- Hey Everyone, today we are taking a 35' Chris Craft Calypso from the yard in Pompano Beach down to its home in Coral Gables. It's a mostly slow cruise through Ft. Lauderdale, with a pretty good romp off shore for Part 1. Hope you enjoy!

I have a question: I’ve driven a lot of smaller twin outboards, and was surprised to see a similar throttle layout on this boat, which has three outboards. Is there a way to isolate the throttle function of the center engine with that throttle layout? How does that work?

Hey thanks for the comment! Great question, and it's very simple: on boats with 3 or more outboards, when you engage one throttle, it only uses the outboard engine. When you put port forward, starboard reverse, the throttle control puts only the outboard port engine forward, and the starboard outboard engine in reverse, the center engine(s) stays in neutral, until you place both throttles in forward gear. Even the boats now with 5-6 outboards will have only two throttles and operate in a similar fashion.
You don’t have your own offshore jacket with you ?
I would typically only wear one in heavy seas - that day was a bit choppy but not at all what I would consider dangerous conditions. How about you, do you always wear one offshore?
When i had my sea ray i would drop the nose ( trim all the way in ) and push through that stuff. Made for a smoother ride. Although you use a little more fuel. But it beats beating & banging. Was that boat trimmed all in ?
I was running with the trim tabs about halfway down, and yes for sure its a lot more comfortable cutting through with the bow. I could have used a bit more weight, or more bow length for the speed I was going to smooth it out
@@havenyachtdelivery58 i was actually wondering if the Motors were trimmed or are trimmable. I was running a Bravo 3. Ive never run 300hp Merc outboards. Can u trim the Motors out & in ? I Would think You should be able to. & im guessing u have Hydraulic trim tabs on the Boat too.
@@OcRefrig Gotcha. Yes they were trimmed, I always do it at least a little for the efficiency
What we lost when we went to 4 stroke is instant throttle response.
