Why You Should Play Ys Origin

- The journey through Ys continues, and this time it goes back to the beginning of the timeline. To the year 700 BA (before Adol) and the origins of many aspects that connect to the first two games.

Dude turn the music down. I can barely hear you.
This was my very first Ys title though I did the complete playthrough after Ys 1&2. Somehow I already feel nostalgic about these games even though it's not so many years ago that I've finished them.
Origin has the most refinied gameplay of this "generation" of Ys games but I think I slightly prefer Oath in Felghana overall. Nevertheless a great addition to the classic Ys story.
I like your videos about those games, they really deserve more viewers. As an advice I would recommend to lower the background music a bit so that your voice is more easily to understand.
Thanks, Firebreather, I'm glad you enjoyed the video. I will try to do better on the music in the future, less is more after all. At some point I hope to get to all the (localized) Ys games, so I can form my own opinions on favorite game, gameplay system, story, etc.
I'm nearly caught up with the Trails series and started looking into Ys today and, mygosh, the artwork in Ys Origin is beautiful.
I have always been partial to this era of Falcom artstyle, so I'm with you on that.
It's been a couple months since I found out about the Ys series, and I was so enthralled I decided to play all of them. The main/canon entries, anyway. I started with Felghana, which I truly loved, then moved on to Books I&II, followed by Kefin, Napishtim and yesterday I finished Origin (only to start it again immediately afterwards to play as Fact). I can't express how much love I've got for the series in this short time, I've read up on so much lore already I feel like a lifelong fan!
I've definitely felt that way with other game series, I'm really hoping that I'll keep enjoying the Ys games that I play.
Hopefully you played Lacrimosa already. Masterpiece
About the narration of the game... I'm french, and to be honest, I didn't even recognized the narration as french in the first place. I had to watch the intro a second time to identify it as french, and by Odin's name, my ears were bleeding even more than when I first heard Saint Seiya's french dub. Which is quite an achievment in itself. But hey, the game's good, and the soundtrack helped my ears to recover.
Fun fact by the way, as I'm from Britanny, the Ys series is based on the legend of the lost city of Ys, which is the Breton equivalent of the Atlantis' legend. So, the French narration of the game makes sense.
Well that's unfortunate on the French part, but I was fascinated when I learned about the lost city of Ys when I did some later research on the series. I wonder if they feature French in any other game in the series.
@@CommRio That's a good question, but as I'm doing the games in the chronological order, and haven't finished Ys Origins for now, I have no idea if they used French for narration in other games. Maybe in Ys IX, since from what I understood it takes place in Not-Earth equivalent of Paris ? Or in an eventual remake of Ys I&II since it takes place in Not-Earth's Britanny ?
Thank you for this amazing video on ys origins I'm really hoping to get this game for Christmas for my Nintendo switch I am a huge fan of these games and this one looks absolutely gorgeous and stunning my first ys game ever to get me into the series was ys seven been in love with the ys series ever since so I know that I will love ys origins
Glad you've enjoyed the series so far, and I'm sure Origin will be another highlight in your Ys play through

I'm currently playing Y's origin and wanted to see how similar theme-wise were the floors of the Darm tower between Y's Ancient and Vanished and Y's Origins. It's been a while since I played Y's I and II so I don't really remember what floor was which.
From what I remember of both there's some crossover between the themes, but they don't line up directly floor to floor. It's more like Origin was inspired by the previous design but mostly did its own thing.
Bro music in videos is too loud. Please turn it down a bit
I feel like I’m in a winter wonderland
The next YS you should play is Oath in Felgana!. It's a remake of Ys 3, while Memoreis of celceta is a remake of Ys 4.
So I decided to play Memories of Celceta because I'm going in story order rather than in release order since the events of Celceta take place before Felgana. I do expect I will get to each of the games eventually.
@@CommRio whatever. Just remember that Celceta is made in a much newer Ys seven engine than Felgana's Napistim engine and it follows the new Party gameplay introduced in that.
Can you explain how ys 4 the mask of the sun compares with ys 4 the dawn of ys?
I only played ys 3, but they all seem interesting. It seems like there are so many versions of ys games on multiple platforms. They should make a compilation.
@@newgameaaaa You can find all the latest remakes on Steam.
Ys 1&2 are often bundled together, as they are the only ones with a real connected story.
Ys 3 has been remade into Ys: Oath in Felgana using the Ark engine from Ys 6.
Ys 4 had originally been released into 2 very different games. The Dawn of Ys was very good. The mask of the Sun was a train wreck, but because in the first they gave a finality with Adol retiring, they consider only the bad one cannon. Now they have remade that as Memories of Celceta in an updated Ys7 engine combining aspects of both scenarios.
Ys 5 was bad, and the only one of the old ones no having been remade.
From Ys 6 onward is the point where the series got revived and started again coming out regularly. The only issue with these "recent" games (namely Ys 6 & 7) is that they later used their engine to remake Ys 3, 4 and Origins, and since they had much more experience by that point, the prequels ended up being better than the sequels.

@@KiteGr Wow thanks. I meant a compilation on a physical disc with the originals and remakes. I'm writing this down to keep track.
They definitely are the gods of rpgs. They just put so much detail and effort into their games
So, you can actually play as Adol. Just requires you to unlock the third character, and beat the game with him (or all three?) on Nightmare mode. No story to be found playing as him though.
I have just finish the story of the girl and now i am playing ar hugo ( the boy ) i enjoy this after i finish this game where should i go as I didn’t play Ys at all just this one , thanks for this video .. 🌹
Glad to hear you're enjoying the game. If you want a gameplay experience close to what you have with Origin there are two options. Ys Oath in Felghana and Ys The Ark of Napishtim. If you want to see what Ys Origin is the origin story for though you could check out Ys 1 and 2 Chronicles+. Good luck with whatever you choose to play next.
only can hear the music instead of the commentary
yeh lol way too loud
I want Y's Origin for the PS4, but I don't know which version I should get. There are 3 different English covers.
They are most likely all the same. Limited Run seems to have published a retail edition, and they usually make lots of alternative versions a boxarts.
I suggest you get them on steam though, as there are the most and latest editions of the series.
I don't agree with comments. Reviewers often like the sound of their own voice. I can hear you and the music just fine. Impressive game. If you like birds eye view Zelda's, you'll like this. I prefer more colourful worlds and was nearly put off this by it all being in a tower. It's one of those games when I thought wow what a great find. Well worth buying. Great intense fun. I do recall a little bit of grind to level up but not a deal breaker.
Speak for yourself. I can barely hear him. The music is crazy loud in comparison.
2:30 MUSIC TOO LOUD CANT HEAR SHIT
Can't hear a single word you're saying lmfao
