- I was finally able to find a box of Winchester Long Beard XR to try out in my Winchester SXP 12 Gauge. I patterned 3 different Chokes at 30 yards. This is my favorite shell to date. Watch the video to see why!

I’ve been shooting Winchester 3 in Long beards # 6s for years thru a Carlson longbeard choke. The pattern was low and right I put a truglo gobble dot pro open site fully adjustable on the vent rib adjusted the site to the pattern it is devastating pattern if you shoot it like a rifle do your part dead bird out to 55 yds every time.
Yes the long beard xr is epic. And so is that damn recoil. My God it's horrific with my 870. Wow!!
I have used the 3" with 1 3/4 oz #5's since they came out. I used them to put the lights out on 3 gobblers here in Tennessee this year. Great shells that pattern awesome!!!
I would definitely use 3 inch shells if I could find them right now. I pretty much convinced that these XR's are my go to shell now. Turkey season opens tomorrow for use here in Oregon. So hopefully I will get on some birds with them real soon. Thanks for watching!

i hear you about finding ammo, i have been looking for long beard 3" #4 for over 2 years. i used my very last long beard #5 shell opening day this year. so tonight i ordered 2 boxes of #4 i paid $20 too much but i REALLY wanted it, and now i can quit searching, im 49 and i figure 20 rds should be a life time supply.
I have the SXP also. I have 2 chokes, one is the Kick's Gobbling Thunder and the other is the Winchester Extended Turkey choke. I like the Long Beard XR in 3 inch, with #5 or #6 shot
That is my go to lead load. with my setup I feel confident out to 50 yards. That said the different tss loads are even better but very expensive!
I just found two boxes of Federal 3rd Degree TSS the other day. Hopefully making a video of it soon. I still have a week before turkey season opens here in Oregon. Hopefully I get to put all this patterning to good use! Thanks for watching!

Your gun shoots a bit low with the bead sight. Mine is low and left, so I found adjustable sights that mounts on the rib. It shoots on center, now. 3" XR #5 through a .665 is deadly at 35 yards. I'm sure it would kill at 40 (maybe more), but my confidence range is 35.
I've thought about some type of sight. But I use my SXP primarily for duck hunting. I've noticed my gun shoots pretty consistently low. Not sure how true how true it is, but I've been told by more than a few people that Winchester shotguns are designed to shoot low so your not covering up your target. Thanks for watching!
@@mitchweigel6713 They are not designed to shoot low, they are designed to shoot high. That way you have to hold them low in order to hit your target. They are designed to have the complete view of your target over the barrel. Sometimes you have to hold as much as a foot below the point you want to hit.
The long beards will kill out to 60 easily. I have taken 3 over 60. One each at 62, 63 and 64 yards. All one shot drops. But I had either a red dot or a scope on at the time to eliminate guessing.
@@bgdesignandsolutions You are absolutley right! My brain must have not been working at full capacity... LOL! Thats what I was trying to say. Aim low becuase they shoot high. So you don't cover your target and loose sight of it.
How to you like your SXP? I just got the exact same one.
It seems to be a pretty good shotgun for the money. I have had it for about 5 years now, and have had no issues. I shot a Remington 870 for years prior. It was a little hard to get use to. But I like it a lot. The action is super smooth. I like the feel of the more slender frame Vs per say a super nova with a wider fore grip. It shoots about a half pattern high at 40 yards. My understanding is that is a Winchester thing. In all honesty I would recommend one to anybody. My buddy Jeremy almost bought one the other day but decided to go with the Super Nova. what is the range that you are shooting at?
I believe 40 yards! I would have to watch the video again LOL! pretty sure it was 40 though.
Long Beard XR ammo is designed to be used specifically with a Long Beard XR choke. The combination is absolutely lethal.

I feel your pain. It's been hard all around the country. I see that Roger's sorting goods is showing turkey shells to be in stock soon. Hopefully you find some!
