Elizabeth Edersheim Hi, I look forward to that! My most recent Bach trumpet mouthpiece is the 5V. Having played it for awhile now,I believe it takes awhile ,I really am impressed and get the full range with this deep V shape Bach.

I just got my new Bach 3C with a gold-plated rim because the rim on my silver 7C tarnished from my saliva.

Fascinating video! Does anyone know exactly what metals Bach trombone mouthpieces are made from please? We are trying to investigate a possible allergy...

      HSTmiranda brass

The body of the mouthpiece is made from brass, but it is then plated in sterling silver. Sometimes brass particles come through the silver and can cause an alergy. Try stainless steel or gold plated mouthpieces.

I know this is an old comment, but if a trombonist is having a reaction it is most likely the nickel from the slide of the trombone

If you are having trouble with nickel poisoning you may contact the company and see exactly what materials they are using or have used depending on the age of your mouthpiece. I do not believe the nickel is coming off of the inner slides. Be sure to check if the plating is wearing off and make sure to thoroughly clean your mouthpiece/mouthpieces with a dish soap and make sure to use a polishing cloth of some sort afterwards inside the cup of the mouthpiece. I hope this helps!

Those tool passes are so precise, have to imagine there's a computer involved. How would this have been done historically, I wonder?

      Mark Louie with molds perhaps?

It looks like they have a template shape that they follow, see at 00:17. The machine copies the shape, but with different cutting bits attached. A bit like when you get a spare key made: the key shape is used as a model, and the machine just copies it.

      Probably a CNC machine.

For sure a cnc lathe. The cutter at 0.17 is a template cutter they use to remove most of the material so the cnc tools don’t wear that quick and to save time.

THERE IS NOTHING WRONG WITH PLAYING BACH MOUTHPIECES IF YOU ARE LOOKING FOR THAT BIG, RO IT ND TEUTONIC TONE AS VINCENT BACH DESCRIBED IT. PROVIDED YOU FIND THE SIZE THAT FITS YOY AND WHAT YOUR PLAYING. IF YOUR ARE HOLDING DOWN 2ND CHAIR AND YOUR CONDUCTOR WANTS YOU TO ATAIN A SOUND THAT APPROACHES YOUR PRINCIPAL TRUMPET IN SOUND AND VOLUME, YET NOT OVERTAKE HIM OR HER, THEN YOURE LOOKING FOR A 1 1/2 OR 1 3/4 C.

I guess that's what's wrong with them then they were made for 100 years ago when they played in a different time I guess that's why Monette kick ass, they are still adapting
