching (5 days a week, PD days, staff meetings, conferences, everything) in second grade!
Ahh! This was amazing, and also you have perfect timing! I am doing my next practicum in a grade 5 class and I am soooo excited! My mentor teacher seems amazing, and I am so excited to get started :)
Must have had the same idea uploading videos tonight! Love your tips and am so happy you were honest! Many mentors are not great mentors, unfortunately.
I’m getting ready to student teach beginning in August! I’ll be getting my placement on April 27th. I’m SUPER thankful for your tips! They definitely helped to clarify and break down what I should expect. Thanks for your dedication to helping us become better future teachers! I’m a life long “edventurer” now. Have a wonderful Spring Break!
Love your channel! I just finished student teaching in a 3rd grade class. Your tips were great! I am so glad you mentioned being nervous at first to teach lessons because I thought I was the only one! I was so nervous, but like you said, you just gotta do it and eventually I didn't get nervous before lessons! The kids were awesome so that helped too
Will be starting in September ,I'm alot nervous because of creativity and transitioning when the class gets noisy. These were issues I struggled with last teaching practice. It was very difficult, now I'm hoping that my final year will be my best practice. Thank you for your tips. From Jamaica
LOVE THIS! I’m finishing up my junior internship! I did seven weeks in kindergarten and I’m finishing up my time in fourth grade. It’s been an amazing experience! I can’t wait to be in my own classroom.
Thank you for this video! There is so much useful information. I am finishing my associates degree and starting my bachelors degree in elementary education. Love love love this video!
The most difficult part of getting my credential wasn’t the 9 hour student teaching days, or the 4 hours of night classes I had after each day... it was the TPA’s. Omg, more difficult than I ever imagined.
I am in highschool and i am preparing to do my internship program next year. I like to know what i am getting myself into and have somewhat of an idea of what to do.
i love your videos. Im finishing up my bachelors degree in early childhood education and starting my BA in education primary/junior in September . So excited .
I do the after school program at the moment and have 5th graders, we help with homework and I also teach them history and other topics, and coach their softball and teach dance alot I know, can you do a video or give advice on classroom management
I had my first day in my placement school today!! I am in Year 1/2 class in Melbourne, Australia. These tips were super helpful and can’t wait to get back into class tomorrow to use some of them. :)
Being a teacher is what I’m suppose to do however I’m afraid to be in front of the class. I feel ridiculous! “Just do it!” I hope it gets easier the more I do it. 😶 Thank you! You’re amazing and I love watching your channel.
I feel ya girl! I have severe anxiety and am on a daily medication for it. I am a junior and when I started out I questioned myself daily. I still do question myself sometimes, but the more I am in the classroom the more comfortable I get. I go in more than my school requires me to so I can get more acquainted with the classroom! I started a month early so now I feel at home! Just know that you are capable and if you have made it this far you have to be pretty good! Teaching is amazing and so are little kids, I am better in front of little kids because they don't judge, they love you no matter what. (:
I agree with Quinn! The best cure is to do it as much as you can because you definitely get more comfortable. I don’t know what grade you are doing but one thing that always works great for me is if I mess something up say mispronounce a word, don’t be afraid to make fun of yourself. The kids always get a kick out of it and it humanizes you. Good luck! You’ll do great Brittney.
I’m currently student teaching in Southern California! I just finished 10 weeks in a sixth grade and I’m starting my next phase in a kindergarten class. I’m starting to apply for jobs but there aren’t really any districts hiring in my area 😶 I graduate in June and I’m thinking of subbing of subbing the next school year nd applying for jobs again. I’m hoping there’s more positions next year
I LOVE your videos :)! I'm a french Canadian. I study in university to become a teacher and your tips are really useful! THANK YOU :) I finish in 1 year. I can't wait to do what I love the must :D!!!
Thank you for this video! I will be student teaching spring of 2019. I’ve always known that I wanted to teach but the closer I get the more nervous I’m getting about it. I’m starting to doubt myself that I’m going to be a good teacher. Any suggestions about getting over this feeling?
This video was so helpful! I'm currently a college sophomore in Virginia and finishing up my field placement. I've been doing my field placement in a kindergarten classroom all semester and I love it! Do you have any suggestions for how to organize/plan out your day as a student teacher and how to balance student teaching with coursework and life in general? Thanks so much for all the helpful tips!
I am super nervous! I am in my second semester of my second year, and I do my first Placement at the start of May! I will be in a Prep class (kindergarten) eeeekkk
My question is how did you stay organized when you were observing your mentor teacher like did you use a binder or a notebook to organize your notes while you were observing? Btw I’m going to be observing for the first time and I can’t wait to get started:)
Do you recommend working while going to school/student teaching? I’ll be hopefully starting my graduate program in the fall and am a bit worried about working and being in grad school.
I tend to try to figure things out on my own and don't ask questions and a teacher at my site told me I should be asking questions but I don't really have any. I feel that me not asking questions is kinda of bothering her.. any advice?
badatnames there are always questions but you might now have any until you get your own classroom. Here are some to consider: planning questions, assessment questions, how to plan centers, IEP etc
How long was your student teaching program? I am planning on student teaching this coming fall and I am not sure how long it lasts. Also, was it an everyday thing? From the start of the school day till the end?
Hi there! Loved this video. I am currently in the middle of my full-year placement. I am really struggling with some of the kid's behaviours and some aren't seeing me as one of their teachers. Do you have any advice on this situation? :)
I'm currently teaching 12/13 year old kids in this English course (it's an extra program offered by my school, I live in the Netherlands) the thing is that I have no experience in teaching at all since I'm 17 and still a student myself. I struggle to find balance between 'fun' and 'work' as the program's main purpose is to let the students experience English in a different way (as supposed to the regular English classes) and get challenged with that. Do you have any tips for me? Or maybe other experienced teachers? The last thing I want is for them to get bored especially when English can be so much fun! (I sound like such a nerd ahaha)
When would you suggest to start student teaching? I ask because I am in early childhood education and the college I go to I can start next semester at the school daycare.
Trenna Waits ummm idk my student teaching was embedded in my program so I didn’t have a choice as to when to start! I would maybe consult a counselor and see what they suggest!
I'm a senior Art Education major and I start student teaching in the fall. Were you employed at a job while student teaching? My advisor says its impossible to work while student teaching. I'm scared of quitting my part time job and not having financial stability, I already moved into my parents house and paid off my credit cards and car in preparation for being unemployed.
I am on placement at the moment (it's an observation placement/helping kids in the classroom. No actual whole class teaching yet). I tried to ask a few questions but they really didn't seem very interested in responding. They gave very short answers & ended the conversation. I was allocated Friday afternoons so I have a feeling it's because it's the end of the week and they're just tired which is fair enough. I have so many questions though! Any suggestions?
Some of these don't apply to high school or are very different. Lol. Also, the sac state program has changed sinse this video, a LOT. So many people in the program have kids and families, they've had to adjust and make things a bit easier regarding allowing time for home. It's still a LOT, but not as bad as when this was filmed.
@@EarlyEDventures the program has even changed sinse last year! It's pretty crazy. Im starting this fall at Mira Loma high and I'm super nervous. I'm hoping the program is as helpful as all the past candidates have said because though I've subbed a ton, it's very different from teaching. Anyhow.. Helpful tips, making me more excited than I was before I watched! 👍🏻😁

I start August 21st in first grade! We got this!
I will be student teaching next spring, so these tips are so helpful! Loving your channel and content.
Thank you for sharing these tips! It can get really tough, but it is honestly so worth it! Student teacher makes me even more excited to have my OWN class!
I am going to start student teaching in January. I am a little nervous because I will be teaching high school chemistry. This video really helped to ease some of my nerves.
Right now I have a field placement in kindergarten in Michigan. Love having as much advice as I can get!

I have been in the program for a year and I start my student teaching in August and graduate in December. This was SO helpful!!
love this! i'm not even close to student teaching but I watch all of these to prepare myself for when I am
smart
it is TOUGH. i am doing it my third time since 2009
Love your channel! I’m currently in an 8th grade English classroom once a week! In the fall I’ll be in a classroom twice a week and next January I’ll be in a classroom everyday! Trying to learn as much as I can before then and your videos are great for that!!!
I am currently student teaching in 8th grade (1st year of high school in Canada!) and I am loving it !
I teach as well! I’m an assistant Sunday school teacher at my church for two-year olds. I used to do preschool, though.

Another tip is to check your benefits and retirement options. I devoted my site to help other teachers with this.
Thank you so much for this video! I am a student teacher in MD graduating in May. I'm in my five day placement in a middle school special ed classroom. I appreciate all the tips as I get ready for my first year in the classroom!

I start my last semester of student teaching in a few weeks and I needed this! Thank you!
I start student teaching January 7, 2019. I'm both nervous and excited. I've been placed in a fifth grade classroom for twelve weeks.
Thank you so much for these tips! I'll be teaching 4th/5th grade English as a second language!
The most difficult part of getting my credential wasn’t the 9 hour student teaching days, or the 4 hours of night classes I had after each day... it was the TPA’s. Omg, more difficult than I ever imagined.
LOVE THIS!! Thank you so much for these tips! I'm student teaching in August and I'm thankful you took the time to share these!
This was so helpful! I've just started student teaching about two months ago and you've given me so many helpful things to think about, thank you!! :)
I had my first day in my placement school today!! I am in Year 1/2 class in Melbourne, Australia. These tips were super helpful and can’t wait to get back into class tomorrow to use some of them. :)
YASSS LOVE. I was waiting for this video.
Get some rest over spring break!
Best advice I've heard. This video is on replay-- thank you so much. New subscriber!!!
Thank youuuuuu!!!!!!
First semester elementary ed student!
I start student teaching in September 😭 I’m so nervous. But thanks to this video I know I just have to do it!
Being a teacher is what I’m suppose to do however I’m afraid to be in front of the class. I feel ridiculous! “Just do it!” I hope it gets easier the more I do it. 😶
Thank you!
Quinn Kantner thank you for your genuine comment. Good luck to you!
Dusty Buck thank you. That’s a great tip! Good luck to you.
What types of things did you bring everyday for student teaching? Like things you put in your purse?
Hi! I’m starting student teaching this semester in a kindergarten classroom, thank you so much for this information !😊😃
Needed this video 💕 I am towards the end of my student teaching in 3rd grade!
You give a lot of really good, practical advice. I love it!
Thank you for your video! Very helpful! I think behaviour management is the hardest thing for me and I would love it if you did a video.
Hows it going?:)
My question is how did you stay organized when you were observing your mentor teacher like did you use a binder or a notebook to organize your notes while you were observing? Btw I’m going to be observing for the first time and I can’t wait to get started:)
KittyStarr10 just a color coded notebook 🤗
Early EDventures thanks for the tips that you have given in this video and I will definitely be using a notebook instead of a binder
So helpful, thank you for sharing your tips!
Do you recommend working while going to school/student teaching? I’ll be hopefully starting my graduate program in the fall and am a bit worried about working and being in grad school.
Aileen Santiago I had to work. It was tough but I made it through!
I'm starting my student teaching assignment in 8th grade tomorrow!
I suuuuuuper needed to see this video!!! thank you so much!!!!!
I'm going to my 1st placement this morning. I'm so nervous!! I have 3rd grade
Graduate in fall..so excited♡♡♡
What kind of questions did you ask while student teaching?
Thank you! This is so helpful!!
Hahaha I LOVE you!!
Any tips for the CSET Multiple Subjects exam? Love your channel!
Carrie Chase oh god that test! I would suggest taking them separately. And study!
Do you get to pick your mentor teacher or does your professor choose what school and who your mentor teacher is?
I am on placement at the moment (it's an observation placement/helping kids in the classroom. No actual whole class teaching yet). I tried to ask a few questions but they really didn't seem very interested in responding. They gave very short answers & ended the conversation. I was allocated Friday afternoons so I have a feeling it's because it's the end of the week and they're just tired which is fair enough. I have so many questions though! Any suggestions?
Student teaching in sped this fall. So, nervous.
its my First year of Student Teaching i am going to be Teaching High School Grades of 9th 10th 11th and 12th Grade
How long is student teaching?
and what grade level did you have for student teaching?
I'm so stressed. I'm starting day after tomorrow and my anxiety is up the roof
That’s fair lol. I made this over 5 years ago, so I’m glad to here things have changed in 5 years
@@EarlyEDventures the program has even changed sinse last year! 👍🏻😁
👍
I start student teaching in 9 days! Aah
