    That contraption is a band director’s savior for stuck mouthpieces. I’ve used that thing 12 times as a student teacher.

    I would've probably just let the instrument fall mouthpiece first to the floor since that seems to be the common practice with kids these days but I guess you took it to the next level. So thumbs up for that :D

    I bought a similar one on Aliexpress, cost about $6. and worked first time on my friend's vintage/antique cornet. Never use a hammer or any other force, these tools are the ONLY way to get the job done effortlessly. Also, I love wingnuts, so it gets an extra 5 stars from me.

    Once had to use one of those in band when I dropped my trumpet. Didn’t know how to use it so I ended up pulling it out using the extra leverage. I wish I knew back then, because pulling out takes way too much effort XD.

    Perfect for band directors dealing with elementary school students or the intellectual equivalent!
    If you ever get your hands on a cheap, say, flugelhorn mouthpieces, that might be really interesting.

    Looks like a copy of the "Bobcat" mouthpiece puller, i have a bobcat puller and it works amazingly well on any instrument from Soprano cornet to BBb bass.
    This looks like a great money saving alternative (My Bobcat cost £50 a few years ago), my only niggle is the small wings on the bolts you turn to pull the mp. It would be much easier if they where bigger. other than that it seems a decent enough tool that all band rooms should have access to :)

    This is a copy of the bobcat mouthpiece puller design. Best design in my opinion if you are only going to have one tool to do this job. Glad I have it from my instrument repair days now that my son is playing french horn in band.

    Life hack for all y’all, if your mouthpiece is ever stuck, get ice cubes and let the ice cubes melt not fully but some and with a dry firm hand twist out. If it still doesn’t come out, then fine but a mouthpiece remover such as this one.

  • @JonatasMonte
    @JonatasMonte 6 років тому +2

    Won't it damage the instrument though?

    • @JonatasMonte
      @JonatasMonte 6 років тому

      I'm asking it because brass is so flimsy that sometimes I fear I might bend it with my hands.

    • @BrandoMan
      @BrandoMan 6 років тому

      JonatasMonte Ive seen it used before, it might leave a little scuff, but I doubt anything else

    • @Disgreetful
      @Disgreetful 6 років тому

      JonatasMonte the only part of the instrument it really touches is the end of the leadpipe, and only the side where the hole it, which probably gets hit a few times from putting a mouthpiece in anyway

    • @Disgreetful
      @Disgreetful 6 років тому +1

      JonatasMonte also, the pulling goes straight out, so the only way you're damaging the instrument is if you start stretching the leadpipe. If that's the case, that mouthpiece has become King Arthur's Sword, and you'll need a new instrument. Or just a professional, or something

  • @crimsun7186
    @crimsun7186 6 років тому

    Considering the tool works the way it does, one can see that remover both denting the mouthpiece and the lead pipe while you try to remove it. You get not much torque on the top with wing screws with wings that small.

      It is good for getting mouthpieces out of really old beat up instruments. I brought my trombone from the 1960s to school to get the mouthpiece out a year or two ago. I wouldn't use it on a nice instrument, but it's great for old instruments or instruments in bad shape.

    • @TWX1138
      @TWX1138 6 років тому

      Doesn't sound like it was being used correctly. It's not supposed to clamp around the leadpipe, it's supposed to clamp around the mouthpiece tube and press on the end of the leadpipe. If it were going to damage the leadpipe it would be by denting the end of the leadpipe.

    • @jasonbusky
      @jasonbusky 6 років тому

    Someone decided to prank me by making the mouthpiece hard to get out, they did too well a job. A mouthpiece remover like the one in the video (Higher quality though) did not work. It had to be machine pulled out. This was on a euphonium.
