@@ThePositive0ne1 That falls into the category of ageist though. There are people who are 90 and still sharp as a whip, just physically slow moving lol. Though I stand by my solution. No government ever, under any circumstances. Let people run their own damn lives.

@@ItApproaches While I agree with letting people run their own lives, there also has to be some kind of a barrier between us living as free as we want and potentially ending everything on the continent of North America (mainly USA). And yes some people at 90 years old are as sharp as a tack, but that in it doesn't give them the right to run a country. I mean would you trust an 85+ year old to drive you any where. My grandmother is almost 89 and she drives like a maniac and it scares me. Now just to throw it out there (still has to do with topic) my great grandmother passed away recently at 89, but she was so smart and coherent to be the age she was. Granted she couldn't remember a bunch cause old age causes deterioration, but she knew quite a bit.

@@KrunoslavStifter I'm not a socialist. Or maybe I'm a realist socialist. I'd love a world where the utopia is we all work for the common good but I've been around long enough to understand we are human and therefore this is nigh on impossible which is why the socialist model has never worked. Hence learning to live in the grey

    • @KrunoslavStifter
      @KrunoslavStifter 10 днів тому

@@deliciousficticious3150 If you are not a socialist, why do you advocate for policies that can only be understood as socialist policies, unless you also lack understand of the implication of what you are suggesting.
"As humans we should have access to affordable homes, affordable food, affordable energy, affordable travel."
That is socialist utopian concept that you advocate, because there is no qualifiers. No mention of effort, skill, wealth, interest, availability, non of the economic laws, what it says instead is that there should be some arbiter of equality, that fixes prices so everyone can afford it. Regardless of availability or merit or interest. That can only imply state power and socialist policy. Communism.
"Nothing is black and white." you said. Again, only socialist think that.
"The contradictory nature of the socialist utopias is one explanation of the violence involved in the attempt to impose them: it takes infinite force to make people do what is impossible. Left-wing politics has discarded the revolutionary paradigm advanced by the New Left, in favour of bureaucratic routines and the institutionalization of the welfare culture. The two goals of liberation and social justice remain in place: but they are promoted by legislation, committees and government commissions empowered to root out the sources of discrimination. Liberation and social justice have been bureaucratized.
In a moment of doubt about the socialist record Eric Hobsbawm once wrote: ‘If the left have to think more seriously about the new society, that does not make it any the less desirable or necessary or the case against the present one any less compelling.’1 There, in a nutshell, is the sum of the New Left’s commitment. We know nothing of the socialist future, save only that it is both necessary and desirable. Our concern is with the ‘compelling’ case against the present, which leads us to destroy what we lack the knowledge to replace.
The two goals of liberation and social justice are not obviously compatible, any more than were the liberty and equality advocated at the French Revolution. If liberation involves the liberation of individual potential, how do we stop the ambitious, the energetic, the intelligent, the good-looking and the strong from getting ahead, and what should we allow ourselves by way of constraining them?
From this state of bewildered scepticism the student may take a leap of faith. And the leap is never backwards into the old curriculum, the old canon, the old belief in objective standards and settled ways of life. It is always a leap forward, into the world of free choice and free opinion, in which nothing has authority and nothing is objectively right or wrong. In this postmodern world there is no such things as adverse judgement - unless it be judgement of the adverse judge. It is a playground world, in which all are equally entitled tot their culture, their lifestyle and their opinions.
And that is why, paradoxically, the postmodern curriculum is so censorious - in just the way that liberalism is censorious. When everything is permitted, it is vital to forbid the forbidder. All serious cultures are founded on the distinctions between right and wrong, true and false, good and bad taste, knowledge and ignorance. It was to the perpetuation of those distinctions that the humanities, in the past were devoted. Hence the assault on the curriculum, and the attempt to impose a standard of 'political correctness' - which means, in effect, a standard of non-exclusion and non-judgement - is also designed to authorise a vehement kind of judgement, against all those authorities that question the orthodoxy of the left.
By seeing society in class terms we are programmed to find antagonism at the heart of all the institutions through which people have attempted to limit it. Nation, law, faith, tradition, sovereignty - these ideas by contrast denote things that unite us. It is in terms of them that we attempt to articulate the fundamental togetherness that mitigates social rivalries, whether of class, status or economic role. Hence it has always been a vital project on the left, to which Hobsbawm made his own distinctive contribution, to show these things are in some way illusory, standing for nothing durable or fundamental in the social order.
Those who imagined, in 1989, that never again would an intellectual be caught defending the Leninist Party, or advocating the methods of Josef Stalin, had reckoned without the overwhelming power of nonsense. In the urgent need to believe, to find a central mystery that is the true meaning of things and to which one’s life can be dedicated, nonsense is much to be preferred to sense. For it builds a way of life around something that cannot be questioned. No reasoned assault is possible against that which denies the possibility of a reasoned assault.”
― Roger Scruton, [Fools, Frauds and Firebrands: Thinkers of the New Left]
"We need to find a way to live together in the gray. So rather than Me v You, we need Me WITH You"
Sounds like multiculturalism utopian or rather dystopian nightmare propagated by globalists/commies who don't live with the consequences of it. All cultures and all people are not the same. And no we should not live together. So if you are not a socialist, why are you advocating for all the socialist ideas? Are you even aware you are doing that?

This song from Tom was meant to start a conversation and show everyone how incredibly selfish and greedy we all look when we constantly bring others down with our beliefs instead of finding a middle ground! as someone always wants to be right! we are all feeding the negativity continually shouting at one another and finding no resolve. It's very saddening to see how this world has become. Tom is trying to unify everyone by pointing out the double standards! It's a wonderful song depicting how everyone talks to one another. I applaud Tom for making this one! Choice is an illusion the majority of the time and most don't see it. FYI Tom's cover art was absolutely telling! You can see and feel the exhaustion through tom's eyes in the cover art sitting on that chair in the middle of everyone yelling from both sides!

Democracy is 2 wolves & 1 lamb voting on what's for dinner.
A Constitutional Republic (U.S.A.'s) forbids the voting on any individual's personal anything that harms that individual's own rights.
Rights don't include harming another's individual rights that aren't harming another's individual rights to life, liberty & the *pursuit* of happiness.
With that said, it surprises me that there aren't huge class action lawsuits against corporations, govts, schools, hospitals, media, etcetera, to make it all stop.

The only thing that gets me upset with Tom is he calls America a democracy. We are not a democracy. We are a constitutional republic. These are the talking points from the extremist on both sides of the aisle. I believe that we should go back to not knowing who people vote for and looking at them as a person. Stop thinking respect is earned and not given to begin with. I will respect everyone until they give me a reason to disrespect them. That’s my hot take.
A lot of things a president can’t do without Congress. Executive orders have to follow the constitution. So when you have 95% of Congress fighting you at every turn it is hard to get things done.

A constitutional republic is a form of democracy but what matters is that we have neither and to be realistic we cant ever have what our for fathers created for us. Our rapid advancements in the applied sciences without even a thought on the unknown issues many of these technologies would cause has us trapped is a multipolar arms race to the collapse of the human race. A government for the people by the people would require the people to be well informed on governments policies yet nearly every major decision is based on classified information that we cant be shown because it would pose a national security threat. Without having all the facts the people are incapable of making informed decisions on most policies we face. Even if we had access to all the truth we as a whole have been deliberately disengaged with the actions of our leaders which was the biggest threat to our system according to George Washington. He said the most important thing we can do to protect our nation from corruption was the comprehensive education of each citizen in the science of governments and also laid upon us the civic duty of removing any government that been hijacked by corrupt market incentives using the peoples monopoly of violence. We instead have let the corruption grow so large and the gap widen so large they do not fear any revolution because they have assured we cant come together and organize anything that they cant quietly dismantle and make an example of.

I totally understand and even agree with some of the criticisms of Trump, but I care more about the results of action than I do the personality of the president, whoever it may be. Our country and our people were doing better with him at the helm.

Loved your commentary. You are 100% right that economy and war effect every American. But since politicians continue to fail there, they distract with the 1% edge issues to divide us. When you can’t solve the problems that matter, deflect, deflect, deflect. That has been Tom’s point in many of his songs.

I think it was so poignant and brave to mention that you wrestle with moral choices vs. American choices. Because I think it's something a lot of us wrestle with, and it can be very difficult to ask those questions and make a decision. I think the things you mention in this video are really informed and true for those of us here today. Very insightful video, man. Love it.

Spotlighting the talking points from both sides is brilliant. Absolutely LOVED it. I pray daily for unity and an end to this division. Until we can have actual conversation and a willingness to understand each other and cooperate without pointing fingers and throwing accusations, we are all doomed. #HOG American born and raised and so very over the crap.

I like Tom's messaging on this one. Good analysis by BP..."It's like theater." Yep, that's what it is, but this is not new. Sometimes the theatrics are more entertaining/emotional which serves the purpose of getting people more interested.
Rhetoric has always been there. From what I have seen, the degree to which the focus leans more social/emotional usually is an indicator of economic stability. The biggest change over the years is how much technology seems to increase demand for more extreme, quick paced messaging (meme culture). Unless technology fails, we will not be going back. Honestly, I think that would be disastrous because so many people today would not know how to live without modern technology. Billy Joel had it right when he wrote "We Didn't Start the Fire" 🔥

I live in the UK and we are having a general election. Like your presidential election. The same thing is happening here. My daughter said she would disown me if I voted for the right. She's actually changed her mind a tad. She started to realise that the left is not right. Our swamp is still there on both parties. So we have several other parties who are gaining. I believe that we will have whats called a coalition government where a few parties will rule together. This happened a few years ago, I believe that the country ran so much better. I'm not afraid, I love President Trump, he was a great leader and fearless. The world was much safer for all of us. ❤

Political lyrics are hard and what he is saying is true and it is just a neverending arguement that goes in circles. I live in Canada and the Canada I grew up in was a lot different and in some ways much better than what my kids are growing up in now. Unaffordable and we are sinking. Can a leader change that? In some ways. I don't think we can tax our way out of any environmental issue like our PM has done with the carbon tax. He is spending us into oblivion. It's obvious what we need. Someone who will spend our money in the right areas and create a good budget but nobody can save us but ourselves they can only make our lives a bit better or worse. You vote for someone who has more talking points and ideas you agree with. I do feel like if we had a probation period for a leader that is shorter than 4 years it would be better just like at any other job. Someone can do a lot of damage in 4 years. If we had the option to fire based on what is actually being done or steps being taken to get things done that was promised to us. I think then we might see real change and maybe a bit more honesty but that might never happen. What I like about Tom MacDonald's songs is they do get people talking and thinking and I do like this song.
