I love your formula with the cute outtake at the beginning, your logo and mini portfolio over music, your cute greeting, your very tasteful but not pushy reminder that subscribing is an option, and your little cup. It makes the whole thing feel very conversational and natural. Great content, really.
You are the real deal.. Love how you use anything to help with lighting your scene. Your walking us through your editing workflow was perfect. THANK YOU!
I watched this about 6 months ago and whilst I enjoyed it, I had no clue how to do what you just did ... I just watched it again and BINGO! I get it! My messing about and practice I am hoping will pay off eventually! Thank you Joanie, love your videos xx
I've always been an outdoor and portrait photographer and have recently taken on food photography for work. It's a whole different ball park and your videos have been so helpful for someone like me. I doubt you'll see this but you're fantastic. Your enthusiasm makes it less intimidating and more exciting to take on. keep on keepin on!
Very impressed. Right from word go, your dress sense alone suggested that you had the knowledge, confidence and natural style to be good at processing quality into photographs.Great video.
My friend, you are one awesome everything! I truly dig your tutorials. I am glad I stumbled upon your channel. You are one of the most honest, caring and loving presenter on UA-cam. Thanks so much for sharing.
Joanie, this was a great video. I love your style of teaching and how you explain things. I am an experienced photographer (with gear) that is just now moving into food photography. As you said in one of your vids, I know enough to get a job, but I also don't know what I don't know. The intricacies of the food genre are what I don't know, so thank you for giving me a jump start on my food photography journey.
Hi! Thank you for this interesting video. It would be nice to see a before/after image to compare what effects your editing had. Thank you in advance! :-)
I have practiced using wax paper folded in as many layers as needed per plate in studio. Nice diffusion, more opaque. In restaurant, I have used white saucer works as a bounce. I LOVE your channel !! You are a TRUE pro passing it forward. Class act!
I just happened to stumble across this channel and I immediately had to follow it! Your simplistic way of teaching, energy, personality, all amazing! You’ve gained a follower!
I love that these techniques aren't just for food, but really any still/close photography. I can see exactly how these could transfer to product photography (which I do more of). But great tips and great presentation!
Where have you been all ma’life?? 😃❤️🙏🏼 Thank you sooo much for your time in making these videos and for the willingness to share your tips. This is real entrepreneurship, to pass it along and create that ripple effect of creativity and service to others! 😊
I'm not really into food photography until today that watched your videos. The vibes you gave while sharing your skills on food photography made it looks so easy. This might be right time to practice food photography using your awesome videos since we always stay indoors. Thank you and stay safe!
Just got started watching your channel and I'm loving it! I don't know if you started doing this in your later videos, but I am a very visual learner (as well as tactile), and something that would help me is to see a side-by-side of the before editing and after editing photos after the editing process. Some of those changes were very subtle to my untrained eye, and I believe that the comparison would help. :)
Hi I love your videos and learn so much. I do have one small piece of feedback. On a couple of videos I’ve watched - including this one - you refer to “raising” the blacks as “crushing” them when they’re opposites. Crushing refers to losing all detail because you’ve darkened them so much
Hey Joanie! Because you took the time to create this video (4 years ago!) I was able to do some of the best work of my life. I am so happy! I will be posting the photos to Friday Brags tomorrow, Your friend from Texas.
I can't express how much I love this video. Your pacing is so good so I don't miss any information you provide in this video. Food photography is the one thing I struggle so much in the photography world. Like I'm struggling on how to control the lights, camera settings, especially aperture. I have fast lenses although I'm only shooting on an APS-C camera body. I know it's not all, but I think the aperture settings is what I'm struggling with the most. And finding this video hopefully will improve at least a bit of my food photography skill, not only on dark food photography, but in overall food photography. So, thank you very much!
I'm a DP in film, also a Photographer and it's amazing to see how the same techniques of lighting a scene with Actors/Actresses is just THIS on a larger scale. My photography has helped me develop better skills as a Director of Photography just based on lighting and telling a story in 1 frame. Great Job!! Love your channel and your energy. Cheers
I have been looking for a channel like yours for so long! All you tips and explanations are so detailed and so incredibly useful. Thank you for the amazing content you create for your viewers! :)
Thanks so much for this video! I only shoot food for fun, but this actually really helped me with my professional photography that pays the bills. Seeing how you built your set & controlled your lighting was so instructional, and my very next shoot on black was so much better after watching this; much cleaner background and softer lighting on my subject. Judging by comments you've gone from ~6K subs to 30K in 3 months and I'm not the least bit surprised - you deserve them all!
I just started food/product photography and I find your videos very helpful. One detail I did find distracting is the constant change between the computer screen shot and your main shot, specially when you're adjusting settings and switch to the main shot. Maybe stay on the computer screen shot a little longer while you adjust. Just a suggestion.
Just getting into food photography and love your videos! Your my favorite lady to watch on UA-cam. Always great advice and beautiful photos to learn from. Just wanted to say thanks
I have watched a lot of differentt videos in the past months. VERY good presentation. I have not tried food yet but I will today. P.S. My wife loves your haircut!!!.

I agree, this was a great video but the bottom side of the curve scale is input level and the left side is the output level.

Thank you! I thought I knew how to use Lightroom--but your simple demo of the tone curves helped me "see" things in a new way! Awesome video!
I just started food/product photography and I find your videos very helpful.
