Make sure you stayed tuned for the next pallet unboxing which will be up very soon and also part 2 of this video where I hopefully sell these items and let you know how much money I made or lost 😬
**I had a response re the damaged delivery, they just sent me a list of what should have been In the box and asked if anything is missing, which it appears nothing is missing but i also now don’t really know what was already damaged or what could have been damaged in delivery **

*UPDATE*
This video seems to have gained some traction even though it’s a few years old so just wanted to leave my update video on how much I made (or lost 😅) from the pallets here - ua-cam.com/video/zhWU_j1g-_Q/v-deo.htmlsi=62Bxb0CH_beMJj29
The other people that you’ve watched might have had bad pallets before the good ones and not filmed them, I love how varied your vlog are Rosie, you are a hard working you tuber, when I started watching you you had just over a thousand subscribers, it will take time, but believe me you will grow because you are so likeable 🥰❤️🥰❤️🥰
Thank you so much you are so kind 💕💕🥰
All is not lost with the broken items as someone who wants to buy a good product, and is good at fixing things, could still buy it. Like you, I’m surprised that John Lewis accepted some of those things. You’re a brave woman though😀 You definitely don’t mind getting your hands dirty. Lol. It’s been very interesting and entertaining. I hope you get your money back and more🤞😊
Hopefully not 😬 people might want parts too so I’ll see how I get on! Thank you, I’m glad you found it entertaining😊 I did really enjoy making the video so that’s good 😂🙈
I'm amazed that they are allowed to put broken/non working items in pallets to sell. They should be sent to the tip if it is proven they do not work. The used items could be donated to charities that help rehome people. I would have been disgusted with that load of rubbish.
John Lewis has an excellent return policy for the buyer. This might not bode so well for the re-purchaser!!
I worked for Selfridges in London and I think John Lewis has the same policy that the customer is always right. Well it was when I worked there quite a few years ago. We were told that the customers happiness is paramount and they would always accept any returns. There was a story that a guy returned a pair of shoes after wearing them for 10 years and he still got a refund because he thought they would last longer 😂
I worked for JL and was on secondment in children’s wear. One day customer tipped a bag of manky kids clothes on the floor, kicking off, demanding a refund, the manager gave her one immediately to get her out of the shop. We checked the items and they were from Primark.
cool story bro @@Auldreekie967
I work for JL we picked up a 2 yr old well used £1k BBQ well used and absused
My sister worked for Littlewoods in Lincoln and they even took in underwear returns - she told about about a woman whom return bras which smelt awful and so had clearly been worn - my sis refused to accept the return but her manager overrode her - she subsequently found out that all clothes returns we taken to a back room, washed then put back onto the shop floor!
It was the very damp principle for Superquinn in Ireland. Fergal Quinn was the owner of the company and he wrote a book about how he started it was called Crowing the Customer. Managers from all over the world to see how he ran his customers.it was a great place to work, and all workers got a great Xmas bonus and the opportunity to be involved in competitions run.
Oh my. I’m 27 minutes in and I feel like crying. I’m so sorry this happened. It’s actual BS. I wish you the BEST of LUCK on your next purchases!!! ❤
The problem with electrical return pallets, is the majority will be returned because they're faulty or just not working. It would worry me as you'd never know the true safety of what your reselling without having it pat tested.
Charity shops make a point of PAT Testing before resale, I think they are required to by law.🤷🏼♀️
A few other observations 1) I applaud your optimism, however remember just because something turns on does not mean its working especially machines that run multiple step processes e.g. coffee machines and bread makers, you'll need to fully test it works from start to finish 2) Before diving in and dismantling items read the manual - it seems the hair straightners have a few steps to make it work, As an aside here not many battery powered devices work when being charged. Also it could ne the charging adaptor or the battery failing which are testable and replaceable at a relatively low cost especially if high retail price. 3) Broken machines can be sold for spares or repair, a fraction of a working machine value but at least some return
I wish we were neighbours, I'm retired and would absolutely love to repair those items that didn't work, I'll do it for free cause it's something I just love to do. I hope you know someone that can bring those products back from e waste and back to market
🦋Hi Rosie , thank you for sharing the pallet opening from John Lewis , like you we are interested in purchasing one , with all the hidden charges , I felt for you both fingers crossed on the coffee makers ... I am so shocked that this should have been a premium box everything so so dirty , please check to make sure it was the correct one , hubby said to me next time a pallet arrives and sheet wrap has been tampered with refuse delivery .... as you do not know what has happened between warehouse and your home .... let’s keep fingers crossed for you both , but please send an email to John Lewis as they will be very shocked that a third party they have sold to is selling pallets with broken goods on them ..... it’s up to them to sort out the rubbish they get in the truckload they purchase ... thank you for video ... I think you may have been scammed on this pallet xx 🦋
JL will not be bothered. They have sold it to the company fully aware and knowing conditions. They are graded at point of sale to the company buying them. It is up to the company to state the conditions
Auction fees, VAT and shipping are not hidden fees. Are you a female too?
Remember to try new fuses for things that don’t work,
A lot of the time these things just need a new fuse and they are cheap to buy x
New plugs too, like that bread maker
@@alexdavis5766Yes I was thinking that too. Just change the fuse or the plug...
The cheek of people returning items after being WELL USED.
My friend used to work at JL and she used to complain to me and was really peed at the condition of some of the returned goods and how JL would accept this merchandise back, seemingly, no matter what!😔🤷🏼♀️
It’s because they offer a two year warranty so if your product fails after having it for 18 months why wouldn’t you return it? That’s a large part of people choosing to buy from JL over other places. Something to consider when purchasing returns pallets
A Sebo vacuum cleaner with hepa things is the best. They last for a long long time, decades from my experience, have cushioned bumpers round them to prevent scratches on furniture, very very effective cleaners.
I love the fact yu have been completely transparent about the mistakes you made regarding the double purchase and extra costs. Amazing honesty!
I haven't watched the follow-up video yet, but one thing I wanted to say is that just plugging something in to see if it switches on is not akin to it actually working properly, which is the likely reason most of these things were returned originally (probably still within their warranty period).
Personally I would bever buy one of these pallets, as the risk is far too high. It's a gamble and I am not a gambling man.
Edit: I should have watched to the end before commenting. Glad to hear you say you would fully test before offering for resale.
Also, that bread maker with the bent plug pin. If that's the only issue preventing it working, other than the aesthetic issue of the dent, just cut the plug off and fit a new one! A simple and just a couple of quid repair that you just need to pop to B&Q/ScrewFix for to get a replacement plug.
I worked at John Lewis Customer Service (Oxford St) as a student, and bit beyond (from age 16 to 24-ish). We were told to NEVER question the customer, no matter how outrageous their claims and demands. We were instructed to go above and beyond what the customer demanded. Many customers took advantage of this and would return items they used for many years. Or sometimes, they would buy items to show-off during a dinner party and return them a week later (including gadgets and cushions). So not all returns are faulty. Most of the time the customer just didn't want the item anymore, but it was considered 'used' and couldn't be sold again, and 'disposed of' on one of these pallets.
And that’s why they are going under
On the corrale straighteners there’s a little switch thing with arrows on it, you need to pull it out and rotate it so the little arrow is pointing to the house picture and then push it back in.It should turn on then ready to heat up.Hope this helps you.
Thanks so much I will look into this 💕
Was just about to write this xxxx
They don’t work if they are plugged in!
i admire your honesty, well done young lady,i must admit i could only view your video for a short time up until you took the goods upstairs to your bedroom.Perhaps i missed the content that was important but i have never watched pallet of returns purchases and your item came up and out of genuine interest i decided to view part of your effort.
I have one of those Dualit toasters. It is so uneven. However, they are repairable as you can buy all the individual parts.
Rosie, bless you for being so honest about everything,I can see how upset you must of been, but the smeg toaster might only work if you put bread in it as it can sense, for safety’s sake that it isn’t loaded, so give it a try, you have worked so hard for this, I can understand your fear when things are not wrapped properly, I just can’t believe how people can send things back when not cleaned, but I have hope that you will make a profit, I don’t want you to lose out, your too kind. ❤️
Thank you 💕 ooh I didn’t think of that I will definitely try it out again, I’ve been working though it all and giving it a proper test and hoping olly can fix stuff 😂🙈 I’m so surprised how used the stuff is! Fingers crossed we can sell some 😬💕
Wow! what a refreshing change to see an honest pallet unboxing. My experience was similar to yours and not at all like Roxxysaurus or Emily Canhams. You are so lucky that the Sage coffee machines are in decent condition as they can turn up in bits so you have a chance to make a good chunk of your money back. You also deserve a lot of credit for continuing with the video and it says a lot about your character - most people would have pretended it hadn't happened. I look forward to seeing what happens next! PS is it wrong that I laughed out loud when you put the Miele together upside down!! Wishing you all the luck in the world from nearby Southampton.
Thank you! I’m glad you enjoyed it! I tried to be so honest because I don’t want others to get sucked in like I did 🙈 I’m pinning a lot on those coffee machines! Haha still trying to sell things at the moment but getting their slowly 🤞thanks for watching 😊
These returns pallets seem to include items that are returned for a number of reasons. So things like the vaccums that turned on and worked, but were used could easily be returned because they decided that they just didn't perform well. Or the customer experienced a drop in performance within the first few uses.
Or it could have been too heavy, or some other items to noisy.
I’m not surprised the items are used, most high end electrical items will have warranties and can be returned if they stop working after a year or two
All electrical items have a warranty.
but they should not be allowed to resell items that no longer work.
Maybe you will be luckier with palette number 2. I think you and Ollie are very capable of selling that stuff on. Don’t lose hope😊💕
Thank you 💕 we will definitely try out best! 🤍
Hi Rosie. Oh I loved this video. It was so exciting watching you unboxing things. Such a shame so many broken and used things but I really hope you make money when you resell. I hope your next pallet is better for you. Love your videos. Have a lovely day 🥰
Thank you so much I’m glad you loved it 😊 I hope I can sell some of it 🙈 have a lovely day too! 💕💕
I know this is 2 years old but for some of the broken things you could part them out For example the SMEG toaster if the outer panels were ok you could perhaps sell those
Hi Rosie … I sell on ebay full-time … mostly vintage china but I have sold electrical items that don’t work. Some people will buy them to fix and resell. You’d be amazed at what sells. Hope you at least get your money back. Really enjoyed your video 👍
Hey, thank you so much for the info! I will definitely give eBay a go, I feel like I have lots of bits that would be useful to someone! 😊
I wouldn’t return anything to a store unless it was faulty … so that alone puts me off buying returns.. the vitamix is brown because it’s used to blend veg for drinks.. I watched another one from John Lewis yesterday…. That was mostly broken items
Easy to be seduced by watching others’ successes with returns pallets, and it’s probably a false means of checking how lucrative reselling this way is. Much safer to assume that most people return faulty goods, not unliked ones. I felt for you but maybe better to be put off with your first try so you can (or did at the time) re-evaluate the wisdom of buying the unknown, especially when there have been unexpected costs. I so admire how honest you were and this is such a helpful video for others to see a realistic experience of returns pallets.
That smeg toaster is an old trick. I've seen it alot at my old work. They buy a second hand one then order a new one return there old one keep the new get there money back, then every year or so replace it for a new one.
Have tried selling items on Facebook or Facebook market place ?
My daughter puts items on there, only problem is that a lot of people want items almost giving.
With the electrical’s try change the fuse it could just be the plug x
How awful can’t believe people return items that clearly have been used so sorry you got a dreadful box I would not take the risk your very brave hopefully the second box will be rewarding .stay safe stay beautiful ❤️
People can return items if they are faulty, it may have appeared faulty when they returned but something was just stuck and jolted free.
The toaster won't engage without a piece of bread in it, so it might work after all.
Toasters dont work unless you put bread in it.....👍🏻
People typically only return electricals if they do not work as intended.
The hair straightener, maybe the fuse in the plug needs replacing ?
Having worked for JL I wouldn’t touch a pallet of return especially the clothing beware and check the plug fuses
If the item is used and has multi parts and main unit is not working. Then you can quite often part out all the pieces / accessories and in some cases I have exceeded the cost of a full item by selling off all the parts. Worth looking out for.
29:15 - my Sage coffee-machine makes the same noise when swifched on ! But the other one at 33m - if that's saying 'Change filter' that usually indicates at least 200 cups of coffee have been made with that current filter !
I feel like alot of John Lewis pallets are undisclosed sponsored videos which is so unfair I'm rooting for you and hope you get your money back
Evening Rosie have just come across your channel. How refreshing an honest hall. I didn’t know you could buy such pallets. Very informative and you are so brave yuk that vitamix. Crossing all my fingers that you make your money back. Lots of love 💕 xxx
Thank you I’m glad you enjoyed it 😊 haha I know that vitamix was quite a surprise 🙈 thank you so much 💕💕
Try the plug and see if the fuse is dead! For the hair tongs
Give the smegg toaster another try with bread in…. My toaster handle doesn’t close when empty
Interesting thanks for posting Rosie..👍
Best to pile everything back in the box, seal it up and get it back into the sales / auction circuit. There are plenty of mugs out there who will pay good money for this sort of stuff just for the pleasure of opening a surprise box and the unlikely hope of finding something wonderful.
This would give the best hope of recovering at least some of your money and save you the hassle of taking most of it to the public skip for responsible recycling.
This lot looks like it has done the rounds a few times already.
So you think it’s ok to con someone!
One small point to consider. It doesn't matter how old or used an item looks and how much you disapprove its condition, if it is still under any sort of time guarantee, then of course it's returnable, and you need to factor that in when deciding to purchase returns pallets. Would I not return something which was under any kind of guarantee, if I had any issue with it? Of course I'd return it. Because I'm not considering anyone who opts to buy pallets at auction to try to make money. I'm getting my own purchase price back for an item that hasn't worked out for me!
SMEG Toaster Put bread in. On some toasters they will not keep the spring down if it cannot sense the weight of the bread.
This was really interesting Rosie...You maybe able to get parts replaced so firms do that ...But I loved you gave it ago...Looking forward to the next one plus follow up to this x
Thank you 😊 yes that’s true! I will look into that might be an option 🤞
Fascinating!!! Cute vid.
But: the past tense of “bid” is “bid,” not “bidded.” 😅
You may just need to change the fuse in the plugs to make these things work
You put on a good face considering the circumstances I can see how you feel inside. Its a gamble where there is only one winner when it comes to returns.
Well you learned a good lesson. RRP is rarely used by stores. Stores charge their own price, usually lower.
Some of these comments don’t understand that you can return an electrical item even after 9 months. It’s warranty. It’s not gross that they have returned them if they stopped working.
Yeah you get say a year warranty so if it stops working within a year you can return it
You’re doing a solid job Rosie, I’m rooting for you!
Thanks so much 😊
Fair play for posting a video where things arent staged. JL have a v generous returns policy so some people will take advantage. To post this video would have taken courage. Well done.
To post this video would have taken courage? Being on a front line emergency service, armed forces takes courage not posting a video ffs It has had over 121k views so she's going to get sponsorship money anyway. People think that being a youtuber is a real job......
@@johnsmiths9682 well You've just contributed to the engagement on the vid. So there's that. But hey as a frontline worker, thanks for your courage and service.
@@could_try_harder To be fair I fell for the click bait heading of the video, so yes I am much to blame
Christmas day when you dont like you presents ❤❤❤😂
8:35 the blabbering continues, but the content starts. You're Welcome 😁 This was so painful to sit through, I bailed at the hair straightener
If it arrives open are you able to tell if anything is missing?
You can replace the plug on the bread machine I think. Might be worth finding a handyman to try and fix some of those items. Just an idea. Might still be worth it even after fixing.
I wonder whether the Smeg toaster will only work with bread in it?
Can you return an item to the manufacturer if it is not working?
No. She wouldn't have the original receipt or warranty from the time of sale.
Items can only be returned to the manufacturer, for a refund or replacement, if you're the original buyer. Or if you received the item as a gift (with receipt and warranty slip) from the original buyer.
I always say duel…..it. X
It’s like, the actual like, like okay like
i watched your video and thankyou for making me realize the extra costs guess i wont be doing it i would rather keep my money in my bank account and wont be stressing trying to sell it
To be honest, I wouldn't trust that the auctioneers haven't already been through these returns and have removed anything of real value first. Why wouldn't you do that if they were them? It's an auction remember, no guarantees or refunds. Caveat Emptor!
Ohhhhh I absolutely agree with you. That's what has always put me off this kind of thing. Same with storage box sales.
Dont touch them.
Aucton charges add up to third. Plus carriage.
Very little is new or undamaged, and the good stuff is filtered out by auction houses and sold to make them even more money.
separately.
The so called 'value' is RRP which is usually higher than retail selling price. You wont get anything like the selling price online selling. You can offer no warranty or returns......
And bear in mind a lot is unsold stock, unpopular, poor, or overpriced to start with.
You'll only do it once !
😱
Sounds like the pallet sellers / auctioneers are having a laugh tbh , it leaves a nasty taste on the palate😢😂
No way would I ever buy a palette of used good from any shop knowing what people in Britain 🇬🇧 love to do, and that’s use it just till it’s due to return, and get their money back on an item that’s been used and sent back not working and dented, your never going to get back your money, that you must agree was your fault for not doing your due diligence. I really do admire you for giving it a go but, it’s just proved to me that, there is no profit to be made from returns. However I hope your hard work draws you even ❤
You haven’t seen the video then where she shows you how much profit she made.
I have a Shark steam mop, it’s great, inexpensive and works quickly and very well. I had 2 others of different brand which died in a few uses.
Glad you posted this, in a nutshell; buyer beware and prepare to pay tax on top of VAT and even more tax after that! Hope you have better luck next time, if there is a next time!!
I’m so surprised that they are reselling returns in such poor condition. 😟 I really hope you are luckier with the second pallet 🤞🏻
Unplug charging cord some dont work till unpluged
Hi Rosie what a brilliant vlog I hope you can get your money back by selling things on.it’s one thing iv wanted to do my self but didn’t realise the hidden costs.good luck with resale carnt wait for your other vlog xx
Thank you 💕 I’m going to try my best 😂🙈 yes lots of hidden costs 😬
Thanks for this. I've always been curious about people buying these pallets. Seems like a lot of work. I certainly hope that you managed to make some money on it. Best wishes from Toronto 🇨🇦😊
It’s been so much work 🙈 still working on it now, hoping to have sold everything soon 🤞thank you so much 😊
Check fuse in smeg toaster.
She's pleased some things are working. Turning on is not working, I bet these items are not listed as used returns.
Try to complain less. And the used and wirking can be clean. Btw, Vita Mix is one of the best on the market. Don't think it is that old and pretty it will sell.
Rule of thumb, take the £5k, if it’s working and used you can expect to sell it for about 50% sometimes more sometimes less but you’ll have fees etc, so max a decent pallet would be worth is around £2.5k before selling fees.
However we know some will be broken and mostly worthless, however parts can bring money. Some will be new, but you are unlikely to get John Lewis prices for selling brand new items on eBay and market place. You probably won’t lose all your money, but you’ll lose a large chunk!
Forgive me for mentioning this but there’s no such word as ‘bidded.’ It is always ‘bid’ as in ‘I bid £50’ or ‘I bid £100.’ 🙏🏻
I agree, a lot of youtubers use words that don't even exsist. You would think that doing a video they would look to see if that word was real or not.
@@lizvickers7156a bit like the word exsist? 🙄🙄🙄
@@SausageSideways😂
John Lewis shouldn’t be allowing customers to bring back old filthy items as returns when in such bad obviously very used condition
Why? If they allow it, they obviously were still having guarantee and just broke, so a customer had every right to return it
Bet Holly said another crazy idea you have😂😂😂
Maybe purchase a new container for it the vitamix as the the motor is the selling point
Also you May want to check fuses some products maybe good but the fuses are gone
Hope you had better luck with the next pallet.
Good luck with everything 👍
Only just found you and binge watching all videos!!!! obsessed with you! Did you try changing any fuses for the items that weren't working, sometimes this can be the case! xx
Thank you so much! 💕💕 we’ve be working on fixing things but on the things that aren’t working it doesn’t seem to be the fuses 😔
15 mins of mind numbing chat before the pallet is opened
People don't realise that toasters have a pull out tray under the toaster to clean the crumbs out
Toaster may not be broken, some things only work with bread in it.
Extra costs are quite typical it's the same as going to a car auction pay £5,000 for a car you got to pay extra £1,250 to cover fees.
loved the video. not sure i could be so brave on taking on gamble but good luck to you. i really want to see you make a huge profit so you can do some more xx
Can I ask you,,, from where you bought it,,,the website please
Please from where to buy the pallets in UK
She said it in the video and it’s in the description but the company is William George
Surely the fact they are damaged it’s the reason they returned and that’s the risk you take buying one of these pallets. Things may work or they might not…
Some people attempt to fix the items to sell them on, or buy replacement parts, so for example the hair straighteners, if the light isn’t on the power leads sounds like you might just need to buy a new power lead
Hi Rosie. Loved this video. ❤️ I can't believe how people can return items that have been fully used 😳 I really hope you make your money back sweetie. I don't think I will be doing one of these videos now. I had no idea about all the costs. Really informative video. 👏 ❤❤
Thank you 💕 the extra costs are so surprising aren’t they! Makes it not worth it 🙁 I’m going to try my best to sell! 🙈
Looking forward to see the next coming videos with you re-selling 🤗 great video!
Thank you so much 💕💕
Great video of what brands NOT to buy!
Don't put those dirty boxes/packaging on your bed!!!
When I worked at a high end department store, we had people purchase items like these at discount elsewhere, then return to our store for refund or replacement. 😒
PS: Vitamix repairs/replaces their blenders for life in most cases. They’re intended to last. I’d recommend contacting them for an inexpensive or free spruce up service.
Really! People do try it on 🙈 ooh thank you I will definitely look into that! 💕
@@RosieTilley I second that. I've had my Vitamix for 6 years now and they are practically indestructible. You could definitely resell it.
Great video! I would love to know the outcome x
I love that arty picture!
Why wouldn’t you sell the vita mix? I sold my 4 year old one on eBay for over £100
