The reason they choose kids is not because they are on their "prime" (no one is at 12 years old...), but because they are CHILD SOLDIERS. It's easier that they just do as they are told/taught. Once you start growing older, you start thinking for your own and forming your own opinions. Reiner was being completely sarcastic on the dinner table.... I mean his definition of the island people was just normal people like the rest of the world
I don't think sarcastic is the right word. He was genuinely trying to talk shit about them, but he actually started missing the days he spent with them mid-way through and forgot to feed his family the usual Marley propaganda.
A point to consider about Reiner is that he's been through a lot and seen a bunch of things. If there was a word for him this season it would be exhausted. The next couple episodes really push you to put yourself in his shoes
Btw for aot season 4, there are a lot of post credit scenes which are usually after the ending songs, this season 4 or 5 of the episodes have post credit scenes so pls be aware of that. Pretty much watch all the episodes until you see the “to be continued…” page. Ofc u can skip the ending song if u want to, to watch the post credit scenes!
What 70%? Between part 1 and 2 there's like 4 or 5 of them. Easy way to know if there's a post credits scene or not is if the to be continued screen is missing.
@@tomasmoreira1592 Yeah, I have no idea where that 70% number comes from 😂. Like you said, it's only like 4 or 5 out of 28 episodes that have a post credits scene.
Reiner was reminiscing more than anything at the dinner table. He tried to frame it in a bad light, to convince both his family and more importantly himself that they truly were devils, because if they weren't, that would be too much to take in. It's a great scene, but most people miss the subtext. (I think I did too at first)
I find the dinner table scene heartwrenching. Reiner's got to pretend to hate the people of Paradis because that's what people in Marley are brought up to believe, but he just can't find anything bad about them and he starts talking about the potato scene. He really viewed Eren and the others as his friends
this was the guitar intro i was looking forward to the absolute most and you did NOT disappoint!! such a unique song and you absolutely fucking KILLED it, complete and total LEGEND 🙌 may or may not have inspired me to get my old electric and amp out of storage after playing only classical the past few years, gotta shred some AoT!!
Carlie kept mentioning how Reiner can't be trusted, but you've got to look at his character from two different perspectives. When he was on Paradis Island, he was a Marley soldier on a mission. Everything he did was against the "enemy." Now it's back home, with his people, with his comrades. He's going to be a different person.
Reiner and the dinner conversation was describing his friends on the island. Sasha and potatoes. Connie forgetting about the bathroom. Jean and his attitude. Eren and the two people who followed him... Question is do you think that he actually meant what he said describing his time and experience there?!
I think what people misunderstood is that Marley is supposed to be familiar to n*zis, but you know, with their whole propaganda. Its more about he can not tell the truth, because if he did, then Marley would know and kill his family for doing so. As I said, I think its more about that he has to say stuff like this to not get killed.
Reiner is actually the most trustable person for Falco because he's a person who got so much attached to the "enemy" that he now has multiple personalities and during the table scene, Reiner actually tried to tell them that the people on Paradis Island are just regular humans, he's not insulting them, he's their friend, he cares for them.
I love how the "arcs" switched here. The last episode of the season 3 was called the other side of the wall, and now the first of this season is called the other side of the sea. A switch in perspective, where your understanding of good or bad means nothing.
Reiner was protecting Falco by scolding him in the train. He can't say things like that out loud when there are Marleyans listening everywhere, he could be sent to Paradise island if he says stuff so carelessly out loud.
I'm stoked you guys did a second watch through, there's so much to unpack in this episode. Now we're seeing the perspective of the "other side." Be careful not to let your biases stop you from observing what's going on. I'd love to hear more of your thoughts about the state of things in Marley: power dynamics, hierarchy and character relationships, political intrigue, societal structures, Marleyans vs Eldians vs Paradis, military influence, etc. It all shapes the people and vice versa. Keep up the great vids and keep your eyes and ears peeled!
I like Reiner a lot, in the dinner we see the dissonance he is feeling bc his ppl expected to speak about monsters and he descrives a normal people, and I think its a good thought about the war and its implications.
When Reiner chastises Falcao for questioning the value of the titan, the way I look at this is he is basically showing Falcao what others might interpret that kind of talk as if he were to say it around them. They would not hesitate to call him a traitor and send him to paradis. Its not that he disagrees with the sentiment, its just that he needs Falcao to know the risk he is taking when he expresses that sentiment to someone.
the random guy on the roof was one of the war veterans. The sounds of the rain and the thunder reminded him of bullets and explosions. He couldn't take it anymore.
I cant believe you took the part of Reiner speaking about his time in paradise so grimmly, Like, he told them everyone one was a savage devil, and the example for that was sasha eating a potatoe. To me this scene was there to solidify how messed up he is about that whole experience. We gotta remember; Most people have no idea of what is going on on the Paradise. The information they have is that of 100 years ago, and Probably everything Reiner has told, whatever he told would be confidential. Great reaction, i actually believe one of my favorite characters is Galliard and commander Maggath, you will probably love those too. Honestly so many of em are great.
NON SPOILER ADDITIONAL INFO: This is for you two to clear up some unanswered questions in your minds. In the manga after they got off the train, the anime removed a certain important dialogue from Falco which explains about the reasons of the 4 years war and the results of the failed Paradis island operation. After the failed mission in Paradis, Reiner took full responsibility of it and the Armoured Titan power was nearly stripped out from him and be given to the next warrior candidate. But he proved his allegiance to Marley once again by risking his life in one successful battle into the next which consist of the 4 years war to prove himself still worthy as Marley's shield in which now, no one calls for him to stripped his titan power and also the reason he's still the Armoured Titan up to the present. And as for Zeke's dialogue in ep. 1 saying "Our defeat caused this war, Reiner" explains: The Marley nation has been the top 1 in the world due to their military force and Titan powers. But due to the failed mission in Paradis resulting the lost of the Female Titan and the Collosal Titan in which are part of Marley's powerful military advantage, lead to a huge loss of power and weaker military force. This resulted the allied nation of the middle east countries to join forces together to take down Marley which is why the reason the war has been long for 4 years. You'll see Reiner going back and forth contradicting himself, first saying to Falco why are you insulting the honor of having one of the nine? And then saying to rescue Gabi from the dark future that awaits her if she inherit the titan. His fighting with himself... Poor man :') also the dinner table scene of him talking about his friends of paradise...
No, it's to keep up his facade of being a loyal Marleyan Warrior, especially to eavesdroppers. But deep down he doesn't believe the propaganda and hates the shackle placed on them, so he tells Falco on the down-low. **SPOILER*** It's the same reason as Zeke doing the same.
Reiners dinner table monologue is meant to show two things. First, it humanizes the "devils." He's grasping at straws trying to find ways to make them seem actually evil. Which leads to the second point; propaganda and indoctrination. He has nothing actually bad to say about them, but he has to call them devil's because of the situation he's in as an Eldian under Marley oppression. It's like Grisha with his father. Grisha makes a valid point, and the only thing his father can say is that the walls are paper thin and beg his son to be quiet so they "don't share the same fate as Fay."
It is important to understand that we have an other Reiner here ... or rather a more detailed characterization of him. We only got short moments of this in season 1-3 where his character broke through the propaganda he had learnt. When he met the children at the harbor he really cared for them. His flashback there showed his trauma and fear for them that they may suffer the same things as he did. The train scene underlined this again. He also spoke clearly against the marleyan way of war (he forced Falco rethink his statements to be more careful AND to save Gabi). The dinner is well-discussed here in the comments. Funny to see how Reiner gets the hate here while Zeke (who kinda enjoyed killing people or has at least no remorse) got almost nothing.
I love your reactions! And don't worry guys, everyone got through the same trying to understand what was going on😂 I personally feel really really bad for Reiner and for all those kids, living in a world where brainwashing and wars are happening it's just sad😭 the world is a cruel place after all.
nah season 3 episodes 20-22 were the only episodes I had to watch twice to get everything other than that I didn't have a problem following the story from season 1 to 4 bec I mean everything gets explained eventually and you just gotta pay attention
The island is called Paradis (para-dee)...but when they get sent there as Titans, it's referred to as "sending them to paradise". However, the actual name is Paradis. So happy for Ange to hear about the war-hammer!! I needed someone who gets as stoked about Titans as I do!! Lol. Great vid, guys. :)
My take when Reiner starts talking about Sasha and stuff is that it looked like he was remembering good times. He was talking about trivial things they did like they were evil, but he hardly believed that. To me he was reliving it with a level of nostalgia but couldn't show being in there with those people.
AOT's Main Mystery For Seasons 1-3: What's in the basement? AOT's Main Mystery Now: What's Zeke's special MONKE wiping technique? Also, poor Ymir. Her story is so tragic
Ymir is an idiot. If she had half a brain she would have let reiner and bert die in s3 or even better run up and eat bertolt or reiner or both. But don't save them... she obviously wants to protect Historia so why did she literally go out of her way to make historias life harder by strengthening her oppositions military forces that her friends were going to be forced to fight to the death later.
Remember, just because you heard the "real" name of the War Hammer Titan before you saw it, that doesn't mean you're off the hook for coming up with your own nickname for it!
Think about it with this new perspective. The families of the Warriors (Reiner, Bert and Annie) live in the internment zone in Marley, literally at the gunpoint of the Marleyans. So what Berthdolt said was no joke, they hade no choice, but to follow orders (even if they no longer see those in Paradi as devils), or else their home would be destroyed and their families dead. Like he said, he doesn't see those in the Walls as devils (instead as comrades), but rather it's what they simply had to do - "someone has to get their hands stained with blood." That's in addition to the whole point of their mission, which was to save the world from the impending threat of the Island because of the Founding Titan - the past could be repeated). Also, when Reiner was describing his experience with the Eldians inside the Walls, he was clearly being sarcastic, he wasn't describing how much of a devil they were but rather how normal of a people they were.... And, have you still not realized who Pieck is? She's wearing the same red arm band as the others. 😆😆
All of the 9 Titans has been revealed. On Marley's side; 1: Beast, 2: Armored, 3: Jaw, 4: Cart, 5: War Hammer, 6: Female. Paradise Island side; 7: Founding, 9: Attack(Shredded), 9: Colossal. Since Eren got 2 of them (Attack, Founding), there are 8 titan shifters. Only the War Hammer identity and appearence remains to be seen. Even if Zeke's gang is working for Marley, Marley's soldiers are not trusting them since they are Eldians. Eldians are persecuted by everyone else because of their ancestors sins and the fact that they can be transformed into Titans. But if an Eldian inherit one of The Nine, his/her family will become honorary Marleyan. So the main reason why a young Eldian wants to work as a titan under Marley's command for 13 years, is to save their family. Keep up your great AOT reactions videos! Season 4 has just started! 😉🤗
The introduction with the guitar is excellent... in the video of the introduction you can see an army marching between seconds 39 and 45. This refers to the years in which WW2 began and ended (1939 and 1945).
Pieck isn't exactly injured. She just has a little trouble walking upright because she basically stays in her titan form months at a time. She is the only one able to stay that long in titan form. I think you guys should watch Annie OVA before starting season 4.
17:24 "Why do they have to be kids?" Well maybe because, like any other person who like to prey on others and manipulate/abuse them to gain something in return, kids are the most ideal people to manipulate for them. Pedophiles literally groom children to suit their tastes. The Marleyan Military Forces like to take advantage of these kids, grooming them to have specific ideals, and incentivize the families of these kids to encourage or even force them into participating in this venture of becoming a warrior. The military is being manipulative towards the Eldians within the country telling them that the only way for them to respect the Eldians is by either giving your life and becoming a soldier or having your kids become warrior candidates.
you guys used to do so well back in the first season in terms of understanding the plot and finding deeper connections, but in the recent seasons, I often got frustrated by how you guys couldn't get things almost all the times.
I do trust Reiner. He is a good comrade. In this episode he potentially saved Falco and Porco. Putting some fear in Falco in the train might seem tough but if Falco said what he said in front of some other Eldian or Marleyan he would've probably ended up dead or pure titan. Reiner saved Porco at the end of the chapter when Zeke told them "just tea. Nothing sus" knowing they were being heard by the Marleyan brass. Porco was about to say something inappropriate and Reiner cut him off before he spoke too much, knowing Zeke lied.
Reiner is favorite character, he is one of the most tragic and complex characters in the entire show. Carlie and Ange saying that they don't have a care for Reiner, but they do for the kids (the warrior candidates) is ironic given that Reiner was at one point like those kids, they just haven't realized yet. (Not at the point they made this video, obviously this happened months ago).
The dinner scene is a irony driven scene. Up untill this point their people have been fed stories and propaganda that people on Paradis are devils. Reiner tries his hardest to be relatable to what they expect to hear , notice his serious and dreadful tone. Even with his attempt to be relatable his stories all resemble memories that have no correlation with devil like behavior. Yet the family can hear that and still won't budge from their position. Their cultural runs so deep with hatred against people on Paradis that they don't notice that everything Reiner said isn't Devil like but normal behavior among people.
There was dialogue between Gabi and the other warrior candidates in the first episode that confirmed Eldians are hated throughout the world (not by literally everyone, obviously, but certainly the vast, overwhelming majority), and that the treatment they face in other countries is actually even worse than it is Marley.
I don't think you guys understand what reiner was talking.. It was like an ironic moment for him... It's like when we miss someone so bad and we even remember the tiniest bs they have done... The mother understood that reiner was not hating the paradis devils anymore.. The rant he just spoke at dinner table was things like potato, bathroom, idiotic FRIENDS that he miss alottt
Great reaction as always! And Ange, this new intro cover is amazing! You didn"t speak about Pieck, though, so I wonder: what are your thoughts about the Duck-Cart Titan being a (apparently) very nice young woman? I remember being stunned when I realized she was the Cart!
if you wanted to see their reaction, why possibly spoil it for them? its not uncommon for reactors to miss that bit of information the first time around.
@@mitchhamilton64 It's not much of a spoiler to say that she is cart titan. I mean c'mon, she's got a red arm band, and why else would she be in Zeke's meeting with other titans. Would Zeke just invite some random girl for top secret meeting like that

This might just be my own interpretation, but I think Galliard calling Ymir pitiful wasn't meant to be an insult. He talks about/to Reiner with more contempt that he does about Ymir, the girl who ate his own brother. As her successor he probably saw what most of her life was like and the hell she went through, hence pitiful. I think that's partially why he puts more blame on Reiner for the death of Marcel than he does to Ymir-- he knows pure Titans are basically brainless and to some degree knew it wasn't her choice; it's easier to blame Reiner.
Hey you guys reiner in the table scene is being sarcastic he is describing them as just people like the rest of them. Thats why gabby says "but they are devils right?".
If they say something "bad" against Marley's beliefs, they will probably be killed, that's why Reiner "threatens" Falco but then tells him to save Gabi, the same thing happens during dinner when he talks about the potato as something evil, but you can tell that it's just something normal. By the way, we all have affection for the protagonists, but leave that aside and try to see the scenario at a general level, stop the irrational hatred for Reiner xD he's not even my favorite, but he doesn't deserve it xD

It was not sarcasm, it was his soldier side taking over his mind, he is a broken mentally dude
Reiner is just too honest of a human being that even if hes trying really hard hes just UNABLE to say bad things about his friends.
I don't think sarcastic is the right word. He was genuinely trying to talk shit about them, but he actually started missing the days he spent with them mid-way through and forgot to feed his family the usual Marley propaganda.
the writer isyama said his favourite character in the show was Reiner
most relatable character, i want to kill myself too :)
Which intro you should never skip when watching AOT? Ange's guitar intro :D
Haha thanks man 😅
@@CarlieAndAnge Hell yeah. Eren may be the Shredded Titan but Ange is the Shredder Titan. 🤘
I think their Patreon or Mods tell them if there's a post credit scene.
I really love Reiner, such a complex and interesting character.
Lol Reiner's dinner conversation is turning into "Female Titan blood on Reiner" again.
this was the guitar intro i was looking forward to the absolute most and you did NOT disappoint!! such a unique song and you absolutely fucking KILLED it, complete and total LEGEND 🙌 may or may not have inspired me to get my old electric and amp out of storage after playing only classical the past few years, gotta shred some AoT!!
Love that! That’s awesome
Now im curious to hear what Ange’s version of Season 4 part 2 op would sound like in the near future
@@codezetsubou same but we do know what the OP sounds like so
we have an idea of what it would sound like cause it will basically sound the same
Carlie kept mentioning how Reiner can't be trusted, but you've got to look at his character from two different perspectives.
No, which is why in the discussion we said that what Reiner was saying was merely just words with no ill intent behind them 😊
@@CarlieAndAnge roasted
@@dillonmachine2468 Yep, Carlie & Ange got roasted 🤣
@@dillonmachine2468 i don't think it was that bad how they got it? Why insult?
I'd love to hear Carlie and Ange talk about these things. I support this comment.
@@harshitpurohit2416 Thanks bruh.
I like Reiner a lot, in the dinner we see the dissonance he is feeling bc his ppl expected to speak about monsters and he descrives a normal people, and I think its a good thought about the war and its implications.
thiiiiis. the war topic is the a and o in this show. i don't know any other anime that covers it so well. it's so real that it makes me feel sick.
The dinner table scene was hilarious 😂 the mom's expression of terror when hearing about Sasha's greedy nature of not sharing half of a potato
the random guy on the roof was one of the war veterans. The sounds of the rain and the thunder reminded him of bullets and explosions. He couldn't take it anymore.
I cant believe you took the part of Reiner speaking about his time in paradise so grimmly,
Like, he told them everyone one was a savage devil, and the example for that was sasha eating a potatoe.
1 saying "Our defeat caused this war, Reiner" explains:
The Marley nation has been the top 1 in the world due to their military force and Titan powers.
Hope this additional informations helps you guys. Happy watching!!

Just want to mention that Reiner is Isayama's favorite character so... yeah.
Me too
the juxtaposition of the "boom" shouted by the asshole in front of soldiers with ptsd and then the next scene is "boom" shouted by gabi in warm and happy family dinner
out of all the reactors ive watched, following you guys on this journey was the most enjoyable one so far without a doubt! from the incredible analysis, theories, the hilarious puns, the dynamic between you two, and just the way you guys connect with the story, its incredible. thank you so much for making many people's day better by uploading :D im always excited for your videos
**SPOILER***
It's the same reason as Zeke doing the same.
"Good to see Zeke with some clothes on" 😂 oh boy, just you wait
When i was watching that episode, and realised who the owner of Cart Titan is, it was my longest Whaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaat?! moment
I was waiting for their reaction on Pieck being the Cart.
Oh, there's another one who commented a similar thing.

nah season 3 episodes 20-22 were the only episodes I had to watch twice to get everything other than that I didn't have a problem following the story from season 1 to 4 bec I mean everything gets explained eventually and you just gotta pay attention
I had the same reaction as Ange when I first heard them say War Hammer Titan...the most badass name for a titan.
Hopefully its not back to front
Ymir is an idiot. If she had half a brain she would have let reiner and bert die in s3 or even better run up and eat bertolt or reiner or both. But don't save them... she obviously wants to protect Historia so why did she literally go out of her way to make historias life harder by strengthening her oppositions military forces that her friends were going to be forced to fight to the death later.
In the Manga you saw More of Reiners nightmare. The last thing he saw was Bertholdt getting defeated and the colossal falling
Remember, just because you heard the "real" name of the War Hammer Titan before you saw it, that doesn't mean you're off the hook for coming up with your own nickname for it!
lol true, but Ange instantly got hyped about it tells me he's not gonna make one
love how ange every time say "hopefully next episode", but we all now attack on titan
They really do well to capture what each side is going through. It's really mind blowing!
"Who's the enemy?!"
Galliard wasn't talking shit about ymir, he was telling all the truth about her character
Uh
Fun Fact :- Reiner is the favourite character of Isayama, the writer of AOT.
Pieck is MVP and Best Girl, she was the one who rescued Zeke and Reiner back in S3 and kept the Warrior Unit from being wiped out.
Pieck isn't exactly injured.
She just has a little trouble walking upright because she basically stays in her titan form months at a time.
She is the only one able to stay that long in titan form.
I think you guys should watch Annie OVA before starting season 4.

That enthusiastic Ange scream about the war hammer titan had me dead 😂, like when he saw the Shredded Titan from Eren Kruger
that scene on the roof was someone (that came back from the war with PTSD) commiting "unalive" by jumping off the roof.
That soldier jumped off from trauma :( he didn't get electrocuted
as the solider had PTSD and a thunder night constantly brought him back war memory that he couldn't stand all night long.
The happy expression on Ange's face in the intro always kills me 🤣 good joob guys❤
17:24 "Why do they have to be kids?"
Well maybe because, like any other person who like to prey on others and manipulate/abuse them to gain something in return, kids are the most ideal people to manipulate for them.
Good catch! Falco and his brother are Grice's nephews, no one really catches that this early
you guys used to do so well back in the first season in terms of understanding the plot and finding deeper connections, but in the recent seasons, I often got frustrated by how you guys couldn't get things almost all the times.
At 12:44, I couldn't help but crack up. Poor Carlie. Lololol.
Just a reminder about feeling bad for Reiner, when the warriors first broke down the wall, they were only 12.
Marcel and Porco Galliard
Such an underrated brothers in the series
The dinner scene is a irony driven scene. Up untill this point their people have been fed stories and propaganda that people on Paradis are devils. Reiner tries his hardest to be relatable to what they expect to hear , notice his serious and dreadful tone. Even with his attempt to be relatable his stories all resemble memories that have no correlation with devil like behavior. Yet the family can hear that and still won't budge from their position. Their cultural runs so deep with hatred against people on Paradis that they don't notice that everything Reiner said isn't Devil like but normal behavior among people.
Reiner is by far my favorite character. I’m hoping you will like him eventually.
I love how you realize the little details such as Falco's last name

7:05 This scene is a parallel to the scene of Eren and Jean in Paradis, the night before retaking the wall.
THE MOMENT U REALISE....RIENER IS THE MAIN PROTAGONIST 🤣🤣🤣🤣
And today we learned a lot of people don't stick around for the post-reaction discussion haha. Great vid as always
Ange giggling at the jumper made me lol
But yeah, random shock moment out of nowhere!
That moment when you realize that Zeke is not the boos, is just a warrior...
When Reiner started talking about the 'devils', i was like, "ooooffff that's really freaking scary as hell" 😗😗😙🥴😂
Hey you guys reiner in the table scene is being sarcastic he is describing them as just people like the rest of them. Thats why gabby says "but they are devils right?".
That was one of the soldiers with ptsd committing suicide. Thunder reminded him of the explosions. (that's what I read somewhere).

Gratz to Angelo for totally nailing the intro, and to Angie for her cunning mind and insights :) Reiner is a very complex and human character, with strong PTSD and disassociation... "If only I knew that there were people like this, but we were only kids and we didn' t know any better" and "I don' t think Reiner is a Warrior anymore, he is more and more like a Soldier" describe perfectly what is going on
The warriors live a very difficult life, even more so than the lives of the islanders. Reiner knew that the people of the island are never demons, they each have a different personality from the other, but he said it differently so that his mother does not know that he is not afraid of them.

I'm sure someone said it, but Reiner's threatening of Falco and then inconsistent dialogue after was him telling Falco to shut the fuck up and work quietly to save Gabi so he doesn't get punished for insubordination.
