I love that scene with the Scouts talking to Bertholdt on top of Reiner. We finally get some Bert dialog, and his speech is great. Even without knowing what he's really talking about, you feel for him.

Bert's "Someone find us" in Japanese has the same words but come off way different. It's closer to a helpless cry for help from someone lost -rather than a rational sentence.
This is why I prefer dub, english is my native language. I can connect better to the emotions but also not get lost in translation

It is a double meaning to a future reveal event so Dub doesn't do any good.

bert saying 'someone find us' is just a metaphor, meaning they're wishing for someone to look beyond their sins, forgive them, and treat them like normal humans

I think he was just struggling and asking for people on "his side" to go get them so they can stop the undercover operation.

About that scene in the previous episode where Reiner starts to talk about Historia and Eren "loses it", pretty sure is not directly related to Reiner mentioning Historia; but just the fact that he started to chit-chat like if they were all friends, because of this split-personality disorder thing... Eren just LOST the fight of his life and then got captured by the guys reponsible for the death of his mother and everyone else Eren has lost and so many others... and Reiner just starts talking about promotions (within the scouts) and if Historia may or may not have the hots for him... Pretty sure Eren would have reacted the same way if Reiner were asking him what shirt to wear or what color to paint his house. XD

Yeah, I think, how casually Reiner speaks, and the fact that the dialogue switches up from Reiner speaking as if he is a soldier, then slipping back into warrior, confused them quite a bit. I mean, I know I was definitely hella confused during this, and didn't quite understand that Reiner was hardcore disassociating. It becomes super obvious of course later on, but when you don't even know the real difference between 'soldier' and 'warrior', it's like WAT -- am I the one missing something?? When that information hasn't been made clear at all yet.

personally, I believe that "please, someone find us" means that they are lost children, lost souls. and it is tied up to ep 6 when Reiner says "we were children, we didn't know anything". So basically they have lost themselves and don't know what are they standing for.
I really love Bert's speech honestly. I feel like he's struggling with who he is in that scene. Is he a friend of the scouts? Why is he this monster who killed so many civilians by kicking in a wall?
I see the "Someone find us" line as "Someone, please tell me who I am, because I don't know what I stand for"

yeah man... "someone find us..." can also mean "we're lost..." and that's figuratively speaking, the struggle and conflict of bertholdt and reiner... it's so painful... 😭
I think Isayama was trying to convey that Bertholdt isn't as calm and collected as he seems. He's just as broken as Reiner, but he forced himself to fight through it. That little scene was Bert not being able to take it any longer.
This episode confirmed Erwin as a god tier character.
Erwin doesn't know anything more than the rest of us, it's just that Eren is the only one on their side with a titan form so Erwin sees that as their most important asset. Everyone does, that's why all of the scouts AND military police are out there chasing them down to get Eren back.
He also sees how the enemy wants to take Eren away from them which proves to Erwin even more that Eren is the key to winning this war
Yeah, that and what Retr0 said. Humanity had NEVER won against the titans before. Plugin Trost's wall was the FIRST time ever they conquered back territory lost to the titans, thanks to Eren's titan form.
Erwin is very smart and is always thinking and planning several steps ahead of everyone else. Not only he knows how important of an asset Eren can be for humanity, but he also noticed long ago how important Eren seems to be to the enemy (stopping their attack on Trost without the Armored appearing to break the inner wall like they did on Shiganshina; or Annie apparently being entirely focused on just retrieving Eren and escaping with him)...
Even if Eren wasn't of any use to humanity; Erwin probably thinks the enemy shouldn't have it. Not to mention the whole thing with the basement... who knows if having Eren will be even more important or needed if they (or to) get there.

From their two stronger teams (Levi's and Mike's squads) only two guys remain: Levi (currently injured) and Thomas (the one that reported back to the city that there were titans within Rose)... They were in dire need of some kind of reinforcements; so they have to get some MPs to help them...
I forgot how scary Mikasa was this episode...
The way her eyes looked when she stared at Bert through the fingers of the Armored. Man one of my favorite scenes this season for sure.
1:30 I think Eren was mad because he felt that Reiner was belittling what had just happened (i.e. he revealed that he and Burrito were the Armoured and Colossal Titan, that they were traitors all along). Kinda like if you just found out your best friend murdered your family and they were just standing there talking casually as though nothing happened and everyone would return to the usual later.

Ymir was lying about her selfish reason. She was trying to save Historia from "rotting within the walls"/that something that would happen within the walls that Ange had theorized.
edit: She lied because the best way to convince Historia is to make her think SHE's saving Ymir instead.
Yeah, Connie pointed it out too to Historia. I wished they talked more about that. Ymir can be selfish, true, but not to Historia. lol

I agree about her bluntness, but also I don't think it's just her bluntness that throws people off. She actively says she's always looking out for herself first, always (even though, it's not true. Classic tsundere). Looking back, even from the cult flashbacks, to Sasha, to Daz and now (and the future, without giving away too much) she always says the opposite, but actions speak louder than words. I love Ymir even more.

I find it weird to see Berthold saying "someone find us" when in some other streaming services it says "someone save us". It's the same meaning but I think when he says that he's meaning please save us from ourselves, or something down that road.
I find it funny because Armin realized Berthold weakness on the spot. Annie.
Following last episode, it was clear that he felt something for Annie, even Reiner noticed because he "stared too much".
These are the official subtitles, he is meant to say "find us".
Bert and Reiner are clueless about the fact that Annie had encased herself in crystal and hence cant be tortured, in fact they dont know nothing about what happened to her, or if even anything happened to her, from berts and reiners pov she had just gone incommunicado randomly
She didn't even have the time to go incommunicado: her fight against Eren was just the day before! And during that fight, Reiner and Bertolt were isolated (alongside Conny, Sasha, etc.) then learned of the supposed breach of Wall Rose, rode to Ragako and so on. So for all they know, she's just chilling as a MP in Stohess.

To help you guys better understand the relationship between ymir and historia without any spoilers -
Ymir is a character who constantly lies to protect the people around her, on the outside she might seem really selfish and rude but she's the most selfless character in the show. Ymir is obviously in love with historia and sees her as someone similar to her because of the unfortunate similar backgrounds both have had according to ymir. Ymir wants to protect historia at any cost from dying inside the walls and wants to take her outside the walls with her to protect her but historia doesn't want ymir to sacrifice herself just to save her, ymir has always told historia to live a proud life only for herself and now historia wants ymir to do the same, she also wants ymir to live for herself and she says that she will always be her ally . But ymir still wants to protect historia from dying inside the walls, so she lies to her that she has been doing all this just for her own sake so that historia agrees to help ymir live for herself and go with her so that ymir can protect her. That's all i can say till this episode without any spoilers, next episode u will have a better understanding of everything between those 2...Can't wait for the season finale reaction

Eren and Mikasa are so similar they really cant control their emotions when it comes to protecting each other they dont even care about listening to anyone but i mean can you blame them? after everything they have went through, how many people have failed them and how horrible this world is yeah i wouldn’t last a day

In serious news, Bertolt's emotional breakdown is pretty sad due to how reserved he's been so far. Something in his tone struck something in Ymir. Also, Mikasa threatening both Ymir and Historia. Yikes. And the return of Joker Titan. Smiles all around. Absolutely wild episode. Also, Bertolt reacting in anger is so unusual. "You spawn of the devil".
5:51 - To answer your question without spoiling anything, it was mentioned in a previous episode that while the Colossal Titan kicked the wall and the Armored Titan ran through it, Annie was the one who ushered in the dumb titans to enter because the Female Titan was the one who had the ability to call forth (but not control) dumb titans. That's proof that that ability of hers back inhe forest was not an ass-pull. It was foreshadowed.

I swear anytime Eren is in danger Mikasa loses focus of the bigger picture and doesn't always necessarily listen to reason. She's a great fighter but she lets her emotions towards Eren cloud her judgement in my opinion. Thank goodness for Jean and the others.

There's no reason for Mikasa to even listen to the literall kidnapers. She doesen't know if they will kill Eren and you expect her to what? Make them a coffe and listen to them calmly? Mikasa is 100% in the right here.

I know she's worried about him and I'm sure everyone else is as well but I just feel like she lets her feelings towards Eren cloud her judgement and lose focus sometimes to the point where she's nearly gotten herself killed because of it. Like I said, she's a great fighter and I do admire her for that but sometimes I think she could have a bit more of a level head like Armin or some of the others. I don't hate her as a character or anything but it's just something I've noticed. Sorry if that made you like mad or something :/
She’s just let her emotions clouded her judgment to the situation once! And that’s when Levi and her team up to saving Eren, Levi lectures her about it and she never let that happen again, I don’t know that there were that much scenes she let her emotions and decision clouded her judgment to affect the other tho
@@gothkasababe I agree with you. And on this particular case, she did listen - to Levi. Just before they left Ehrmich for Utgard Castle (fully aware on the suspicions on Reiner and Bertholdt), Levi said to her to "protect Eren at the utmost of (her) abilities". She feels that she already failed once when she didn't take them down on the wall, she won't fail him again, even if it costs her her life.
I love how they make random guesses that are 100% correct, but for completely insane reasons
I can honestly say that this is by far my favourite react channel that I've seen so far.
Most react channels just react to the ep and that's it.
And I always feel frustrated by those react channels because of it and that it doesn't feel that authentic to me, due to I called it cards out of nowhere among other decisions those other channels made.
But on this channel, Carlie and Ange truly make it feel like I'm seeing Attack on Titan for the first time again.
I adore the theorising and I relate to it to much from when I first saw AOT.
And making it one ep per video is a fantastic call for a show such as Attack on Titan.

I love how, in this episode, Historia realises that Mikasa has reason to attack Ymir and decides that between the giant monster and the 15 year old girl with a couple of pointy bits of metal, its so obvious to Historia that the smart money is definitely on the 15 year old girl, that she tells Ymir to immediately stand down.
She right, but its just such a ridiculous state of affairs in universe.

I know a lot of people talk about Bert not talking much in s1 - beginning of s2. However, when you think about it, not everynody would be ok with being one of the biggest murderers of the history of humanity. Reiner just had another personnality which was born because of the guilt. Annie was just isolating herself and Bert just couldnt speak a lot and be that much dishonest. Once their true identity had been revealed, Bert was able to embrace more his true self, no more lying to himself. At least, that's my understanding of if. Sorry for the english's quality x)

RIP to erwin's right arm :( btw reiner cups both his hands to cover his neck to protect bert and prevent eren from being taken away so they're not inside the titan but they're inside the armoured titan's palm. bert says "someone, please... someone find us" because he wants to tell them he's not doing whatever he's doing by choice but because he has to do it
Awesome intro and discussion - so glad you guys are sinking into the juicy details that get revealed! Great point about notetaking: I was going to suggest last episode to maybe ease up on the notetaking as it takes your eyes off the episode and subtitles, and important info comes fast and quick in this show. Notetaking during editing seems to be the perfect solution.
I hope during the edit for this episode you got a chance to go over Ymir and Historia's talk. There's a lot of subtext and nuance to what they say and it's really beautiful. Same with Bert's speech. Tears everytime. 😭

When Rainer mentioned Christa, he also went on about getting promoted within the scouts and all that.
I think at that point Eren hadn't noticed Rainer's fractured mind... or whatever mental condition he has and probably throught Rainer was mocking him.
Which is an understandable reaction. Eren just learned that Rainer is personally responsible for the death of more than 250k people within the walls, including many of Eren's comrades and then he talks about deserving a promotion and gratitude for it from the very people he slaughtered.
Eren was not the one that ate (part of) Marco. You got the timing confused. At the moment Marco died Annie, Berthold and Rainer still had no idea Eren was a titan-shifter so at that moment it would have just been another titan to them. And when they later saw Eren come out of his titan, they were just as surprised as everybody else (okay... probably a little less, since they knew that titan shifters exist, but not that Eren was one of them). Also after his first transformation Eren was on a single-minded anti-titan rampage and ignored all Humans, so why would he ignore everyone else and only eat Marco?
Rainer isn't trying to flick them off, because he's using both hands to protect Berthold and keep Eren confined. He can't do that with just one hand, so trying to fight them off would mean leaving Berthold vulnerable.
If you ever rewatch this episode, make sure to pause and zoom in on the horse when the MP is eaten on top of it. The look on it's face is unintentionally hilarious. :D

Your timing is a bit off as well regarding when Marco died: it was sometime during the "plug the hole with the boulder" operation. Marco helped save Jean (alongside Conny and Annie) when his ODM gear wasn't working. Just after Jean is saved and they're on top of the wall, they see that Eren finally picked up the boulder (and decided to go back him up). So Reiner and co knew that Eren was a titan shifter. But I agree that he couldn't have eaten Marco: all he did at that time was plugging the hole then passing out.
Erwin calmly losing a limb almost being eaten alive continues to give orders. God damn. That’s a leader I would die for.
Bert's speech is one of my favorite speeches from this whole show. Too bad it was overshadowed by Erwin being too bad ass

She was summoning titans so there'd be lots of titans going through the breach. A breach might be fixed if there aren't titans around.

This is one of the best episodes of the show for me. It just made me fall in love with Erwin's character. He set aside his dreams and recognize that he is not of High importance. He is ready to give up on his life if that means achieving Victory. What a leader, What a legend

The "rot inside the walls" part is just another way of them saying that there is no future with them staying inside the walls instead of exploring outside. It's not a literal threat of rotting, it's more of a metaphor of them saying "if you stay inside the walls, you'll die there because there's no future for Humanity there".
