Resident of a Town Half Forgotten. Stewart British Columbia. Destination Adventure

- I have been visiting Stewart, BC for years now, and each visit becomes a little more special. This town might have the richest history and the highest concentration of adventure, of any location I have ever had the pleasure of visiting. Nestled deep in the valley, at the end of the Portland Canal, surrounded by glaciers and mountains, 2 KM from Alaska, Stewart today is only a skeleton of what it once was, but it was once quite a thriving town.
Like most of these old towns, Stewart started with a pursuit of the elusive Gold. In the height of the boom, Stewart and Hyder were a hub for the countless mines covering the mountains around. As well, like most gold rush towns, most that came to Stewart never found their riches. If you're brave enough to hike your way up and explore the mountains, there are many old mines and portals left exactly how they were when the old timers left them. Most went broke, some made a living, and a small handfull made a fortune.
As they years went by, the population climbed and fell, but amazingly Stewart never became a complete ghost town. Several large mines have brought large growth to the town, but none have yet found sustainability. Never the less, things do look good for Stewart in the future. In the past decade, exploration has been extensive, but this visit was the first where I saw a mine in production.
History aside, Stewart is a great town to visit if you have access to a boat, because it is the gateway to the beautiful Portland Canal. On the north side of the canal is Alaska, and the south side is Canada, each with amazing views, great fishing and exceptional adventure opportunities.
Very happy to have had another great adventure in Stewart, and stoked to be sharing it with all of you.

Nothing puts a bigger smile on my face than seeing someone catch fish with lures we've provided 😁🐟🎣
Nice catches Emi and Dustin!
Thank you for helping them out.
@@larrybutler2807 it's our pleasure! We love his channel and want to see him succeed, so we are helping in anyway we can 😁
Thanks so much for the winning lures. :)
@@Destination_Adventure you're welcome!
2 years ago, you did a video on Hyder, Stewart and the Salmon glacier. I was looking for an epic destination for my 50th birthday. Within a few months, Itchy Boots passed through there as well. That was it. So in August of 2023, I left Ontario on my motorcycle, with Stewart BC as my destination. I stayed in Stewart for 2 nights and I tell ya.... there is something magical about that place. Nestled in the bay, shadowed by the surrounding mountains...... just beautiful. I stopped in many places across all the provinces and Stewart was the hardest to leave. The quiet pace and serenity was just what any adventurer needs. Thank you Dustin for the inspiration. Safe travels.
Itchy boots is awesome, I'm still catching up on her Alaska run (SE6)...quite the run coming from Ontario for you.
Itchy boots is AMAZING!
I’m happy to hear you got to enjoy Stewart. :)
I'm sad Itchy Boots had her accident in Africa.. I hope she is doing well... miss her vids
Thank you for taking us along on another great adventure. You've taken us here before, but I certainly don't mind seeing it again ❣️
My parents moved to Stewart in 1954. I was born there along with two of my sisters. We moved to Terrace in 1963. Mary was a friend of my parents. My oldest sister was the May Queen that year.
I just talked to my older sister, she said that Kasum's owned the house my family rented before moving to Terrace. Mary would certainly remember the Foote family.
Seeing Emi experience things for maybe the first time is so fun. I love her laugh and to see you both just enjoying yourselves is great. Stay safe have fun.
That’s what I came here to say. She is a great addition to DA. Her excitement and laughter is refreshing. Thanks again for my vicarious adventure this weekend, Dustin.
Emi is such a trooper. Not very many girls would be so adventurous as her. My hats off to her. 🤗❤️ 🎩
Oh to be young again... Thanks Dustin and Emmi for the wonders you two provide.
Population 401... Wishing I could make it 402. What a beauty place! Happy Birthday to the lovely elder. What a SweetHeart ~
Excellent video, Dustin.
I really enjoyed the time I got to spend with you and Emi. Thank you for being you. Keep doing what you're doing.
I love it.
D'Arcy
Always great to hear the stories from locals, it looks like peaceful living.
I love when Emi screams and laughs, it's hilarious 🤣
Another great half an hour of D&E acting as our eyes and ears.
The sound I hear when you're laughing together is a good one.
Stay safe.
Dustin, I hope you never change a thing. The adventures to the most majestic scenery, the music that fits it perfectly, your interviews with locals including personal history, and your footage of it all. Entertainment at it's best, thankful for your dedication to bring all of this to us!❤
Thank you very much. 😊
Dustin I really enjoyed this video. Back in 1970 my family move to Stewart for a year. We traveled up on the Northland Prince. I was 6 years old, one of 6 children. I remember clearly the top notch service with waiters at each table, towels draped over their arms. We were such a large family we had 2 cabins and my older siblings were on their own. Then the adventure of living there. This video brought back so many memories. Thank you 🙏
I remember that too ,well dressed waiters with the towel,I was about the same age and once the waiter new I liked apple juice there was a glass waiting for me at every meal. Thanks for bringing back that memory :)
"THERE'S A WHALE COMING AFTER THE SHRIMP!!!....probably just some seaweed" love it.
Thank you again Emi and Dustin for bringing us along on your adventures ❤
Thank you Captain Emi, and Dustin for another amazing adventure into Stewart, I always love seeing that area.
Saturday morning, before I have to go to work, and watching one of my favorite UA-camrs is always a treat.
Great stories from the locals Beautiful wilderness. Spoting the Bald Eagles sparked a memory of mine. In 1978 in Yakutat, Alaska l had been fishing in the Yakutat Bay. We where on a fishing boat a mile off shore. Circling some 100 feet above us was a Bald Eagle. Minutes later this Bald Eagle dives into the ocean and grabs a Salmon. Then flies away with his meal. Truely remarkable how powerful these birds really are. Thank you for sharing.
I can never say this enough, every video you do gets better, Truly remarkable. I love mountains, living in Louisiana, I don't see mountians. Your channel makes me love them more. I am loving this season more and more with you and Emi. Thank you both!
Come on up dear neighbor!!!
Thank you so much.
Amazingly beautiful BC! Awesome photography. Love how you showcase the locals. Makes the videos more personal to hear the history.
Hey, guess what? It's Saturday! Dustin and Emmi! Dustin! You don't stop. Thank you, i always shed a tear of joy at random spots in every video you make.
Me too

The jump into the boat was epic!
Thank you Dustin, what incredible interviews with great people and such stunning scenery
"all you need is a pound of butter and a frying pan and away you go." ❤ Words to live by for sure. Another Great adventure.
So great to see a picture of the Northland Prince, traveled on her many times from Ocean Falls to Vancouver. You had to either fly or take the "Prince".
Love these adventures Dustin goes on, the stories from the locals really brings to light of how life was, you could almost feel as if you were ounce there. I so look forward the every new story you provide us, thank you for showing us your world and adventures
Man, I love the interviews! This dropped at 10.30pm last night here in Tasmania, just as I was getting ready to crash out. I thought about watching, and thought “Nope, it’s your Sunday morning coffee watch….don’t spoil that!” And I’m glad I waiting. 5.30am, coffee and another Destination Adventure, adventure!
Great work, mate!
Thank you very much. 😊
I think Emi has found her grove. She looks so relaxed and happy in this week's adventure
I spent a week there in the late 80's what a beautiful place and the Salmon Berries are delicious.
One of my favorite episodes yet.
The shot that Emi got of you diving into the boat was priceless, and also her driving the boat and you flying the drone was awesome!
Tip for shrimping, when circumstances allow, try to pull the pots/traps every tide. The shrimp can swim out of the traps at slack water.
I am so stoked to follow your adventures this summer!! Gonna try to pull off a secret/hidden boat beer delivery, a "Dave" so to speak, at some point if circumstances allow!
You are absolutely crushing it, keep up the phenomenal work Dustin!
We have made it up there three times. Cassiar to Tuk twice and full length of the Alcan and side bar to Tuk once. Each time doing the Cassiar we have gone to Stuart/Hyder and up to Salmon glacier. Now three things prevent me from doing it ever again. My wife is done with that particular trip, I'm having some medical crap and we both are probably too old. So, again, many thanks for taking me along. Tell Em to keep the rod tip pointing up.
I grew up in this town. Left in 1997, still miss it. Much simpler life up there to be sure.
Spectacular
Thanks for sharing, glad to see you have someone with you to enjoy your adventures
And she's beautiful ❤
17:19 The Master prawner: rarely gives bad advice. Nice haul for this time of year.
That was a stunning video! I will never get to go to the places you take me, thanks so much for sharing.
I spent a week or so in Stewart in the fall of 94. I needed tires for my fifth wheel and the plan was to visit Hyder but I didn’t make it. I stayed at a campground that was ran by a civic organization back in the trees. The people were friendly and helpful, I had to air up my tires every other day. I had a 15’ Coleman canoe and had a local that wanted to buy it until he found out it wasn’t a square stern. It might be fun to just spend some time there again.
Best part of a video is watching truly happy people enjoying a beautiful day with breathtaking scenery.
Great to see you and Emme having such a blast out fishing and enjoying the beautiful landscape. Would love to know if you have been teaching her some Canadian 🤣🤣
After watching the video I felt I needed to get some extra merch to help you purchase some new crab traps. Great video as always. Thanks again.
Coffee, breakfast pizza, and a new Destination Adventure video. My Saturday morning is complete!
Sounds like perfection to me 😅🎉
Knocked it out of the park again! Thanks for the great interviews with Mary and Darcy. I thoroughly enjoyed that. Wishing Mary a happy birthday, what an inspiration! Beautiful tour of the Portland Canal and waterfalls and derelict buildings. 10/10
Of all your adventures, I’ve fallen in love with Stewart. We live on Whidbey Island, in Washington State, and this South Louisiana gal never thought she’d feel more at home in the Pacific Northwest than in the Southern US but there it is. My husband, who isn’t on social media, wanted me to comment on how wonderfully healthy and robust Emmi is looking! I agree. And her laughter is magical. Thank you both.
It’s so beautiful to see how you two make each other smile 😊
Man, this was a super good episode. I could feel your love for everything you were doing!
Emi is just adorable. Such a great addition to your channel. Only a 2 day 3 hour drive from my home. Adding this to my bucket list for retirement next year. Thank you for a future adventure.
Happy weekend everyone 😊👍

Great vid today! You have helped us decide on adventure this year for our holidays. Heading north to Tuk then swing into Alaska and down through Hwy 37.
Your production value is always amazing!
Thank you very much.
Great scenery, stories and adventure. You have a wonderful ability to capture the experience and share it with others visually, audibly, and spiritually. Thanks for another excellent one Dustin!

Awesome scenery Dustin
Great video, I enjoy waking up Saturday morning and watching your videos . They are a real eye opener to the beautiful country we live in .
Interesting when you chat with the locals. Never forget when I was in Coast Guard and we did the Inland Passage. Most of my career was big cities like New Orleans, Seattle, SF, LA. It was refreshing to see the planet wasn't all concrete and buildings. Your videos remind me of how big this planet is.
What a beautiful country friend's and great video thank you and please keep the great videos coming friends. From Scotland 😊🎉🎉
Dustin, we’ve been watching your adventures for a few years now. Since the insanity of Covid and you losing your job.
These videos are a glimpse into our province and although I’ve been around it a bit I haven’t been around like this. Makes me want to retire and go.! Cheers to you sir on venturing out and taking a chance on a channel like this. Your gamble has paid off for so many. Cheers
Thank you very much.

Missed my Saturday morning coffee and Destination Adventure this morning, as we were out of town with friends. But the first thing that we got back home and sitting down I turned on UA-cam to see this weeks adventure, You never disappoint with your production, and this one was great! Great to see those expert fishing skills really paying off for you both! Keep up the great work, and safe travels to you both!
Again, such beautiful coverage of an incredible area! You continue to amaze me with your videos 💖
Every time you're there, the scenery is so captivating, it's like the first time, and I can't look away from my screen! It's so beautiful, majestical, and breathtaking! And if you get to see Mary before you leave Stewart, please wish her a happy birthday from us!

I love all the finer nuanced details you share about places. Learned lots about Stewart from this video! Great work as always.
Thanks for the memories, I was on the Northland prince in 1976 . Such a great trip for a 16 year old, I was on the ship with a group of young people who were exploring the BC coast we even got Hyderized . Thanks for doing this video .
Very Awesome, Dustin and Emi thanks again for another great Saturday morning 😊
Went up on a fishing trip, our guide was a Arrow driver, fuel to Cassiar, ore back, loaded onto barges for Aisia.
My buddy took 2 Hyder shots, didnt wake up til almost Fraser Valley, rolled around the camper floor, sleeping it off.
Memories, nice fishing then, love the drive up there now, road was much improved, favorite goat hunting spot up the hiway, keeping it a secret, never a hike without a goat. Lots of bears too.

Wow, a way of life that is almost lost now. Most could not appreciate what it took to live out there "back in the day", and even now. Takes a special type of person. Thanks so much for introducing us these lovely people!
