- 23 MARANTA VARIETIES | ALL ABOUT MARANTA | PRAYER PLANTS | HERB STORIES
Although calathea and maranta are popularly known as prayer plants, most varieties of calathea show little or no “praying” behavior. Marantas are the true prayer plants. Calathea and maranta are native to the tropical parts of Central and Latin America. They are both tropical understory plants that thrive in nearly the same environmental conditions.
Maranta is much more forgiving than calathea when it comes to tolerating the cold so it’ll thrive well if you live in cold regions.
** For plant misidentification, please feel free to comment if you are 100% correct. Thank you so much Herbie friends! God Bless us all and you guys keep safe always. **

1) Leuconera Lemon Lime; 2) L.Massangeana; 3) L.Light Veins; 4) Arundinacea Variegated (nr.20). Some of them you'd swear are Calathea's (or Goappertia's).
I know, the Mint variety looks like a miniature Ctenanthe setosa, I forgot the name… not ‘Grey Star’, but the lighter-colored leaf one…and many seem to resemble Medallions, orbifolia, and some ornatas! One at the end even looked like Stromanthe sanguinea a bit.
Amabilis looks super close to Makoyana or ‘Freddy,’ right? 😂
@@erikm8372 very very super close, I'd say
I love all of them 😍😍😍😍
Thank you so much
@@HerbStories Let's go 😍❤️😘

There’s no way I’m going to be able to tell you which varieties I like the names are impossible for me to spell.🌸💚🙃
lol! Thanks!
Leuconeura mint, Leuconeura amabilis, cristata silver sheen, arundinacea variegated, are not maranta.
Cristata intense mgiht just be an edited photo.....??
I need to know where to buy them, so beautiful!!!
Try online store like Amazon or which available to your place.

I'M SERIOUS ABOUT FOUNDING OUT THE NAME, PLEASE RESPOND BACK 💯
Wait, is arundinacea Ctenanthe lubbersiana?!
Ctenanthe is different .. see you my next video
Many pictures showing the wrong plant and many synonyms for the same plant e.g. lemon lime and Marisela
Thanks for this
Philodendron Varieties not climb Herb !! 🙂
Thank you for this Erlan!
I never realized how much some of them resemble calathea, too. As far as the colors and patterning… It’s like there is a maranta doppelgänger for each variety of calathea / goeppertia. The ‘Mint’ maranta almost resembles a short Ctenanthe setosa ‘Gray Star’, and some of them are very close to Calathea medallion. Crazy.
It’s a big order/family of plants, the different but related genus of ginger, galangal, turmeric, cardamom, arrowroot, canna, calathea, stromanthe, ctenanthe, maranta…! Oh yeah, plus bananas, heliconia, & bird-of-paradise (strelitzia)?! 😂Blows my mind and then I start to see the similarities! Canna edulis is the edible rhizome form of canna. Much like a potato. I wonder if all canna can be cooked that way, if it’s organically grown…anyway it’s good to know they’re all pet-friendly 💁🏼♂️😅
I will also update my calathea soon to see the difference☺️
