- So Combo Breaker has finished up and we have a new Tekken 8 gameplay trailer, this time for our latest up and coming DLC Character, Lidia Sobieska, the karate prime minister of Poland! Lots of interesting gameplay changes in both her moveset changing up, and a bunch of all new moves(and a stance too) so lets dig into it and figure it all out!

So hey, Lidia Tekken 8 trailer dropped! So lets do the thing we always do around here and break it all down to all the most minute details. Lidia got a bunch of all new stuff, some existing stuff got interesting tweaks, and just looking kinda cool all around! So give the vid a watch, like if ya liked it, and let me know what you think! ***EDIT*** at about 5m30s in where i call stance 3 a power crush, I mean heat engager thats why I talked about the flame. To sucker punch someone is to attack without warning or provocation for it which is what Reina did. It does not mean to just punch.
Glad someone pointed this out. I do martial arts and if someone did what Reina did in a sanctioned fight or sparring she would absolutely get called out for sucker punching.

In regards to the sucker punching i think Lidia was a bit peeved over Reina's lack of etiquette whereas Jin bowed respectfully before engaging she just went in
Sucker punch definition is "an unexpected punch or blow". Reina is talking and in the middle of her sentence she attacks. So it qualifies as a sucker punch.

Well, with these values Poland would be lucky to have a prime minister like this. Any countries would, especially in recent times. I just wonder what is Namco trying to say by creating such a specifically politically driven character which has nothing to do with the main Tekken storyline.

Around 6:34 Reina attacked her mid-conversation. That was indeed a dirty tactic/suckerpunch.
In the cult classic bloodsport, Paco attacks Frank Dux mid fistbump. Both are suckerpunches.

Her voice acting is batter in T8 but it's still hard to make out what she is saying, even for a polish person. Her audio is way too quiet.

Agreed. I had Mrs. Eijiken (who is Polish) listen and she had to listen twice, but it is MUCH clearer than in T7
I assume you must be talking about her in-game quotes because in her intros I could understand her perfectly fine but prior to reading your comment I had no idea she was even saying anything when she was parrying Jin lol
Ah, so that explains why she's breaking ice. It's a nod to her being able to break armor moves. Didn't realize that till just now.

Tried to translate as much of the notes as I could. The ones closer to the center are really hard to read - the perspective and lighting aren't helping.

...ego smaka - hard to say exactly but I'm gonna say it's likely something along the lines of "I'm getting hungry just looking at it" or "I had a real sweet tooth that time". Smak means taste but you don't see it written "smaka" in any other context than "mieć smaka" which more or less means "to crave".

4:25 The low into mid in the wolf stance was one of her rage drives only doable in this stance in T7. It's the same animation.
The stalking wolf low into the follow up chop used to be her second Rage Drive
Actually in polish Lidia doesn't even mention sucker punches, she just calls her a coward lmao
I think tekken team done poor translation in some places. For few days on steam page Lida had her last name with male pronouns. It was Lidia Sobieski (male) instead of Lidia Sobieska (female)
Actually she does, she says “only cowards do this” and by “this” she means throwing sucker punches. How else and better they could translate it so it would fit 2 seconds animation?

@@kingmanga8575 Only few if I think correctly, I didn't thought about it. it comes naturally for me. For example, if father is Frank Sobieski, and he has a daughter named Elisa, her whole name would be Elisa Sobieska. And if Frank had last name Mickiewicz, daughter name would be also Mickiewicz.

Barring anymore news or trailer drops the sf6 Akuma guide should be next! Pretty happy with the guide as its shaping up so far, I got lots and lots of goodies for you in it! After thats done... I dunno lol. Will remake some old character guides more than likely for Season 2 of SF6, I do got a trip coming up in about a weekish where ill be gone for a few days so that will slow things down, but I think you will be happy with the results of the trip

And Powercrush launchers were a thing in T7 with hwoarang Backlash, Negan f1+2 iirc, and probably others that i already forgot
lili also had a powercrush launcher in t7. and of course, akuma
Armor breakers certainly aren't common outside of Heat Burst, Heat Smash, and Rage Arts. I know the recent balance patch turned Bryan's 3+4, 2 armor break when fully charged.
Looks like we can expect more armored launchers in the future. Zafina's Scarecrow 4 worked that way in both T7 and 8. These are gonna be fun to use and deal with, lol!

Great breakdown. She looks even better after watching, but potentially 5 stances is crazy. I'm gonna hate myself trying to pick her up I feel. People say she wasn't too hard to play in T7, but I hear "stance heavy" thrown a lot too which is super scary.

Stalking wolf low followup was in T7 but it was a 2nd rage drive. I'm VERY surprised this isn't just a low heat smash
6:23 There's a saying in shotokan karate teaching (which is what Lidia practices) that goes like 'There is no such thing as a first strike in karate.' Now this phrase is hella vague and there are multiple ways to interpret it but I guess Lidia takes it as an etiquette thing

Yeah, you're right. Is there a way to turn that garbage off? I want to see the characters fighting without it being lost behind the ridiculous supernovas of particle goo that they put in these games without allowing us to decide for ourselves if we want it on or off.
If they saved those for special chi power attacks or something then ok, but even just trading jabs triggers a fireworks display.

The stance into 4 which used to knock down on 7 the follow-up on here is just her rage drive from 7. The second hit would ch launch i believe

Interesting observation about the Power Crush breaking mid.
As a visual cue Guard Breaks always have that cracked screen effect but in this case you'll notice that when Lidia breaks Reina's Power Crush there's a new Pink Shatter effect immediately.
Obviously it's in heat but this could be the first of new Heat specific Power Crush breaking moves as a new system mechanic for either one or both of the next characters in the Roadmap.

I'm looking forward to playing Lidia. I generally gravitate towards characters that have more defensive options rather than offensive characters.
Of course, with Tekken 8 being more aggressive-minded, the defensive options I like in this game isn't so much turtling, but having great movement, punishment, counter-hit threats, etc.
I'm currently using Jin because I like his pokes, keep out counterhit tools, and parry, but planning to use Lidia as my secondary character, as long as she isn't overpowered.

First Season of Tekken 8 the DLC characters are not that bad but they are not that Hype train either. Hopefully next future Seasons of Tekken 8 will be better

The Stage lighting is amazing by the way, lidia is a fun to play new character from T7, and it's good to see her coming back to T8, the charater models in T8 are in another level, i'd love to see Eliza because her gameplay is unique, Julia for nostalgia and Bruce or Fahkumram for pure Muay thai character, and if possible a KOF and a Street Fighter Charater.

When Lidia beats Reina's armor the hit effect that happens is a completely new one, so I'm guessing Lidia gets a straight up "armor break" mechanic on some of her moves while in Heat.
It's going to be a pain learning her, but at least you still need higher brain function to use her, as opposed to another dlc character where you can just smash your face into the controller to play.
That was definitely a sucker punch. She tried to catch her off guard while she wasn't ready. If you did that in a combat sport you'd be disqualified.

Re: The sucker punch. Lidia seems to be the kind of person who cares about formalities and Reina attacked before their match had formally started. In American vernacular, it might be more accurate to call that a cheap shot, though it's a subtle distinction.

About this sucker punch thing. Many people already commented that it just mean unexpected attack, but I would also like to add, that this is just differences in translation to specific languages. Idk how is this translated in Japanese version, but in Polish she is just saying "Only cowards are doing that/acting like that".
As a pole all I can say is that Lidia is a Prime Minister we all need but do not deserve.
I know people meme on her being the POLISH PRIME MINISTER, I myself enjoy the joke. But it is nice to get some Poland reps. Like I literally cannot think of any other character that is Polish, unless there is some in DoA

Rooflemonger can you raise some awareness for why some moves still have Tekken 3 animations? Like Kazuya spinning kicks that twist his body like a towel? Or Hworang kicks which make his head float away from his body? Why is no one holding Namco to a higher standard

I gotta say, Lidia is the best looking character in Tekken so far, design wise. Her looks perfectly reflect her style of Karate as well as her disciplined personality. Her Gi and her black compression shirt undetneath, tell us she's here to kick ass in a highly disciplined manner, but the contrasting red/magenta design on her Gi, also tell us she is somewhat of a dual-nature but contained within the confines and control of her discipline, which is also reflected in her rage art!.....Everything about her screams discipline, but there's also a little girl inside that wants to enjoy life!
Reina's design is also really cool. It reflects her dark and rebelious personality perfectly....The problem is, Reina is everything Asuka should've been, which honestly kinda renders Asuka useless. Asuka was supposed to be the rebelious tomboy in T8, if they developed her character properly. Rather, they relegated her story to some girl-beef with Lili.
Azucena is another character that is very well designed. Everything about her says she's a coffee junky who wants to party and burn caloties
Next autumn for tekken 8 Marduk i can't wait play also new dlc story and stage please
she looks balanced i some ways and borderline broken seems fun
but them lows attacks look way too fast. She can easily trip with a kick doesn't have to have to be a hell sweep or even have to be a counter hit she can just do it from the gekco

Never played a character with any significant stance mechanics (Alisa's chainsaws aren't anything like this) but intend to main Lidia when she drops. Perhaps I should start messing with a character now who does more stance stuff or even go download 7 again and mess with Lidia there a bit so I'm not trying to learn a new character and a style I've never really played in a game.
It is a sucker punch or a bum rush, they didn’t square up. They would bow or ready their stance, then fight. Reina rushed her mid sentence.
I'm not excited to face this character again 😭. Also I hope the next character gets me excited to buy the season pass. I'm hoping for bruce, josie, fauk, jinpachi, heck why not mix it up with wang.

So glad to see my girl back and looking as powerful as ever. Its a shame she's DLC twice in a row but I guess I'm just happy she's back at all, she really deserved to be.
