  • An excerpt from one of the several interviews we did with Joey Ramone on NEON TV. Here he talks about Bob Dylan. The interviewer was Lorry Doll, the lead singer and guitarist of Tracks (one of the first female-fronted punk bands) and later of Lorry Doll and the Wild Ones. Joey was always such a personable and gregarious guy. We filmed this in his apartment which was just a couple blocks from our own in New York. So whenever he had something new to say, hed give us a call and wed run over there with our equipment. Always a fun interview. Miss them both dearly.

Joey... this guy is simply the best.
I feel sad when I think of him because he's gone.
    Always present in our minds

I have seen way too many Joey Ramone interviews. I can't stop saying "ya know" at the end of everything. Thats okay though, I like knowing Joey has influenced me :) He's such a great guy and I wish he was still around.

Why was I born so late??!! I was born in '96. I only saw a few years of Joey. I wish I could have met him. He's not like most famous people now. He is amazing, he would interact with his fans.

He wasn’t like most famous people back then either. He was one of a kind. Just a rare, unique, kind-hearted, down to earth, highly charismatic individual. He made the world a better place while he was in it, and he is *VERY MUCH* missed.

I first saw the Ramones play when I was 8 years old (1980). My mom had to get permission from the venue's manager to allow me and my little brother (who was 5) into the show. We were carried into the venue on the shoulders of scary-looking (but very friendly) dudes in leather jackets with mohawks and chain wallets. They were just thrilled to see two little kids who loved the Ramones.
That night changed our lives forever.
I miss them. They showed me the true power of music - and my ears are still ringing, over 40 years later... ;-)

@kliff215 Joey was one of the most open celebs we ever interviewed. They were all in his apartment and more like we were just sitting around talking - which we were. He was so cool.

I love Joey. If I was pushed I'd probably say he's my favourite Ramone. He created a whole new archetype and he always looked like a star

I met Joey in Pittsburgh in 96. He was one of the nicest human beings I can say I ever met. He was so grateful that I was a fan. And really especially at the end of their career he could have easily blew me off but he didnt. That encounter will forever be in my heart.

Ramones 1980s at CBGB on Bowery st. was the crazy time to be alive, just like Bob Dylan in 1960s at Macdougal st. New York will never be like that again, not in my life time anyway

There was another interview in australia or something with him and Dee Dee.
    They were killer. Just hilarious.
I can see why the main stream at the time were put off by them because they goofed around a lot but none of it was them being mean or hateful. They were having fun because they wanted to have fun and thats why their fans loved them, because they wanted to see a couple of guys goofing around and playing music. They were like the kids in the back of the class making wise ass remarks and making the whole class laugh.
I can imagine all the douche bags who wanted to be their friends and tried to take advantage of them, the original Ramones seemed intimidating on the surface by the cover of their albums. But all you have to do is listen to anyone of them for about 30 seconds to realize these guys are out to have fun, joke around and play music.
And Dee Dee seems like such a nice guy, I can understand why Johnny tried to keep him quiet but Johnny was wrong about that. Still it was a sign of the times then and now in that you cant show your soft side under belly too much to the public otherwise theres someone who is ready to put a knife in it.
Its really a really sad sad state of affairs that things went south for them too often, still I wont feel too bad for them they made their money they left a strong legacy. Too bad Joey went the way he did, Johnny was such a callous cunt the way he stole Joey's girl without even talking it out with Joey. Johnny was a control freak of a cunt though. It was Tommy who was always talking about 'lets start a band, lets start a band.' He finally talked the other 3 goof balls in to starting a band and then when Tommy got fed up with the bullshit Johnny turned around and said 'eh, Tommy wasnt that important anyway.' He was a real dick that way.
