    Orange, purple and red are made for each other. That´s my absolute favorite combo of colors. Make a big bed of roses with these colors and people will be amazed when seing it.

    I first saw you and your crew in some video garden tours a few years ago with Laura from Garden Answer during the Grand Garden Show. Nice to find you have your own videos. Love seeing how you put together some of the magic of Mackinac Island. I wouldn't have ever put those flower colors together, but seeing them the way you did them has me convinced I will try this combination. Thanks for the trick about tipping the "spiller"!

    I like how quickly you got everything in. No need to fuss over the planting. I have 10 window boxes. I'm partial to trailing begonias because they are constant bloomers. Great job!

    Thank you so much for the tip on geraniums!! I recently in the last 5-6 years have become an avid gardner! And pretty much what I have always read is to as you called it "tickle the roots!" Well I only had one season that my geraniums were unbelievably beautiful and that was because I didn't tickle the roots!! The times I did tickle the roots my geraniums looked awful and I could never figure out why.... NOW I KNOW!!! Thank you so much!!! I can't wait to start gardening this year!! Geraniums are one of my favorite flowers!! I'll let you know how they do this season!!

    I like the strong colors too... bright white would have also added a touch if contrast. Seems like a dark side of the cabin. Beautiful! Thank you for telling us about protecting the roots. Goes against ALL we here elsewhere. But I believe you because it makes sense..

    Jack I love your videos. I’m originally from Detroit but I’m in Illinois now. I spent summers going up north and to Mackinac Island. Every video you do is just like being home for me. So thank you! I love your window boxes. Is there a blue print that we could have so that we could accomplish that in our Illinois home as well? Maybe bring a little bit of Mackinac here. Thanks Jack

    Hi I love your videos. First saw your tours with Laura.
    I planted my window box with your design. The lobularia and super bells are doing great.
    My problem is the geraniums have to be deadheaded. The window box is high and I have to climb a ladder
    To get to them. I’m 79 so would rather not climb if I don’t have to.
    Can you suggest another flower to replace the geraniums?
    My house is light blue with dark purple blue shutters.
    Lots of shades of pink , purple and other color flowers below.
    Thanks so much. Lois

    So even when the roots are really root bound, a mat of going around in circles you dont tease them loose? Thanks

    • @JackBarnwellDesign
      @JackBarnwellDesign  4 роки тому +3

      in that case... a little touch of teasing is good... but often, especially with annuals, the roots will be quite young, and it isn't a good idea !

    Personally not usually a fan of red flowers, but your selection works beautifully. I love it. What would you recommend For for a black window box (grey house with white trim) that gets 5-6 hours of full morning sun in a predominantly white garden?

      Ditto, not a fan of red. Favorite: White, Blue, Purple > but Bright - Hot Pinks/Fuchsia will 'pop' with the Grey/White/Black colors you have.
      (once the flowers fill in, you probably won't be able to see your black window box...?) Good Luck.

    Great video!! I am new to planting my own rail planters this year and have been following you and Proven Winners for tips 😊. I actually bought a salmon zonal geranium, white knight lobularia, and silver falls for my planters. I was wondering, is there a certain way to plant the geranium, that is, is there a “front”? Some of mine have a flower starting to bloom on one side with leaves on the other. I saw that for begonias, you plant with leaves pointed outward. Is it the same for geraniums? Thanks!,!

    • @JackBarnwellDesign
      @JackBarnwellDesign  4 роки тому +2

      Yes- geraniums certainly have a face~ and you want to plant them... facing out!

    When you plant them on an angle do you totally bury the root ball? I always try this but they never seem to come out right.

    • @JackBarnwellDesign
      @JackBarnwellDesign  4 роки тому +2

      Yes, with smaller 4” pots, you can plant at an angle and very little of the roots are above “grade”~ at that stage of growth, they are easily adaptable

    • @darlenesitto9317
      @darlenesitto9317 4 роки тому

      @@JackBarnwellDesign thank you so much! I was afraid they would die if it wasn't totally buried.
