This looked really promising... Too bad no one else took a chance at this franchise, imagine an Akira game with today's tech.
+bframe yea if put in the right hands, this game would be amazing !
Evil Pixel a youtuber by the name patrick matt patterson posted a video on the found 3 builds of akira on the gameboy
I can't believe that an intellecual property as massive as Akira never had a gaming adaptation... and that something just as massive as Ghost in the Shell, had in its glory day only an action game on a mechanical spider.
During an heavily RPG centered era.
A mechanical spider arena-based action game.
WTF.
Akira did have gaming adaptations on the Famicom and Amiga, as well as the unreleased games in this video. And just because the Ghost in the Shell game came out "during an heavily RPG centered era" doesn't mean that a game based on the series has to be an RPG or that adapting it into an action game is worth saying "WTF." Games in genres besides RPG still existed in that era and were well-made. As long as the game is fun, that's all that matters, and from what I've heard, the GITS game is pretty good.
I've uncovered four prototypes of the Game Boy version. Uploading video of discovery now.
It's kinda funny how I get recommended videos like this shortly after Hidden-Palace releases the Megadrive proto.
The SNES version developed by Hand Made Software was being also converted to the Atari Jaguar, according to GameFan Vol. 2 April 1994 issue. It was being made by the same team of the SNES version. Cartridge format. ;-) (No kidding, look it up!).
Amazing job sir, I once looked into this game on a blog I write for a while back using many of the same sources that you have, but it seems more has come to light since then. I had seen the CES footage but not the bits from that promo - I was actually in awe of it as I never thought anything significant would turn up after all this time. It was so awesome to see stuff like the bike section in action, just incredible! Thanks so much for putting this together, really means a lot to me as I was very excited for this game back when it was announced and I was so gutted that it never came to be. Good stuff!
+Dibbs of the Grig Gaming thank you, im glad you enjoyed. yea there are tons of information out there, but people who were in there mid 20's back then are much older now, therefore they dont really care about uploading or sharing their pieces of information with other. im currently on the hunt for that gamezone issue, but its difficult to find. Thanks again, and check out a new unrelease games video i just put out a few minutes ago if you can !
+Evil Pixel will do mate, hope you manage to track that magazine down, the scans are cool but would be much better first hand so all the best in tracking it down.
Yeah, now that THQ is dead, making a game of Akira in the future is nearly impossible now. Thanks alot THQ.
Its now THQ Nordic
I loved it. I miss my children. I really wish they would release it on Playstation. They tried to do it with 'Ghost in the Shell'. The Movies aren't that bad I guess. I like the movie 'Akira' ,but I find it strange that the woman in the prison scene says what 'Akira' is ,but at the same time isn't sure what it is. 'Tetsuo' had his arm burned off though and I guess if what she said is true in the prison scene then he was infected with "virus" known as 'Akira' and that is how his arm was put back together. Maybe there is more to it then that though. See it's Strange that 'Tetsuo' himself talked about the apocalypse happening at the end of the movie ;however, why? When did all of this actually take place when was it?
Just downloaded the hidden palace alpha prototype rom and loaded it to my Genesis mini. It's not not as polished as the one shown at CES '94 and very unfinished/buggy but it would have made for a good game if finished. 👍
im thinking about making a revisiting uptaed version of this video
There is released akira for amiga and cd32 in 1994.
Amiga and cd32 was released only in europe, and it was critically panned by fans.
I haven't seen Akira or Scarface. Fight me.
put em' up !!!! lol
This is freakin' awesome, I had heard something about there being a 16 bit Akira game but never saw anything from it. I have the crummy famicom Akira game (which is cool to own just for the sake of saying "Hey I own the Akira game.") Just subscribed to your channel, found you on Retroware where I post my videos regularly. Great and informative work!
+Retro Cynical thank you sir, it is a shame that this game never happened, would have been a great game. Ive been trying to find an easier way to post my vids on retroware, but i find that i had to email them to the admin everytime, is there an easier way to do this, that you know of? BTW great animations on your videos, I subbed
+Evil Pixel well thank you so much. as far as posting on retroware, I used to be able to post videos whenever I wanted then it changed to having to email them. I don't know if that's because of an issue with the site or if it's a quality control issue or something but as far as I know email is the only way.
+Retro Cynical ah gotcha, thanks for the heads up !
Amazing work, dude! I was crazy to play a akira game in the time. hahahaha
Akira the comic series 🦊🦊🦊🐱🐱🎉🎉🎉🎉🐺🐺🐺🐺🎮🎮🎮🕹️🕹️🕹️🕹️🦊🐱🐱🐱🐱😻😻😻😻☯️☯️☯️☯️☯️☯️
One thing I can tell you. The GG rom was once among the rom "big collectors" back in the late 90's.
+Marco Duarte really? do you have any sources ?
+Evil Pixel At the time we used mIRC to "comunicate". Don't know if any of the people from those days are still in those channels or even if the channels still exist. You can if you want contact me for information but mainly SEGA stuff.
Akira is a bad ass show
Hi Evil Pixel, first off i wanted to say you made such an excellent video about the unreleased Akira video game! as an Akira fan myself, it is such a huge crime that this game never got released or found since! (i sure would've had a blast playing that game) and also, another thing i wanted to tell you is that there's new, MUCH better quality video footage of the Akira game from the CES '94 show that has surfaced two weeks ago that shows much more levels, gameplay, the intro and you can even hear the game's sounds and music with surprisingly decent quality! (for a VHS video that was recorded on a packed showroom floor) here's the link to that video so you can see for yourself: ua-cam.com/video/CfHOynqolOQ/v-deo.html
+dentonscheibal3 thanks for the heads up man !!!!! ill update it in the description!
hey eveil pixel could you tell me where I could find that video clip at 10:22 I just like to keep old video's ok so could you tell me.
It Would have been cool to see it finish for the Sega Genesis
definitely wouldve have been cool!
Its like saying you didnt watch Scarface.. EPIC!!
I would have played the heck out a this game, being a onlooker of imports.
Bruh the Akira Game on Genesis is just similar on the Amiga CD32 but the driving part is 2D
I didn't know Akira was release on the, Sega cd. Too bad they have errors :-(
Not “errors.” It was just unfinished.
they arent allowed to read it .but if some one is sneaky enough to get a copy and dump it man that would be fucking epic.
ayyyy lmao dank vidz tbh fam
Evil Pixel, now that the original video is taken down is there ANY remaining footage of that Mega Man Genesis game?
Im not sure, i have to look into that actually
@@EvilPixelOk, please let me know if you find anything out man. It would definitely be a godsend. Looking forward to more vids on lost games and things about gaming in general, your content is great
@@michaelbullen3104 thank you for your support. and thanks again for the information
@@EvilPixel Still nothing...?
I downloaded the unfinished rom.... All you have to do is search for it 😀
hey it's me just asking again to see if i could get the promotional cd footage of akira just because i think it is really interesting so if you read this please give me the cd footage please
they wouldnt release it due to the violence in games back then.
the conspiracy unfolds

"18 bit" graphical limitations????
yea i meant to say 16, it was late lol
untseac
lmaooo yea that gotta be it lol
we need it for ps4
Number one game you should avoid. I don't know who the hell came up with this idea. Animation is better than the damn Akira games.
Who are you to tell people what games they should avoid, let alone claim that this one is “number one”? Not only is this an elusive game with an impressive amount of variety that pushes the hardware to the limit, not everyone is as close-minded and overly critical as you, so plenty of people would be eager to seek it out. If you “don’t know who the hell came up with this idea,” then you fail to understand how popular Akira must have been for people to be excited about a video game adaptation and the potential it has. Just because “Animation is better” doesn’t mean that the games shouldn’t exist. If you had it your way, then pretty much no movie-based games would exist and we would be deprived of classics like GoldenEye 007. It’s not even like “the damn Akira games” are trying to be “better” than the movie, just adapt the story into a different medium, so what makes you think that you have any authority to deem this the “Number one game you should avoid” when you don’t even understand the point of video game adaptations?

Haha "kanayda". Wrong!
