Really well done pleasant video!! I am an American from NYC living in Saigon the past 30 years. I saw this video when it was first posted and decided to make a trip there with my wife as we were also interested to visit Lijiang. We found a great all inclusive tour for a very reasonable price as tours like this are crazy cheap from Vietnam. Just as we were about to forward the tour cost.... bang! Anyway... watching the video again... I am resolved to go there when we can.

I spent several years of my childhood here and have been homesick for it recently. We lived just at the edge of old town. Thank you for your delightful video exploring it -- seeing it brought happy tears to my eyes.
When you go back next time it will be helpful to know that if you're pointing at something that deserves reverence (like the religious murals, statues, prayer wheels, etc) you should point with your whole hand, palm up. Pointing with one finger is considered disrespectful. Pointing with your whole hand is a tiny thing but it'll help the locals feel that you respect their culture.

    Wow! Amazing digs again 👍
It’s funny, until now, I always thought Shangri-la was a mythical fantasy utopia, I didn’t realise it existed in real life as well.
It is a very enchanting place isn’t it.
Loved the jolly monk, practicing his mantra voice haha!
That thin air looks absolutely exhausting.
The tibetans certainly love their bright colours don’t they? All those prayer flags and bright adornments inside the temple areas. I’m so glad they seem to be openly keeping the tibetan traditions alive, despite the awful things that happened in the 1950’s.
Haha @ that little baby on the back of that moped.
It looks like you almost had the place to yourselves, so few people; such a difference to the other places you have been to.

    • @Steve-Owens

Thanks Rick, Although there have been some awful things happen in Tibet over the years, there is some hope that here, the traditions and this ethnic minority survive and prosper but I do accept this may not be case all over China..
What's amazing, is seeing just how different regions of China are. Here they look and talk differently to other parts of China and are using a language that bears no resemblance to Mandarin.. I love it :o)

Thanks for that link it was fascinating, I was looking for something like it but it's hard to find, I know a bit about this history, so thanks.
You really should not hold leaders in such reverence, they don't represent us, what was happening then and now is not good.
You are you. Live your life and try not to let stupid government decide your views, we are all connected and not connected in the same way, a centralised government doesn't represent you any more that is does me.
You may like to label of yourself as Chinese, I might Label myself as European? But these labels are silly. China is a region of wonderful mixed people, with great history of their own.
I come from Europe but I don't consider I belong to the Label European any more than a Carrot is a "Vegetable" but foremost it is a Carrot, it did not ask to be labelled a Vegetable and unless you told it over and over it was one, I hope that makes sense.
Have a wonderful life and thanks for the link.
