JIGGING and LIVE-BAITING/SYDNEY KINGFISH

- A work trip down to Sydney lined up with some good weather, allowing us to get out on a charter to chase some kings.
The morning started out chasing some live-bait in the form of first squid, then yakka's and slimy's. Once we got plenty of live-bait in close, the skipper pushed out to the reef we were fishing and dropped some baits.
Early on it was a little rough and the bite was slow but we were managing one hook-up every drift. The yakka's were getting all the attention and all the fish were taking them, not a jig or slimy.
After a while the bit picked up and with some adjustments to the jigging technique, we started getting fish after fish. 4 way hook-ups were starting to happen and I got three kings in 3 drops on a 180grm jig.
Finally the bite slowed, a seal turned up and we had to get to the airport for fights. Seen a couple whales on the trip in with the beautiful backdrop od Sydney harbour.
Fun times mate. Plague numbers of rat kingies. Good chewin the smaller ones for sure!
Was a heap of fun hey!!
Yeah, the local boys kept a few for a feed.
Hit and miss up here as they get a parasite.
@110 for a small king…. That can be a good thing. Big ones at that depth stretch the arms. Me getting old, looking for electrics at that depth. Thanks for sharing again.
Long way down!!
I’m used to under 20m… 🤣🤣😍
Good fun in the jig 😍
Awesome 😎
Cheers mate!
Nice one lads 🤙🏼🤙🏼
Was good hey, heaps of fish.
Is it normal that the other boats come in so close. Seems like they saw you catching fish and came in close to get onto your spot.
I recon it’s pretty normal for that reef mate
@peterherbstfishing1735 I guess that's fair enough, as there are not many other spots out there.
@@Matt7337S as long as people stick to the bag limits, it’s all good.
Any tips for jigging at that depth? I use a 200gram jig but my line won’t stay vertical, but I have spot lock. Do I always have to be drifting to vertical jig?
Trying to match boat drift speed with current will help get the jig straight under the boat. Might have to use the electric to move the boat to do so.
12 mile?
Yeah I think so mate.
