You mentioned that you are tired and weary, be careful that you are not depressed. I am only saying the following to help you as I have been like you are now. Drink plenty of water. your brain fires better with water. You mention the increased competition, you may need to consider changing up what you are interested in. I recently watched a video on a group of women that formed a group and worked together to collect and go through the small town's dumpsters for things to resell. Also, the same group formed a couponing group and would sell the excess stock at like a garage sale. Be flexible. Don't let your worries overcome you, if you do then you will have trouble thinking your way out of trouble and finding solutions.
You just take care of you. Seems you have a lot on your plate. You could put mystery boxes together by skin tone and sell them. Given the time of course. No doubt you would sell out. Great haul!

The pandemic has actually helped dumpster diving from Ulta so much because a lot of the stuff is taped up and was never used as a tester especially the pallets of tape across them and I have never been used. So I am pretty happy about the results. I had worried at first that it would end testers or displays all together and then we would neverFind stuff like this again.

Tester stickers come off with the application of Eucalypstus oil and then just gently pull of and then rub with the oil and a microfibre cloth to clean them.

You are lucky that the Ulta's you have gone to don't destroy everything. My Ulta store pours out the lotion into a bag that is holding makeup which they have destroyed. They make sure the eyeshadows and blushes and any other powders are out of the palates that they come in and then they pour the lotion makeup over top of the powders. It is horrible what they do here.
I live by a major city and there are about 7 or more ultas. Every store dumps lotions and everything under the sun on the stuff. There is maybe 2 that I get lucky at. Which even those places are starting to go crazy. It really is sad bc I come from a very poor family. Before diving I didn't even own an eyeshadow palette. I spent every dollar on my kids needs. So they can have a better upbringing than their dad and I had. So to know that I used to wash my hair with dish soap if we had it and here they are dumping it out is really disgusting. I just loaded my car down last week and gave everything away because I know the feeling. I just don't like recording people because it used to embarrass me asking for help so id go without. Sorry for the long reply.

I few weeks ago i found 23 bags of the small bags of name brand chips. I took them to family members whom i know are struggling. Everytime any kid in my family see's me they ask what kind of goodies i have for them even the neighborhood kids. Its very rewarding seeing their happy faces.
I am fascinated by what people throw away. Wastage would be cut down if they separated the dirty cardboard from the clean cardboard, plastics, and general rubbish, and anything that can be reused put somewhere else. In Japan, rubbish is sorted into about six different categories. by changing the returns policies there would not be so much rubbish. In my country, Australia, you can only return personal items if they are faulty, in general, you can't return earrings, undies, makeup, etc. Also, items are sold as remaindered stock and reduced. Why does this not generally happen in the USA? Is it a 'pride' thing? in my state, the drink bottles can be returned for ten cents each to depots, plastic glass or aluminium. That scheme has been very successful.

I help places like that before and guess what a manager from an Ulta i spoke about this women shelters situations she donated to me one big box of all the gratis she got from the store it was so amazing for those women and for me too, sometimes all you need is faith and good communication and tone honest and not lie to actually keep them for personal profit.
Id rather not say the specific stores for safety reasons. I had some guy showing up at every store for the longest. Which is why I took a long break until I got protection. If your a diver be persistent. Just pay attention to signs and laws in your city. If it says no trespassing you can get arrested so be careful.

They throw it away for liability reasons. The majority of that stuff is expired, has damaged packaging or were tester items that everyone and their mom has put their fingers on. Ulta doesn't want to get sued if someone uses these products & gets pink eye, a bacterial infection, a parasite or who knows what else.
Emma, that's their excuse. The real reason is that they don't want you having your stuff unless you buy it or they give it to you as a promotional item. It's a control freak issue. Which is really stupid when it comes to business, because again, promotional items are giving away for free for marketing purposes. So just let people take stuff out of the trash and then when they use it and people compliment them, they just say they got it at Ulta. Tada. Marketing. Either way, peeps will keep rescuing good stuff from landfills.
