Detroit..once the great city, founded in 1701. People came from all over the world to visit it..once called..'The Paris of the U.S.' Since, 1970, Detroit has lost over forty percent of it's population. My Grandparents, owned a grocery store at W. Jefferson and Wanmaker, from the 20's through 69'. They closed it down after the 67' riots when the area became to dangerous. My mother graduated from Cass Tech in 1940. My father was a engineer at Packard back in the late 40's. My parents moved to Bloomfield Hills in 1963..and to be honest haven't looked back. I drove down Woodward, through Highland Park, the other day, and truth be told..I was pretty nervous. And yes, I have lived in Chicago for ten years and lower Manhattan for a couple. So, unless you live in very tight radius in Detroit.. it's still a very dangerous city to live.
I have lived in Detroit downtown since 1991. I always enjoyed the city, despite its reputation and dangerous aspects, and I can certify that in the last five years the city downtown and Midtown has absolutely exploded into a wonderful place to live in. Many of the neighborhoods surrounding still need a lot of attention, and frankly, I don’t know if they will ever get it. However, the city core is absolutely fabulous. It’s such a cool city, so much to do, great architecture and people, wonderful restaurants and parks. Canada is five minutes away and a great place to visit during the day, Belle Isle since the state is taking over is absolutely beautiful, it’s the largest island city park in the United States and looks wonderful. Great museums, fabulous sports venues, tons of restaurants, there’s so much to do it’s really a great place to live in. I always find it amusing with the haters on here who absolutely refuse to acknowledge what’s going on, they generally live miles and miles away, or have never returned in recent years, yet continue to to trash it all the time. Live here, like I have for the last 25 years plus and I can certify that this town is turning around beautifully.
Despite its persistent serious problems, Detroit is still one of the best cities in the US. It is a historic architectural treasure chest that contains the world’s third largest collection of historic older skyscrapers built before 1930. It has beautiful radial thoroughfares and a very impressive waterfront. It has a world class art museum and beautiful parks. The people are very friendly and down to earth. It has all the professional sports and it is a major music and entertainment hub. I always wanted to come and visit Detroit and spend some time exploring this interesting historic city. Many of my family, relatives, and friends felt that I needed psychiatric help for listing Detroit as one of my favorite cities however I ignored their negative ignorant opinions since most of them are either scared of Detroit or just hate the city for no apparent reason. I hope that Detroit continues on its path of revitalization and economic diversification.
Detroit is a historic architectural treasure chest with some of the most beautiful pre depression skyscrapers like the Guardian, the Penobscot, the David Stott and the Book Towers. Friendly people and so much history because Detroit is way older than cities like St Louis, Chicago, Cleveland, Buffalo, and Pittsburgh.

Born and raised in Detroit. I can tell you without watching this video that it is propaganda. The people and leadership of Detroit in the last 25 years have virtually destroyed all the great houses and neighborhoods there. Schools have been closed. It's beyond the "ghetto" stage....it is a war zone and wasteland after you get out of the downtown area. Downtowns do not make a city alone. A lost generation lives in Detroit and it's going nowhere. It's very telling that this video is staying within the downtown area alone.
@@nobrang5146 "Fearmongering" ? Then I suggest you take a long ride throughout the city outside the downtown area and then talk about the "ignorance" of my comment.
There are vast areas with land that is available for development...especially on the east side. Gentrification has spread into the zone that is adjacent to the downtown area and all of the factories that were once a part of the riverfront have been leveled. In their places are parks that are connected by bike trails from downtown to the Grosse Point border. Riverfront condominiums, apartments and other real estate has been/is being built facing the Detroit River. It’s a great time to be in Detroit. Especially for a developer of land that has been cleared off and primed for new structures. In the past two years...the Lafayette Park area is being refurbished, there are new businesses near the Indian Village area...the homes and apartments along Jefferson Avenue are being restored. The Fisher Building is being restored...there are some multimillion $ homes that were built near the Edison plant (formerly known as the 5 sisters, 2 brothers) also condominiums. These are east side developments. I have not looked into the Westside developments. If I had money to invest in new real estate ventures/developments in Detroit, I’d jump in now before it’s too late. Downtown has been built up to capacity...hopefully the plans to connect downtown to Ann Arbor by light rail comes to fruition.
Best video of the city of Detroit by far, nothing new, but Beautiful images. Nice Editing wording love yr Camera settings. Great job keep up the good work, we need this type of talent in Detroit,
I love that you did this video! I grew up in Detroit and the narrative that I would often hear from outsiders always had me like 😒...”but, how are you going to tell me about the city I grew up in”. Like most places, there are developed and under developed areas. “Good parts”/“bad parts”. Just with the decline of the auto industry there was clear economic impact. But, let’s not forget the gospel, jazz, electronic, rock, rap and sports. Talk about grit, grind, humility and realness all mixed into one place. This is Detroit.
Thankyou, yea Detroit has always had that fighting spirit and I think that is what is helping it to come back. Most cities have had their decline, but Detroit is one of them that is showing a resurgance. Ofcoarse this virus doesn't help right now, but that is temporary.
I’ll be in Detroit this February for the first time since the 1980s I’m really looking forward to seeing how much this city has changed since my last visit there.
*I was born in Detroit and they were saying Detroit is coming back when I lived there. I visited back in 2013 and even hearing and seeing things on the internet of Detroit building downtown. The problem is that the only thing that seems to be coming back is downtown but the inner city and the way people run the city needs to change. It's still a very boring place to live and I pray that Detroit comes all the way back because I've always said that Detroit has so much potential. I'm so glad that I don't live there any more.*

Detroit is a great place to live. I know this because I live here. It is not the most beautiful city because the development of the place puts a lot of emphasis on ease of getting around in a car. However, people here are really nice. It is just unfortunate that it has got a bad reputation outside. I love it here and I see this place as a hidden gem.

People need to be careful in saying what people caused this and that to go bad . And because of them - the city failed . I will tell anyone , it is a strange world and blessings in disguise . I am no angel . I was born and raised there . I used to sit in the middle of the most damaged vacant homes you could think imaginable . I used to go in them and read my comic books .Some of them looked so bad - I had to go in , in the daytime , so I would know where to run at night .I used them to separate my self from the larger bully kids . If they ever followed me in there - I was going to make sure They were not coming out . I had my pre - selections - from bowling allies to residential houses . I felt safe in them - spent a lot of time in them .From the vacant yards , broken glass with protruding nails and splinters and busted parts - never got so much as a scratch . Never owned boots. Only sneakers . I'm definitely no angel .Spent a lot of time laying on the concrete bleeding . I know what the real Detroit is . I have tasted it , felt it , breathed the very fibers . From the sharp edges of the burnt wood , to the beautiful women I was there with .The city made me .It made me a tough person .I have retired from two different govt jobs with over 20 years in each .One of those was the Marine Corps . I retired from them in 96 .Retired from Arizona position in 2017 . Detroit will do things . It will make person tough or they will go down in flames .I don't believe in going down in flames .I have never burned one of my vacant houses with flames - the only flames I ever knew was on the logo of the Detroit Red Wings . Out in Arizona , the back bone of there economy is real estate . Someone falls behind on payments out here and banks ready to throw e'm in the streets . Over- inflated housing costs will be the death of things out here . Already people can't afford housing in California , Arizona and other big areas . It will only get worse . Detroit will be least of concerns . Others will be moving in that direction , they just don't know it yet .
I LOVE my former home. My mom was born & raised in Detroit. My relatives on her side all lived there. I lived there through my teens & twenties. Graduated from high school there & got my first full time job in downtown Detroit when I was 17. Transferred in my job to Phoenix, AZ when I was 27, but I've always loved & missed my home town. Return frequently because I still have family & friends there. I LOVE the Great Lakes. My BF had a boat & we were always out on the Detroit River or Lake St. Clair.
It looks nice from downtown being redeveloped, but that's just an area of roughly 7 square miles in a city of over 140 square miles. There are still plenty of inner city residential neighborhoods that are in rough shape and won't be revitalized for decades.
I've always knew Detroit would eventually make a comeback! My last visit was around 2005. My first was in 1977 when it was booming. I am certain that it still has a long way to go, especially in the residential areas. There are miles of abandoned and dilapidated communities and structures but thanks to the entrepreneurs and investors, there is hope! Hats off to those who stayed behind and endured through it all.
It was bigger than it is now in 1977 but to call it booming isn't true when it was actually losing people like crazy at the time. I like watching stuff from those Coleman Young years because there was always this hope that the decline had stopped and Detroit was gonna make a come back. By the early 90's the city pulled out all the stops to get a million people counted in the census redo but besides that nobody was kidding themselves anymore about the city coming back.
@I speak The truth Most people in Detroit can't get out, but its getting better and there is a new sense of hope. The people of Detroit love Detroit and always will,There is a feeling of unity in the fact that were getting through this together and things are finally taking a turn for the better, why shit on that? Also not the worst in the country anymore
Thank You for this excellent video😊👍 I had no idea how pretty downtown Detroit is. Beautiful architecture and greenery. Also LOVE the people mover, what fun!😁
At this point, *everybody* could use some great conservative leadership, or failing that at least some libertarian options instead. The issue has long since not been how a people should be governed, only to what extent. Leftism is a social disease.
@@PeterDivine Yes, do us a favor and tell us how well the south is doing under right wing conservative leadership... the true welfare states that receive an abundant amount federal dollars compared to what they pay in. Last in GDP, education and just worth in general, practically worthless.
@@Helmuesi911 The fact that your poverty rates in Cali and New York, two ostensibly tech-based societies, need to be compared to the poverty rates in agricultural societies like Alabama and Mississippi at all is telling enough. Does it not strike you as odd that all the legislation the left pushes for shrinking the gap between the rich and the poor, seems to do nothing but exacerbate it? You pass welfare laws, and create a state of welfare dependents; you pass minimum wage laws, and people lose their jobs en masse; you pass mandatory healthcare for full-time employees, and everyone gets their hours slashed to part-time. The rich get rich because they lead companies and organizations that they can adjust for laws of supply and demand as needed. Middle- and lower-class people are job dependent, however, and when their bosses inevitably slash their pay or their jobs to cut down on wage expenses to compensate, they automatically become another statistic in the unemployment line. Do not talk to me about how "successful" your liberal examples are when California ranks dead fucking last in QOL and holds over 1/4th of the homeless in the _entire country,_ despite flouting the "fifth largest economy on earth" title thanks to a few trillionaires in palace-mansions who laugh at the poor shitting in the streets and getting high in slumville tent cities. Any city that demands you need a salary 50% higher than the national average just to maintain middle class status is FUBAR. You can blow smoke up my ass all you want; you can't blow it up the asses of the middle-class who have had enough after decades of Democrat incompetence and are leaving _en masse._
I was born and raised in Michigan, but just moved to the city about a half year ago. And I have to say...it is really a culture that is heartwarming and wonderful. What's great about the city is that all the assholes stay in the suburbs. There is no reason to fear the city as long as you stay out of the worst parts. But even so...I do not feel unsafe at all in any part of the city. When I drive down West Buchanan street, for instance, I see nothing but potential for growth. I live in West Village and I adore my neighborhood. I love all the little things...going down to the corner market, riding my bike downtown, enjoying the gritty nooks and crannies. If you have no appreciation for beauty or uniqueness, you will hate the city. But if that's the case, PLEASE stay in the suburbs so that Detroit city continues to have a nice culture full of wonderful people of all backgrounds.

Thank you so much for showing some of the nicer areas of Detroit. All these videos, all they want to show, is the desolate, burned-out, screwed up parts. But Detroit is just like any other big city. It's got bad parts, and it's got beautiful parts. And it seems that all anyone ever wants to focus on is the bad parts. For once we have a video that shows the nice side of Detroit. Detroit is a beautiful city. You just need to know where to look. And this video shows a few of those more attractive parts. I mean, you have no idea. If all you look at are those nasty videos that show all those desolate scenes with burned-out houses... Try and Google "Indian village"... look at the video on Indian village and tell me about Detroit? Look at Palmer Park or Sherwood Forest. There is a lot of beauty to be found in Detroit. The images in this video... The Renaissance Center have you ever visited there? Try it and then see its image of wealth and Perfection. It is spotless! Yes it's a confusing maze, it's a city unto itself, it has its own ZIP code like they said, but it is amazing! Don't kill Detroit until you've seen what it really has to offer. This is a world-class City with every Museum, Hotel, Zoo, every attraction that any large city would have... we've got it, and then we've got some extra shit too! We have got it all here! Fast fact... Belle Isle, the largest island park in the nation... Yeah .... bigger than Central Park in New York people... let's hear it, bigger than Central Park! And it is beautiful. It is beautiful too. It is one Island out in the middle of the water that is just completely gorgeous. And there's everything.... Forest and streams, and it's really something to see and all we have to do is drive over a bridge to get to it. It is otherwise completely available to us as Detroiters! So, yes, there are neighborhoods that are burned-out, screwed up ... but if you can't see past that, if you can't see the city for what it really has to offer... everything that is.... we are on those lighted neighborhoods then you're just ....being blind, because there is a gorgeous shining City beyond that which is on the surface. There is a really pretty, beautiful, workable, livable city, beyond those stupid nasty videos that they show you. We live here, and we love it, and it is amazing, and there's so much more Than what those bad videos show you. There's so much more... the only way you could know would be to come here and see for yourself.
It is all the early American 19th century architecture mixed in with mid century skyrises, that makes it look so Americana sliced in with the modern building. That is what makes cities like Detroit along with Midwestern cities that had declined, so nice to revitalize, the all have great bones that can't replicated.
Yes most of the city looks a lot worst than this. The downtown area only covers 7 of its 141 sq miles of the city. However, I view it as they have to start somewhere and it will eventually spread into the neighborhoods. It may take a while but it will happen. It's going to more than a few years to turn a city this size around. Plus city services has been improving under the current mayor(excluding the public schools which is a mess).
Yea, it is interesting comparing those 2 cities SF & Detroit. While many would rate SF above Detroit, and might be now, but they are moving in opposite directions. SF seems to be doing down, and Detroit seems to be on their way back up.
A lot of the abandoned buildings like the historical Michigan Central Station need remodeling and refurbishing. Detroit definitely needs some more tourist attractions like a few more museums, churches, amusement parks, and shopping centers

I lived in Midtown. And I truly miss it. I got to see it change for the better. I gotta great deal of love and respect for the people of Detroit.

I'm from the UK but something about Detroit fascinates me
Born and raised in Detroit. It's very telling that this video is staying within the downtown area alone.
topgeardel I'd prefer to not drink the kool aid off this comment. Not up for ignorance and fearmongering. That has no room here
@@nobrang5146 "Fearmongering" ? Then I suggest you take a long ride throughout the city outside the downtown area and then talk about the "ignorance" of my comment.
Clearly it shows the good part of Detroit, but Detroit is still getting better economically throughout.
It will be gentrified in 5 years just like Los Angeles.....give it time
There are vast areas with land that is available for development...especially on the east side.
Detroiters have always had an Attitude like a Phoenix " we rise from the ashes!" Dust ourselves off and keep pushin!
Detroit's official city motto is Latin for "We hope for better things // It shall rise from the ashes" Fun facts.

Educate yourself and be an entrepreneur or get a career in whatever is thriving in the area! Bitching doesn’t fix anything actions do!

Nothing like synth intro to validate up and coming growth. I still like this video

We the people know what detroit needs is a great conservative leadership.
At this point, *everybody* could use some great conservative leadership, or failing that at least some libertarian options instead. The issue has long since not been how a people should be governed, only to what extent.
Leftism is a social disease.
@@PeterDivine
Yes, do us a favor and tell us how well the south is doing under right wing conservative leadership... the true welfare states that receive an abundant amount federal dollars compared to what they pay in.

It sure is, and kind of quietly. Many people are unaware of it. While other cities in the north are going downhill, Detroit is rising.
Yes I agree, I felt completely safe in the city while shooting the video, it seemed as safe as any city we have shot in.

Very well said, thankyou.
Very well said....id like to expand on your thoughts but can't say it any better than you have
You are 100% correct on your assessment of the city. The best is yet to come. 🇨🇦

Is this the most quintessential American city? As a non-American, this just screams America to me
It is all the early American 19th century architecture mixed in with mid century skyrises, that makes it look so Americana sliced in with the modern building.
Coolest name of any city
it’s droite in french. it means (go) straight
Droite means right...
Groovy soundtrack. Love it!
SF Bay Area native here, but I'm quietly rooting for this city. I've never been but I love Detroit.
Detroit style pizza is the best on earth too!
Yea, it is interesting comparing those 2 cities SF & Detroit. While many would rate SF above Detroit, and might be now, but they are moving in opposite directions. SF seems to be doing down, and Detroit seems to be on their way back up.
I've been back in Detroit after 21 years of being away and it is culture shock to me there are so many people and it is always so busy
Love Detroit I’m from Windsor across the Ambassador bridge
To spend a day in Windsor do u need to show a passport or just ID ? Driving over from Detroit
Enhanced Drivers license or Passport
that video was shot with love!
What a beautiful video. I live in Germany. Would love to visit Detroit.
Thankyou for the nice words. God bless Germany.
Nice to see Detroit progress. I love the Big D
I hope it comes back strong like it was back in the day.
A lot of the abandoned buildings like the historical Michigan Central Station need remodeling and refurbishing. Detroit definitely needs some more tourist attractions like a few more museums, churches, amusement parks, and shopping centers
Michigan Central is getting renovated. Ford is sinking a bunch of money into the old girl.
Make Detroit Great again 👍
Beautiful shots of the rent cent building on the big d river. thanks ..
Thankyou for the nice words
God Bless Detroit. Love you
Great video!!
thankyou for the nice words.
Thinking of moving my family here in about 5 years from Wisconsin
I'm born and raised in Detroit and I'm telling you this video is a false representation of the city. This shows you where the casinos and more wealthy (Many wealthy from stealing money from the city) live. If you want to see what most of Detroit actually looks check this video out. ua-cam.com/video/VTKEx0N0DCY/v-deo.html I know its hard to believe but its true
Lol
you should. all Wisconsin or at least Milwaukee is, is a racist suburb of Chicago.
I would personally rather live in Detroit than Chicago.
Don't.
@@ahmedbokhari7048 why?
Wow great video👍
Thankyou for the nice words
Do You live in Detroit?
