Great vid, Josh. Can't beat a Welsford! Thank you from the cold coast of New Hampshire in the states. A beautiful boat!

Another great video thanks Josh! The new boat looks like she'll be fantastic once you sort out all the little quirks. Navigators have a great reputation, so I'm really looking forward to your seeing your progress. I'm sure lots of us are eager to see a 'boat tour' video when you get the chance.
Re the sheeting of the main: it sounds like you're on the right track - people often instal a much thinker sheet than necessary because they think it needs the strength (bigger sail = bigger sheet) and it's more comfortable on the hands. As you suggest, just try a smaller diameter line in the first instance to reduce the friction. Also, given the size of the main, you probably don't need that level of mechanical advantage. The 4:1on the end of the boom plus the additional run down through the ratchet block (making it around 5:1 in total) might be an over-kill.
    Enjoy the new boat!

My vote would be to silicone-spray all the pulley blocks and put the main sheet itself through the wash with a little fabric softener. Thanks for another great video.

Great stuff Josh. She looks a beauty. Much more roomy and comfy (as well as speedy) than the Heron 😀. Hope to see you both in person on the water soon.

We keep missing each other TB. Yes, a great boat, now on to the repairs and modifications! Take care. Josh

Hi josh, I have had to put up the mast, drop it, and put it up again. Generally because I have forgotten to fit the wind indicator. In my case it is not unfamiliarity, more old age forgetfulness ! Great looking new boat, hope to sail with you and the crew in the future. Cheers, Phil. For the sloppy centerboard, maybe try to get some low friction plastic bushes turned up.

Thanks Phil. Hope this weather goes away so we can all get out there! Centreboard repair is underway, will show it off in later video. Take care, Josh

In my Lido I could switch my mechanical advantage on the fly depending on what the wind was doing. I don't think I ever did it underway but based on forecast and actual perceived conditions pre-launch I would set my mainsheet accordingly. Subscribed!

We are usually sailing at the destination for those seaplanes! I think you should crowdsource the name - maybe it could be the RAID Sydney Friday poll?

I had not seen them come down to Bayview before, Palmy of course, but freaking taxiing up the Bayview channel?

Great film, well done. A couple of comments, you need more tension on the jib halyard as it's sagging away and will prevent you pointing closer to the wind. And yes a thinner mainsheet will reduce friction but you could just reduce the mechanical advantage in light winds.

Thanks for the tip. I could have used the winch on the jib halyard- will try it next time!

Mmm stuck in the doldrums , heaved too , where's the bloody fishing rods mate??? Throw a couple of crab pots in on the way out pick 'em up on the way back. That's what the outboard is for. LOL

Looks great Josh. Gotta love those days where you go from afternoon nap to madness : ) I'd try one less loop in the main. I think you'll find that's plenty of mech advantage and makes it a lot easier to get the main out when you need to. (saves on line too! : )
On my standing lug rigged Navigator, I have a 2/1 on my main and have never considered that I needed more than that.

Hi Tim. This was a while ago now. Have sorted many of the little problems now. Just finishing up the cockpit renovation this weekend and that will do for a while. Josh

where do you get aluminum spars for a sloop rigged navigator? Trying to decide between building wooden ones or buy aluminum.

Yes Dave, I need to put together some sleeping arrangements as her first cruise is in two weeks! It might be a bit ad hoc to begin with. Thanks for watching, take care.

What are you doing with the tiller at about 6 minutes? It looks like you're stirring a rice pudding!

You may have only needed to push the boom out because it was such light winds. If you have more force on the sail due to stronger breeze it might be less of an issue? I am more of a novice that you however so I will defer to those with greater knowledge/experience. Overall looks like a lovely boat. You can see the extra weight and stability compared to the heron.

    • @DinghyCruisingKingfisher
      @DinghyCruisingKingfisher  2 роки тому

Yes, I think light breeze was part of it but was slow to let go when I dumped the main while healing. Could just be used to the quick response from the heron too.
