Thank you. Yes there's a few less boxes to tick on my channel but the content is no different. Adorama a just awesome when it comes to "control" of what they commission 👍
Hey Gavin! one day of you ever get bored, would you consider making a video about white balance and color checker cards? I know there are a few on UA-cam already but the way you teach things is the best!
Super as ever Gavin. - I don’t think you mentioned it but love the repeating pattern of Sophie’s dress cf the floor. The tying together of props and other elements in a shoot in this way (and usually colour palette too) was something that it took ages for me to learn and you seem to just do instinctively. Now I have learnt a more wholistic approach One little trick I use now sometimes on these sort of set ups is to hang a picture frame on the wall into which I add an alternate shot from my shoot in post - just makes for an interesting ‘prop’
Thanks Peter. Sophie was onboard with the idea from the start and gave a lot of input on the look. As always a good model and MUA bring more than just their "on the day" skills 😉
Hello Gavin, please leave the outlets in your small home studio. These little things are the things most of us struggle with, after all. It’s nice to watch a video, that wasn’t taken in a perfect, glamorous professional studio.
"This is my very first flash" ....... hilarious ...... me too and I still press them into use sometimes. Lovely video as always. Nice to see Sofie laughing out of "model" mode.
Excellent overview of how to create this 60s vibe - love the subject and love the accompanying music!! Perhaps slow down a bit on the explaining in photoshop so we don't have to pause it so much! 🙂. Please do show the print being hung on the wall when it arrives!
I loved this shoot! I have often wondered about that wall socket - it would really annoy me, but then again I would be over the moon to have a dedicated studio space “plugs and all”!
If I didn't use the sockets for things other then portraits I'd probably have removed them long ago. Yes they annoy me too and they are 100% going... One Day 😉
The Dress, sunglasses and Vespa made this a very cool Mod '60's Bailey type shoot. West Sussex makes it a bit more (DCI) Barnaby Street than Carnaby Street though.😄
Another fantastic shoot, Love your photoshop skills...years of practice I suppose. Look forward to seeing this retro style photo on the wall. Thank you for the small home studio tour, nice to see how you work in this small space. Take care...
Hi Mike. Thanks for the kind words, I think it's almost 25 years of Photoshop practice. Photoshop 4 was my first version which I got on 4 floppy discs 😲
Great video. I really enjoy all of your work. You come up with some very interesting ideas for your photos. What do you do with all the photos to take? Have a big portfolio?
Great video as always.. I was wondering , How do you determine the f stop your going to use ? Is there any formula , or reason you use a certain one .? Thanks again
Thanks Gino. The flooring rolls up, so installation and removal took just a few seconds. Storing the huge roll in my small studio is a bit tricky however!
@@GavinHoey Gavin, the addition of the vertical stripes in post also made quite a difference. Great idea! I must add that your work really inspires me to try sessions in my own “small home studio” Thanks again
I never understand why you clone out things like the plug sockets when using the patch tool is so much faster and easier. This is especially true if the light on the wall isn't even. Thanks for all of your wonderful videos, I've learned so much from them over the years.
Hi Mike. I mostly used the Healing Brush which runs on basically the same engine as the Patch Tool. They all have their place, the key is knowing what each can and can't do 😉
Thanks for posting Gavin, and also the quick tour of your space. Did you consider using a breeze for hair movement or that wasn't what you were going for? Regardless love watching you work especially since I am a OLY shooter.
I sure love your videos!! Always informative and entertaining. Was wondering with that cool floor layout if you took any frames from a low perspective to exaggerate the floor?
They don't ship to the UK. :( Can you tell us which UK labs are good (and not too expensive) as I would like to make some wall art- Digitalab? DSColour? . Thanks
@@GavinHoey Knowledge first! Then yes, practice. However, it's hard to practice when you don't have anything to practice on/ with. I haven't figured out yet how all these folks have a continuous stream of models and props to shoot. I mean, I get it for you, you're very established working photographer. But a lot of the these UA-camrs are just that, you tubers. I've not lost faith though. Plus, your videos have been a constant source of ideas and how to way back when you were shooting the red riding hood with Canon and a Rovelite.
@@toddstrong497 Ah the lovely Fern as Red Riding Hood, happy memories. She popped over to the studio recently (with baby no.2) for a cuppa tea. Hopefully we'll get her back in as a model before to long.
Hi Paul the floor was around £100 so yes expensive for one shoot but it's now rolled up (vinyl flooring) and stored. In my experience things that are "just one shoot" are often recycled time and again around here 😉
On a different point how do you cope with all the tattoos on models, personally I can’t stand them,it like throwing ink on. White wedding dress or on The Mona Lisa. Girls more and more are having them I have almost stopped using models for that reason do you have a take? Are you able to say on here or would it be Taboo to talk about Tattoos 😂😂😂
Tattoos can be awesome but there ways around them if they're an issue. My three main options are... Cover them with clothing. Hide them in the shadows. Hire a really good make-up artist to work their concealer magic. Not all models have tattoos and not all tattoos are an issue 😉
Great Video very informative - Nice to see one on your own acount
Hi Mick. It was a fun shoot and nice to do something a tiny bit different :)
Another absolute winner Gav, and I whole heartedly agree "Stop hiding things away" I love the new ACR but finding stuff at first was a royal pain.
Really awesome your time sharing your video of your shoot ❤😊
Excellent Gavin! Thanks!
Thank you very much, you are always a great source of inspiration.
Very nice, Gavin and Sophie!
Nice to see you back
Wonderful to see a "real" Gavin video! We all love the Adorama projects, but nothing beats the real stuff. Thanks a lot, Gavvi baby!

I loved the “swinging 60s look”! The soundtrack was ideal !
Thanks Kit. It's the subtle things that take time but make all the difference. Thanks for noticing 👍
@@GavinHoey I’ll share this with an old friend who was a Butlins photographer, he’ll get kick out it!
Very good, Garvin !
Stunning again🤩
Wonderful video ... can't wait for part 2!
how nice to see you again! you lost weigh! Thanks for the class!
Thanks for the kind words. You'll find me doing this sort of video most Thursdays on Adorama TV

Hi Rob. They were ground breaking flashes in their day and yes, mine still works like new too.
Great video, excellent prop, model and explanation of the process.
I had the same idea of covering up a electric outlet with paper and it made things worse. I love the models outfit with the Vespa very Mod!
Great minds fail alike Marc 😉

Exact tutorial that I was looking for. Thanks!

Thanks. I felt the post processing needed to be shown in detail, hopefully others will also find it helpful.

great job! ... as a vespa rider you could have added an 'interesting texture' to the walls simply by starting it up !
Hi Carl. In that case I'm glad this one is (currently) and non starter!

With checkerboard floor and walls your model would disappear, except for a head floating above the Vespa.
That's not far off what happened on my test edit Ronnie 😲
Needs 2 get out at more 😲
No ska music?
gret warak sar
I expected you to get a shot of just the wall, no Vespa and no model, to work on your background. I think it's easier.
Photograph the wall and then drop in the Vespa an Sophie in post... sounds so easy when you say it 😁
