- This is still a work in progress of mine, but to celebrate the 1 year anniversary of pikmin 251 as well as my discord server reaching 1000 members, I wanted to post a video about this early!
This hack is only aiming to do the basics of making a fully functional purple and white onion, but I'm hoping people make their own pikmin 2 romhacks that are balanced around these! As of right now its just about as overpowered as it sounds.

Now we just need aboveground bulbmin and the trio of OP will be complete
Bulbmin are kinda unnecessary with unlimited purples. Who needs elemental immunities when you can just throw purples at it until it stops moving? Aside from poison traps and Fiery Bulblaxes, I guess.

Tbf with infinite Bulbmin, Red and Blue Pikmin would be completely worthless imo, and the purpose of Yellows and Whites would diminish as Bulbmin can deal with all hazards themselves, they’re OP above OPs, all you would need is Purples, Bulbmins, and some occasional Yellows and Whites if there are treasures in high places or buried underground

@@dimondsoul8255 that would be more reasonable, maybe they themselves acknowledged how op Purples and Whites were, and may be the reason why they can only be obtained underground, so it would be a bit of a chore if you wanted way more, they could’ve being one awesome reward tho, the ultimate Pikmin, but you gotta earn them for real
Basically, Pikmin 2 only flaw is now fixed

Maybe the flowers on top of the onions should be pink like they are on the Pikmin.
that's actually really interesting and it bugs me that it didn't look like that when pikmin 4 gave onions to (almost) every species
I think a good addition as a mod would that if Bulbmin could be brought out of caves then they should replace the Purple or White Pikmin in the Hocotate Ship so that they can be stored.
You just never cease to impress. This is sick!

The bulbmin onion is much harder to implement because it doesnt have onion menu and stuff while purples and whites did (because of the rocket) so it will probably not be added, and if it is its not anytime soon
PikHacker already hade to make a custom BLO file without knowing how they work, and even without knowing, he still managed to pull it off, so maybe in a few months to a year, maybe it could be worked on

You know this mod predicted that Pikmin 4 did gave both White and Purple Pikmin their own Onions respectfully
This just reminds me, that we might never see this cool onion design ever again, if Pikmin 4 ever comes out.

The original onions were so cool.
In pikmin 3 They barely look like onions until they mature. And they lose the cool pattern on the side almost entirely.
Just watching this video already makes me happy 🙂. I hope someday I'll be able to play it by myself.

as a kid i had drawings of the pikmin and the 5 onions including purple and white shortly before the game released, having no idea they'd have to be stuffed inside the ship in extremely limited quantities. this is basically my childhood dream finally realized
You say this is only the basics, but I'm just loving the minor details you put in - namely how they circle the ship on the world map (it's even spaced correctly between all 5) and that they swoop in during the landing scene; I loved Pikmin 251 when I played it recently, and I'm glad to see Pikmin has an active scene, even after all this time

I’m impressed that you managed to make two separate Onions without much fault.
I think I have an idea when it comes to balancing this out.
(just my idea, by the way)
・You must discover those two Pikmin in the cave before you get to discover their Onion. In Purple Pikmin’s case, it can reside somewhere near the Chance Totem area; in White Pikmin’s case, it can reside somewhere near the Complex in the Valley of Repose.
・Special pellet colors can only grow in the same area as where the Onion are first discovered.
・The pellets can only bloom every even day (Day 2, 4, 6,...) AFTER you discover the Onions, and they must be far from the base (though not too far for Purple’s case).
And that’s about it.
Other than that, good luck with your work.
But this would make the pellets useless, you would just breed them from enemies.
cool but I think the idea of onions is exactly to make the game look appealing
When pikmin carry treasure back to the ship, the weight counter could be grey, rather than pure black.

The coolest part about this trailer is that the purple pikmin don't peace out when you whistle them.

We can see here that Pikmin with no Onions can be given Onions and pellet colors to go along with them, and Pikmin 251 showcases the ability to create new Pikmin types without an Onion, so being able to create a new type with an Onion could be a very real possibility.

But I have an other idea: Pikmin 3 style onions (one communal onion) and Purple and whites have much more frequent flowers, they can spawn on any dungeon floor- and spawn at a max of three at a time.

is this part of your pikmin 251 release? Can we have the onions of all types of pikmin or is this just a replacement? and finally is it possible to optimize pikmin 251? Basically it is based on the gamecube version I believe? Is there a way to push the graphics to the max?

And all 3 short movies and some new ones
Finally I can get the Doomsday Apparatus without having to go to the subterranean complex 5 times

Here's an idea on how to balance this, coming from someone with no knowledge of how the game works: If it's possible to limit the amount of pellets/creatures that will be absorbed by the purple & white onions, or to decrease the amount of sprouts they produce, that might help balance it.

I think a good way of balancing purple's in this scenario is straight up removing the ground pound and making them only carry 5, in exchange of making them a bit faster
I think removing the groundpound is to much, but they could remove the stun effect.
The bulbmin onion should be the corpse of a bulborb.
