We're the developers of the game! I'm so glad you played it and didn't hate it! We'll look into the soft lock issue you experienced ASAP and if anyone has questions about it or anything, I'll try my best to answer. Quick p.s. The game gets a little crazier as it goes on, so I wouldn't suggest it for children (we're cranky 30 somethings, and our humor is... Well... It isn't for kids... 14 and up I'd say... ) ALSO, I totally agree we need a new cover, the current one was a rush job to get something out in time. I may look into Fiverr or give it another go, but taking more time. Ok, that's it. Thank you again and great video!
There is a game that just came out, called Shashingo or smth like that, you basically fotograph things in a japanese street setting and the game will show you what the word is in japanese, you can also let the game show you random things and you have to fotograph the right thing, neat
Games like these are a fun concept, but in the end it's often just a bit of a drag. For most who probably really want to learn it, would probably use some book or other online resources.
Yup, good point. People may not judge a BOOK by it's cover, but they'll sure as sh** judge a game (or video) by their thumbnails. Neat little blend of learning the language and some customs, though. Thanks, fella~! What sorts of wacky things will Mudan get up to tomorrow?
We need to realize that the entire society is mainly judging book by its cover. Our generation has been taught wrong and now I'm resetting my mindset. Food presentations, job interviews, user interfaces, dress code, ... So yeah, the thumbnail is a fair criticism
Okay so I'm on day 1306 of Duo. I'm just a casual learner who just does it so I can get by when I visit and also just because I really enjoy learning. As well as Duo I use books and a couple other apps (both intermittently) and watch Japanese study UA-cam and play games (mostly otome) with Japanese audio. I saw Ludwig briefly play Shashingo and that looks like a great game to up your vocab, so that's next on my list to try. I know I'm never going to be fluent, tbh I'll be lucky if I ever reach N4, cos I have a stupid brain and other issues but I'm just enjoying the journey, and just hoping when I finally am able to have a Japanese conversation with another human being that I don't just fully blank, or that my stupid lack of confidence doesn't completely eff me up 🤞🏻
Fully agree! Hiragana and Katakana are small sets and contain minimal information, so using visualisation and mnemonic techniques on them is not efficient at all. Rote learn them. Save visualisation and mnemonics for Kanji
Kana Bimoji and Hiragana / Katakana Memory Test(?) were my saviours for learning the basics of Japanese at uni, super easy to use apps, highly recommend
I’d say this is probably really good for people who have recent interest in Japan if that makes sense. Learning about language elements and culture all at once is a really good idea if you know very little about Japan and would probably hold interest, but if you already know either language points, cultural aspects, or both, it’s probably less viable. As you said, good for kids but I’d also say good for newer interested people and probably teenagers too
Was expecting a shit game (especially with the key art), but this looks surprisingly promising. With some more work this can actually become a legit good game to learn japanese with.
This looks pretty cool to play from time to time to help with the other methods to learn the language and Mudan knows the true meaning of "Will of D!!!"
I personally don't like duolingo. Mostly because the order in which it teaches things is a bit weird, but I also feel like it's way better at teaching pattern recognition than the actual language.
Exactly, I've used Duolingo before for English and Japanese and some stuff that come up is really weird. I'll never forget the day I had to translate the quote "The polar bear likes to drink wine". That was when I figured that the app wasn't useful for acquiring the language, only for _maybe_ some review and vocabulary. Immersion works far better in the long run imo.
Duo for pooping is solid, but try adding Learn Japanese - Kanji Study. They go in JLPT order, so you learn important/common words and their kanji/kanji combos first
Learning any language is hard but going from English to Japanese is real hard. I use Duo, Pimsleur, UA-cam, Twitch streamers, anime, flash cards and Genki textbook/workbook plus a hiragana/katakana writing ✍🏻 book. I’m 6 months into study and I was able to read “I’m sorry” in my Japanese manga and understand it 😅
1:52 if you are unsure if something is katakana or hiragana, you can say kana. Kana is a group word for both of the readings! fightooo! kagami in katakana = カガミ kagami in hiragana = かがみ
plz mudan day 2 of begging you not to use duolingo. you can do the same 5-10 mins a day while pooping using renshuu or an anki deck and get way more return. duolingo is the candy crush of language learning.
The visualization just makes it worse for me, I learnt Hiragana and Katakana by brute forcing (It didn't took that long), Kanji and the vocabulary is now the biggest obstacle.
1 stack of days of asking Mr Mudan to start in a random area of Tokyo and compete with babysitter and foxie to see who can find the most small hidden shrines in the back alleys and rooftops of Tokyo in a day!
Day 50 of asking Mudan to climb Mount Fuji. But first wait for the trails to open again. (Big 50) That game actually looks interesting. And Duolingo (at least for basic words) is not that bad either. (cries in 685 day streak)
Best way to really learn Japanese? Just get Pokemon BW and play it in JP. There's kana and kanji options, and you'll learn more by traversing through that. And then you'll realise why you need kanji in JP.

Just as a recommendation, you should go visit the Parasitological Museum in Meguro and eat torisashi (raw chicken sashimi) afterwards.

Mudan, try Shashingo. It's a fun mini game for learning Japanese by taking pictures.

Is Mudan now officially qualify as 'Nihogo Jouzu'?
I think so
He gotta collab with Dogen to find out
Maybe he is still at level Nihongo bouzo
Time to flex to Mudan. Current streak : 861 days. 😎

the fact that mudan only has 80k subs is criminally underrated.
I can just imagine Mudan being in a bar, not knowing a word, running home to google it and then running back to the bar to say it.
