I played the Gamecube version growing up in the 2000's. I assure you, the English dub is quite the acuired taste BUT most fans will say it did have a charm. Myself included. Other than that, great video! Im surpised you didnt mention how convoluted the spirit numbers could get in battle.
Regarding the soundtrack of this game, this is expected from the same person who did the music for both the Tales of and Star Ocean series, Motoi Sakuraba. Though I would say that this (alongside Baten Kaitos Origins) is his most original work from what I've heard.
This game actually turned me off to card based battles completely. The moment my first healing item went bad I stopped playing it completely. The crappy voice acting and the dated camera angles weren't keeping me invested either.
I can see how that could happen for some players. As I said it's not a system I actually liked even if I respected the idea behind it, I was just able to move on and ignore it pretty quickly.

They absolutely can get convoluted, especially towards the end, but I think that's a system that is best learned via playing.
Love your videos, I am playing this game right now. Looking forward to your next baten kaitos video
Thank you! I'm looking forward to continuing with Origins in the not-too-distant future. Hope you enjoy the first game
Thank you for the detailed review!

What with me playing Baten Kaitos followed by Star Ocean The Second Story R it's been a heavy Sakuraba themed gaming month
Thanks for the great review! With the recent pc launch and summer sale, I am looking to pick this up for the Steam Deck!
It's a great time to get the game certainly
Very informative video! I plan to play the remaster next year once there is not so much games coming out.
Best of luck with that, hopefully you enjoy when you get around to it.
