YACHT DELIVERY Oyster 625 Sailing Bay of Biscay Mediterranean UK to Palma Dolphins

- Опубліковано 18 тра 2017
- A professional crew delivering an Oyster 625 from Ipswich, United Kingdom to Palma, Mallorca. My Grandson John Jun. will love the Dolphins. If the Dolphin film is a little long this is for my grand children to enjoy. The cameraman missed the whale! Enjoy.
The dolphins are just amazing. They're so confident and they know exactly what they're doing. Such an intelligent and beautiful creatures.
Fun fact: male dolphins are known for doing each other in the blowhole! They also gang rape females!
you prolly dont give a damn but does anyone know of a tool to log back into an instagram account??
I was dumb lost my login password. I love any tricks you can offer me.
@Nehemiah Immanuel Instablaster :)
Absolutely fantastic. The boat is pristine and you are flying. Great sailing!
Many thanks for your kind comment.
I regard a journey honoured by dolphins is always 'a privilege', the more the better. How they communicate across the vast expanse of the ocean and decide its fun to pay you a visit is incredible. Beautiful creatures and a sheer joy witness. I'm always excited to see them. EF
I agree and although I did not edit enough I make no apologies as my grandchildren wanted Dolphin footage. I had very nice experiences this summer in the north North Sea and Scotland with Bottlenose and White-Beaked. White-Beaked inbound from Stavanger to Peterhead :-)))))
these dolphins are so beautiful.
I realy enjoy this video very much.
Thank you Alex. I really enjoy seeing them too. ATB James
Phenomenal video, it really captures the joy of sailing
Deliveries are never as fun as sailing at leisure, with no time frame. Nonetheless ... it was a good, safe and incident free passage. Thanks for watching. James
Best dolphin video I've seen in a while.
Thanks for watching! Happy New Year. Stay safe.
Thanks so much for sharing this, looks like a wonderful sail!
Thanks .... we were lucky with the weather. A milk run!
Since retiring I've done a couple of deliveries, one was an Oyster 545 to Sweden, a fabulous boat. Never saw any dolphins sadly, but perhaps too far north. Enjoyed the trip hugely and although there's no money in it, I'd do it again at the drop of a hat. Even cooking underway which I've always dreaded was enjoyable. The only hard bit was at the end, cleaning and prepping the boat back to showroom condition ready for the owner to take back. Teaches you to keep it clean as you go I suppose. 204nm in 24 hours. Fabulous.
Thanks for watching Raymond. ATB James
Really enjoyed that, I'd love to do similar
Thank you
Again Captain :)
What a great passage, loved the editing.
So nice that you only have music when not sailing, the sound of the elements is half the expirience while at sea.
Cheers to you and the rest of the crew, for a successful and safe job.
Fair winds and following seas
Yes! I do sail with other people occasionally if working. It was a straight forward delivery in the end.
Fantastic video, thanks for sharing.
Thank you
Been there, done that crossing the Pacific and loved the pods of dolphins racing us across the water, marveled at the trail of phosphorescence off the stern of the boat, tossed flying fish off the deck back into the sea in the morning, held on tight while being tossed around in a storm.
Lovely comment Leo. Thank you. ATB James
So cool! ✌️
Oyster 625 is a beast. I wish I had one of them.
Absolutely fantastic journey. Greetings from Portugal.
Beautiful Portugal! I sailed alone to Madeira and The Azores in my own boat in 1998. Are there kinder people than the lovely Portuguese? I don't think so. ATB James
Glad you enjoyed it. You were going a bit slow but the dolphins loved it. They are wonderful souls.
Thanks Thomas ...
Thanks Thomas. And thank you for watching.
Beautiful, but wish you would have shown more of the boat. Down below with its set-up and fittings.
Yeah, agreed. It's still amazing though. I can't take my eyes away from watching just the Ocean's water)) I swear
Delightful. :)
How the hell do those dolphins propel themselves? They fly by, but nothing seems to be moving ???
Brilliant fantastic,
The only thing missing was showing the inside of the cabin.
Cheers
Thank you very much Paul. I'm afraid I am not very good with the camera ....
Great video guys hope that bird survived! thanks again.
Hi David. I've just done an Atlantic circuit single handed. On my way back to Falmouth from the Azores I had a guest for 48 hours. This bird drank the water and ate the cereals I gave it. It was tagged. ATB James
nice job & wel done !
Thank you.
It's very cool video, thanks
Thank you for watching
Awsome video and awsome Dolfins :) I did not know there were so many in the Coast of Portugal, but it seem that lately many have been spotted all over ...a good sign.
Plenty of Dolphins in those areas Biscay Atlantic Portugal and in to the Med. ATB James
Great sight no doubt! Also I have been in Berlengas and I think you guys were lucky passing in calm weather. The sea when I was there was terrible ... during summer it is a frequent tourist visit place, and during the day I visited that very small island, the sea in that region was awful. Big waves lots of wind. Great sailing!
Nice Islands. Yes! It includes the Costa da Morte for a very good reason. The heaviest weather I've seen has been in the Mediterranean and I'm not the only one who says this. And try the Thames Estuary in the wrong conditions. I prefer enough wind .... and if it were possible no waves !! And loads of sea room if it turns nasty :-)
Lovely film james, I will be making that trip in reverse in my cat, once I've repaired her !
Thank you for watching the video Paul. Fair winds and stay safe. ATB James
Fantastic !
Hi Niko. Thank you very much for watching. ATB James
@@samingosailing Great sealing James ! ;)
Great video, I have done that trip a couple of times but not on a brand new Oyster. Come on lottery.
I crossed Biscay alone in my own boat and sailed to Madeira and to the Azores. I was much happier doing my own thing and sailing solo. The delivery trip was well managed with a good, competent, professional crew. Thanks for watching.
This video wins an oscar for the MOST confusing title and the LEAST informative subtitles. Times, dates, coordinates...which are never together for some reason... SO confusing. AND they missed a whale... why not put it in the description. Well done!
10:14 they like to ride the bow wave that way it cost them less energy to swim though the water.
You can never have too much film of Dolphins :-)!
What a rocket ship!
Yes ... with a blow! Lighter airs she is a very efficient motor sailor.
Totally agree....62 Was Movin....!!!!!!
Wonderful....... ;-)
Thanks -
Looking Forward to More.....!!!!.... ;-)
so what speeds did u do under what wind. info pls!
With E 7's we were in double figures for the most part. But with her waterline that should be easy. She does not sail in light airs at all but she is a very efficient motor sailor. I've just crossed Biscay alone in my 37' (11 M) boat in fairly strong northerly winds and we averaged 7 which is very respectable. Me and my boat then sailed 800 NM in 5 days flat but my boat WILL sail in light airs. Thanks for watching. James
Well that was a coincidence. I was thinking exactly the same as you, just as you commented with the question about the possibility of dolphins colliding with yachts. At one point a dolphin is seen to suddenly change direction and cut directly across the bow in an almost kamikaze move. This prompted me into a little research and this is what I found. Reports of dolphin and whales being struck are on the rise. There is a somewhat more surprising report of a sperm whale intentionally attacking a yacht and leaving a whale size dent in its steel hull. The reason for this is unknown. I found many reports of injured dolphins possibly struck by yachts but more often faster powered vessels. Apparently there is a concern that recent advances in hull design and construction creating much faster and larger yachts will increase occurrences of whale and dolphins coming into contact with yachts. One line of research has suggested that strikes on whales and dolphins could be reduced if all vessels kept their depth sounders on. Obviously no-one wants to be in collision with any of these magnificent creatures. Just as you displayed in this video, most of us lucky enough to be in a position to observe dolphins close up, watch in ore and marvel at the skilful display of these creatures propelling themselves effortlessly through the yachts bow wake. Similarly most of us would be mortified if we did happen to collide with a dolphin or whale. I”m sure most incidents do not happen whilst dolphins play in the wake of a yacht, more likely its vessels approaching at speed or unheard at night. The whale or dolphin is likely to come off worse but preventing injury to one of these creatures could also prevent damage to a yacht. Maybe flicking that depth sounder switch on and leaving it on could be a positive first step for creature and vessel alike.
On a separate matter but relevant with this yacht, I am pleased to see that hundreds of jobs have been saved with Oyster Yachts being bought out of administration by Richard Hadida. Richard has commented that he has life long plans for Oyster so hopefully Oyster will remain in business producing beautiful world class yachts well into the future.
Thank you for making and posting this video, it has been very enjoyable. Keep up the good work.
I have never seen a sailing yacht come close to striking a Dolphin. I'm talking about max hull speed of about 10 knots of course. Not the much quicker race boats. I'm also pretty certain that the noise of an approaching sail boat of this size will be heard by these sensitive creatures long before a boat is amongst them. Striking a sleepy whale does happen. Quite a fright in the middle of the ocean! I'm told you think you've struck a reef. When whales come close at night they can give you quite a fright. Their presence only felt by the noise and of course the smell as they blow. I've understood whales can get agitated when mating or if they regard you as a threat OR mistake you for another whale. As for the many many different Dolphins you seem them skimming across the sea sometimes from far behind to catch up with a boat underway where they proceed to ride the bow wave and the wake. A very experienced French skipper I know has a theory that sometimes they try to turn the boat! But as David Attenborough said recently they often do it JUST for the sheer joy! Bernard Moitessier wrote that Dolphins saved him from striking a reef! Thanks for watching.
Did you see Dolphins?
Awwww Archibald! Did'na ya see them? My Grandkids liked em!
I love seeing these boat deliveries but I wish crews could also say few words about the boat being delivered.
Hi TK. Yup. Your right of course. This 625 was new but had been thoroughly commissioned by our skipper. Adrian new the boat inside out. The new owner wanted to take delivery in Palma. Insurance required three qualified crew for the delivery. The crew were required to join the skipper the night before departure. I've sailed quite a few boats and in my own time I sail alone. I have delivered one other brand new Oyster before this one. The 625 is a a very efficient motor sailor. In lighter airs she will not sail. As you see in the film she sailed beautifully in the strong winds we had across Biscay. Even if money were no object I personally would not want one. My boats HAVE to be able to sail in light airs. There is plenty of info on the 625 on line. The video was mine and nothing to do with the rest of the crew so I apologise for the lack of words about the boat itself. ATB James
Thank you for your input, James. I really appreciate it. I hope to own a sailboat when I retire, so I'm in a process of finding a suitable boat for myself but it's often hard to get an honest opinion on most of the boat reviews on UA-cam. For a beginner like myself, Beneteau, Amel, Jeanneau, Dufour...etc all look alike so any opinion from someone with experience is always appreciated :)
Boats are very much horses for courses and what YOU want to do with them. I'm a bit fussy about what I want to be sail offshore. ATB James
Samingo Sailing what would be your ideal Bluewater boat and why?
I'm certainly not qualified to answer this question BUT when I was looking seriously at going far, after a lot of research, I narrowed it down to a Rival 38 for ME ... sailing alone. Long distance sailors who are not in a hurry have gone for older (like the Rival 38) more heavily built boats. Heavier and steadier. Also steel and aluminium seem to be a popular material and a lot of these boats are of a seriously heavy duty construction. There is a lot to read out there on the ideal boat for what whatever you wish to do, but I'm only really interested in the views of those who have actually been out there and done it! There are quite a few boats I would not sail at all!
"They must occasionally get knocked and damaged by the boat."
That may be why they like doing it - it's risky and a challenge. Sort of like a rock climber or a racing driver. After all, they're smart - and we are too. And we enjoy taking risks. Maybe they are testing their skills. Maybe it's a contest of some kind - who can get closest to the boat for the longest period of time without getting knocked.
I believe it is for the sheer joy! So rare to see them touch the boat or even touch each other.
I know what it is with the dolphins! A big pod like this has many wanting to be leaders, they realize they need to move long distances to find food, yet nobody wants to take the lead!
Suddenly this big thing shows up and several leaders jump on the opportunity to move the group. This is merely a jog for these dolphins at 6-8.0 knots speed.
Takes them to new hunting grounds.
Thank you for your comment. I'm not sure I entirely agree. I've seen them too often turn round and head back to a pod miles behind. I feel that there is a genuine desire to play .. what do I know. The late great Bernard Moitessier related that Dolphins actually saved him by pointing him away from danger! A veteran French skipper says they try to influence the direction a boat is making.
Would be a dream to delivery an oyster. How do you get into a job like that?
Oh gosh. I was then a professional sailor and local to the yard.
Sympa !!!
Thanks ...
Thank you
what is this BST?
British Summer Time. 1 hour ahead of GMT ...
"British" Standard Time.....????......You know....Those Damn British....LOL
+Samingo Sailing ok big THANKS
So fast boat, what for middle speed?
It should be a fast boat with its length. In the F7 winds on the passage across Biscay we were in double figures. Thank you for watching the video. ATB James
show. Henrique _ Brasil_ Rio de Janeiro.
Trherorerical, trhe customer gets an used boat now and not a brandnew, rightr ?
Mmmm. No different from you buying a brand new car and the garage delivering it 50 Miles. So ... after 50 miles ... it's not new anymore?
Ninety percent of the captions were a huge distraction, but the photography was well done.
Thank you for the feedback.
droid ! i used to serve him in the white hart years ago in st osyth! long time! hope your all good? hows the barge?
Hi Jon. I will try to get your message to Droid! ATB James
Samingo Sailing hey cheers I used to be the landlord of the pub back in 2000 long time ago! Love watching your video blogs! Amazing !
Thanks Jon .. ATB James
The Edme :-))) ua-cam.com/video/iQ6pLZxKcLc/v-deo.html
More info of the trip and less of the Dolphins. Would like to have seen instruments eg. wind speed, boat speed, water temp etc.... you know more stuff of what you do when delivering a yacht!!!!!
What was the top speed you reached for sail?
Hi Jesper. You need wind to sail her. In light airs she is a very efficient motor sailer (if you like that sort of thing). Crossing Biscay in E7's we were 10 + pretty much all the time, but with her waterline you'd expect that. Thank you of watching. Fair winds and stay safe. James.
Sorry, but if I wanted to watch dolphins, I'd have watched a nature channel, I thought this was about sailing a Oyster 625. I saw no technical/ or how you sailed there using any of the equipment whatsoever. And if you did , Flipper got in the way of your explanation.
So so sorry John but the title and the description describes what the video is about. Stay safe ATB James
Nothing about wind speed, wind direction, sea conditions, boat speed, heading; was this a video for toddlers or adults?
645
?
This is all Bezos needed…..
Enough of the dolphins.
Could we see a little less dolphins please, seen them all by now!!!!!
Oh dear! So sorry .... but if you read the description when the video was published you might be more kind!
dont listen to him !!!! more dolfins!!!!! who the fuck does not like dolfins? also there is a FF button!
Now, I hate dolphins!
Oyster 625 is a beast. I wish I had one of them.
:-))
