Gavin, you are a treasure of fun and technical knowledge. Plus you have a great speaking voice. Thanks for these videos. It really motivates me to do more creative photography. And thank you Adorama for sponsoring these!
I used to do it with a square piece of glass over the keyboard of my notebook and a white paper over it and changing the wallpaper of the notebook and the glass of water in front of it, it works very well to the effect and it's easy to change to any other image you want it to be
“Any man who can hitch the length and breadth of the galaxy, rough it, slum it, struggle against terrible odds, win through, and still knows where his towel is, is clearly a man to be reckoned with.”
Thank you, Gavin! There are so many things involving water that are fun and interesting to shoot, and this is another method that I'll definitely explore. Take care and stay safe!
Brilliant! Cant wait to give it a go! One added thing I really like about your videos is the background music - I could listen to that again and again hehehe
I love your videos, in these days of confinement I was experimenting with crystals. You help me a lot with technique and with my English. Greetings from Buenos Aires, Argentina
Brilliant as always Gavin, and with this and your excellent live bottle shadow session, you've given us plenty to keep ourselves occupied for a while, well, until your next video anyway :) :)
Love your tutorial, you often say you have a small studio, it would be nice if you would give us a tour so we know how small exactly your studio is, it could give us ideas on creating ours. Hope you will. Thanking you in advance
Loved it! I would have liked it a smidge better though if you had wiped down the water drops on the top of the glass as I found them distracting from your otherwise perfection!
Gavin your videos are really amazing, I like it so much, but let me ask some thing? There is something wrong with your website, because I've been trying to see it but every time i try I cant.
Thanks Lukas. I recommend having a go at f/22, reviewing the results and making an educated personal judgement. Avoiding an aperture because of something your read online is a real shame.
I'm sure you have heard of it, but have you heard of Glare Light and how to use it? foodportfolio.com/food-photography-lighting-glare-light/ Good post about it here. Maybe you can do a video about this reverse shots with some added glare? Pretty fun shoot though Gavin! Thanks for doing this!!!
Hi Gavin. Any chance of using a narrower lens for the camera at your new editing suite setup? Keeps reminding me of this ua-cam.com/video/DGYqWULIUp0/v-deo.html. Love your work.
Hi Gavin Hoey. Thanks for the video. I tried this, but failed. As my printer ran out of ink, I used the pc monitor as my background. But I thing the quality of the glass matters. Here is mine flic.kr/p/2iWmSZi

Gavin, you are a treasure of fun and technical knowledge. Plus you have a great speaking voice. Thanks for these videos. It really motivates me to do more creative photography. And thank you Adorama for sponsoring these!

WHen I saw the thumbnail and title I was hoping this was a Gavin Hoey video. This looks like it could be fun and educational with the grandkids.
The grand kids will love this Andy and you're secretly teaching them a bit of physics at the same time
I immediately thought of my grandkids, too.
Thank you Gavin. I’ll try it 😊
Brilliant! Cant wait to give it a go! One added thing I really like about your videos is the background music - I could listen to that again and again hehehe

This is great! Thank you!!!
Glad you liked it!
Nice work. I will have to try that one :-)
Love your tutorial, you often say you have a small studio, it would be nice if you would give us a tour so we know how small exactly your studio is, it could give us ideas on creating ours. Hope you will. Thanking you in advance
Cool !!! I bet there are some cool paper backgrounds available at arts and crafts stores, that scrapbook folks use.
Loved it! I would have liked it a smidge better though if you had wiped down the water drops on the top of the glass as I found them distracting from your otherwise perfection!
I wonder what the results would look like if you combined this idea with dropping something in the water and doing a splash photo?
You must be a Hitchhiker's Guide to the Galaxy fan.
Good
Thanks Gavin, I don't know what to do first. :)
Gavin your videos are really amazing, I like it so much, but let me ask some thing? There is something wrong with your website, because I've been trying to see it but every time i try I cant.
I'm going to do this
What is the name of the song?
Inspired and challenged by this Tutorial. I gave it a go and the photos were amazing.... Thanks
Nice Douglas Adams reference. You are definitely a hoopy frood.
You ALWAYS need to know where your towel is!!!
if you print your backgrounds, I put a clear piece of glass out of a picture frame on top gives a good reflective surface...
Good video for those of us that are stuck inside. Are the backgrounds you used available for download, so I can print them?
Here you go Larry www.gavtrain.com/?p=6869
Nice idea but do you really recommend F22 ? What about '' lens sweet spot'' for people what I don't know just google that. ''lens sweet spot chart''
Thanks Lukas. I recommend having a go at f/22, reviewing the results and making an educated personal judgement. Avoiding an aperture because of something your read online is a real shame.
How about a haze spray video??
Don't panic and always carry a towel
Absolutely 😊 You really got to know where you towel is!
Hello Gavin, when i click the link below to Gavin Backgrounds then "Page not found" apperas. By The way - wonderful video - as usual
Should be working now Wolfgang 👍
@@GavinHoey It did, Thanks Gavin and stay healthy
Really love the striped shots. The only niggle for me are the water droplets inside the glass. Nevertheless, a great video.
I rather liked the drops.
Gavin Hoey if you like them, theirs wrong with them then 🙂
why you shootin olympus tho
Your link to the backgrounds isn't working.
Should be working now Frank 👍
Gavin, were it mine, I would have cleaned off the water droplets on the glass. JMPO Nice tut, thanks.
Good job it was mine then, I liked them 😁
Dude you sound like an animated character hahaha
A wine glass without wine in at the Hoey household??? Strange times we live in.....
Using wine for photography is illigal in the UK... Or it would be if I was in charge 🍾
Guy does stuff that has been done a million times before...crowd cheers how creative he is...this is contemporary photography in a nutshell.
if only my printer would print as i would like it to print lol
I'm sure you have heard of it, but have you heard of Glare Light and how to use it?

I had a very hard time focusing...anyone else?
