  • Stewart BC is a town that shouldn't exist. It was started by accident by a swindler who tricked a bunch of people searching for a route to the yukon gold fields. Stranded, isolated, and abandoned, the gold seekers settled in the region and found many treasures. At the end of the Cassiar Highway 37 driving past glaciers, Stewart is a deep sea port used for shipping and connects to the Alaska Highway in the north.
We go and explore Stewart on the northern BC coast and the area. It borders the Alaskan panhandle with the town of Hyder Alaska. On the way to the salmon glacier, we pass back into British Columbia and see a bunch of hard rock gold mines. The road up to the glacier weaves along cliffs and through the clouds, offering us world-class views of the mountians and icefield.
We stop at the salmon glacier and look at the glaciology involved with this formation and look at some examples of other glaciers. High up in the clouds, we can see all the way to Alaska.

My wife and I drove up to salmon glacier in a Ford Taurus car about 15 years ago. Well worth the drive.
