It's great to see the DRAMA album played in it's entirety! I was at 2 of 3 Philadelphia 1980 YES DRAMA shows. These performances at Glasgow remind me of those excellent concerts!
YES to be inducted into Rock & Roll Hall of Fame 2017. Invited members are the UNION tour. Jon Anderson, Bill Bruford, Steve Howe, Tony Kaye, Trevor Rabin, Chris Squire, Rick Wakeman, Alan White. Should have happened sooner as of course Chris Squire will not be there (RIP).
I have been a Yes fan since around 1973 and saw them several times in times past. Difficult as it is to admit, they really do come across as a tribute band now. There are no original members left since Chris passed. The old magic is gone. Please, guys, it's time to retire.
Steve has been my number 1 guitar guru since the 70's, and Yes my favorite band, but I totally agree with you. I would count White and Howe as original members, certainly re: their prime days in the 70's, but yeah, it's time for them to hang it up, IMO. But then, we aren't in their shoes: if you've done nothing else but play in a band for the majority of your life, it's gotta be hard to give it up - kinda like admitting that you're old and tired, your life is over, etc.. Obviously, poor Keith Emerson couldn't handle it. Mortality is a bitch. If it was me, I'd gladly give it up in favor of hanging out with family and friends, doing other projects, doing volunteer work for different causes, writing a book, giving lessons to a few hand-picked people, etc.
benoit david's voice actually sounds closer to horn's; and andersons; but he did'nt look the part; and he had to stop due to a resperatory problem. davison's voice is good; but a bit too soft for some tracks.
I thought the show was great, they played with lots of energy. I don't get what people have against Davison, his voice is ideal for Yes music and with respect to the negative commentators you can't judge a a band watching a clip filmed on a person's phone.
You have a point, David, but that same person's cell phone captures the timing mistakes and wrong notes as handily as a 64-track digital studio. I'll admit I'm old and jaded now, but you should have heard Yes with the real lineup back in the early-to-mid '70s. This current Yes (and I've seen them live, too) is an average, fatiguing tribute band. ARW is the band of the future.
Well, the Drama album simply kicks ass, and Howe, White, and Downes were on that album, so right on!! Andersen wasn't, and it still simply YES! I'll be there in Anaheim later this month. saw the set it , it's solid, but I do wish Yours in no disgrace was there.
I always give my personal opinion whether people like it or not. Being an audience recording it is hard to tell what is what. But I am surprised that they decided to do Drama. It was an album that was never meant for such a high singing voice. Just from this video, I would say that it does not sound very good. Davison has a beautiful high voice, but this was written to be played by Trevor Horn, who sings at a lower and more powerful range. I wanted to like this, but I have to be honest, I think they should of picked another yes album. Hopefully the tales from topographic ocean stuff will sound better vocally. The music sounds fine.
Watching the "more mature" version of White and Howe play this live makes you appreciate how difficult the music must have been to perform back when they were younger. I have a lot more respect for the complexity of the Drama songs now than I did when the album was new. Great songs. Too bad they can't quite keep up with them any more.
I was just watching the official video for this song released in 1980, and this is absolutely dreadful. Why can't old rockers just retire with dignity?
Well, they kicked butt here on the US summer tour. A great recording (Drama). This seemed a bit muddy -- it would be a nice bonus treat on the inevitable live CD, even if Trevor needed to overdub vocals.
The same people who trash Yes today, are the same type of fans who trashed Drama when it came out, and Yes West during the 80s. Jon Anderson should have never made music with Vangelis. Get mad at him. I love Drama and every version of Yes. Long live the greatest band of all time!
Jon is amazing with Vangelis, why do you hate that ?!?!? You clearly haven't listened to Deborah. I also don't really like Davison but everything that has one or more Yes members is for me Yes.
Downes isn't up for the task of playing all of Yes' songs. But I get it. Steve Howe, who is not near to what he used to be, wants a lesser player/member next to him (remembering Asia)
Oh man, I am the biggest Alan White fan around, but he was a total train wreck. Folks, when you drummer is a train wreck, the rest of the band unfortunately crashes too.
+Billy The P You are obviously NOT a big White fan. LOL. And sure he's not up to his 1970s/80s form, but it is NOT a train wreck at all. I'm a drummer. I have worked with two members of Yes and I will strongly stand by my statements. Viva la Yes and viva la Alan!!!!!!!!!
+donutcookiepie hes right, when yes made their best stuff they were young and playing to the limits of their abilities, theres no way at their age they can still do it. apart from Anderson whos an alien! once they split up in 1980 they never quite regained that almost psychic way of playing together. they were on another planet.
I would also point out that this is the first show of the tour, and Drama is also first in the set list. Things tightened up as they went along. And the sound was also much better after half-time adjustments.
I wouldn't go as far to say he was a trainwreck, but something's going on. I last saw Yes in 2010, and he was drumming like he was in pain even then- slower tempos, limited movement, simplified fills, etc. By contrast, Neil Peart is almost as old, and still plays everything note-for-note. He was perfect when I saw Rush last year, even with his tendinitis. So I don't know what's up with Alan White. I still love the drumming he's put down on tape, and his '70s and '80s live drumming is so energetic.
I think people should give Davison a break. He was obviously hired because he sounded so much like Anderson and he does that perfectly well here. He sounds like Anderson would have had he chosen to ruin a Horn era song.
2:12 I don't know if Davison really sings like that or is trying to imitate Trevor Horn's strong british accent, but it looks like he's trying to. (Using short "a" sound on "fast" and "back")
No, what they should do is pull Steve, Alan back with Jon, Rick and Trevor .... ARW is going to be awesome and have so much more energy than this! I like Geoff and I understand Billy was Chris's friends. But Steve can mend fences with Trevor and they can have one big hoo rah with ARW ... (they could probably afford to retire in style if they did)
I am a big time Yes fan love them to death love the music however, I really feel that Alan which by the way is one of my drumming influences but! he needs to retire for reals he has been slipping down for a while now... sorry guys
donutcookiepie you are right not my call however, it would be a shame to keep on trying to play and play songs that are so demanding of power and technic which he had! Yes demands perfection and Alan has been making to many mistakes... anyway long live YES!!!
Yeah, it's not John's "call to make", but that's really irrelevant. It IS John's right to be able to make that observation and express it. This performance is lethargic, uninspired and sad. Sad in that they don't seem to be concerned about just how far not only Alan but the band as a whole has slipped down.
+John Perez what exactly, pray tell was LACKING in Alan;'s performance? FIRST NIGHT OF ANY TOUR in their entire history has always been a bit shaky, not withstanding.
Its terrible, Steve & Alan should just suck it up and tell Jon Anderson there sorry and go back to the yes they need to be , Billy is okay but Geoff & Jon D. has to go
Are some real about their expectations? Do they really want pro quality from mobile phones? the jokes on them because this performence is nowehere near as bad as they have been saying.
@@JackBobsonOfficial Care to elaborate? Some claim Davison isn't any good. They expect a 100 perce0nt crbon copy of J+on A0nderson. They carry false expectations. Chris Squire carried YES through troubled times and he did a good job. He chose Jon Davison. So he can't be as bad as some Jon Anderson fans make out.
That performance totally sucked. The stage seemed empty without Chris Squire, and that singer has got to go. He sounds like a man trying to sound womanly.
Love this song, the album and the tour in 1980. Great to hear it again, just wish they had done it while Chris were still alive.
It's great to see the DRAMA album played in it's entirety! I was at 2 of 3 Philadelphia 1980 YES DRAMA shows. These performances at Glasgow remind me of those excellent concerts!
Shame about the sound quality but I always thought this song would be better sang by Anderson, Horn was IMO crap.
@@firewizzard86 Horn was fine to me. The only thing was that on Drama he had to sing a very high tone to match Jon’s vocal tone.
Wow! Never thought I'd see this played live. Love it!
A mirage of what is one of the best prog songs of all time.
Best Yes copy-band I've heard in a while.
great performance and great memories...thanks for share...hugs

One of my fav songs by Yes off of their best album
thank god for steve howe, the man.
Thanks for posting! Awesome stuff!

Actually three out of the five guys on stage were on the Drama album where this song came from.
Yeah unfortunately this was really bad.... :/
thank you for saying this. I agree, Big fan but guys...
Excelente tema, de un gran álbum!!
This sounds good! There is no bigger fan of Drama than me. I give my approval. Keep on going, guys!!! Yes is alive and well.
Seems that this Jon Davison guy can ruin Trevor Horn songs too.
It's Anderson and that's not even Jon Anderson.
Always liked the drama album but never thought it a yes album
benoit david's voice actually sounds closer to horn's; and andersons; but he did'nt look the part; and he had to stop due to a resperatory problem. davison's voice is good; but a bit too soft for some tracks.

That's true but i still have a passion for great music even if there is the odd mistake
David McGeoch I

steves sound aint right, its lacking a slight overdriven sound that he used to get. it sounds digital?
I think he just rolled back the gain over the years. This is evident going back to Keys to Ascension. I agree it's too "clean" sounding.
I much prefer the bootleg from the Drama tour recorded in Boston Sept 9th 1980, as it showed just how special this version of Yes really was!
The same people who trash Yes today, are the same type of fans who trashed Drama when it came out, and Yes West during the 80s. Jon Anderson should have never made music with Vangelis. Get mad at him. I love Drama and every version of Yes. Long live the greatest band of all time!

Does Davison do Fly From Here too? I'd like to hear Anderson have a crack at them too.
OMG.
Downes isn't up for the task of playing all of Yes' songs. But I get it. Steve Howe, who is not near to what he used to be, wants a lesser player/member next to him (remembering Asia)
great progressive song
Oh dear. the band should be re-named, its an insult to YES tbh.
Is that Billy Sheehan on bass?
What is this cover band called?
Oh man, I am the biggest Alan White fan around, but he was a total train wreck. Folks, when you drummer is a train wreck, the rest of the band unfortunately crashes too.

what is Alan White doing?
I don't know how much longer they are going to keep Davison. I will never go see them as long as he's in the band.
it will be your loss
No loss to me. I've seen them many times since 1974, i prefer to remember them as they were. Not as they are now.
How much do you think each member makes a year? Why do it?
Man, I love Drama. But with Trevor Horn vocals, sorry. They are absolutely amazing!
I think people should give Davison a break. He was obviously hired because he sounded so much like Anderson and he does that perfectly well here. He sounds like Anderson would have had he chosen to ruin a Horn era song.
Jon Davison has absolutely no stage presence.
Esta formación de yes da mucha pena...
El cantante no ganaría un premio en the voice....
Una débil sombra de la solida historia de yes.....
This yes me like much .remenber current
2:12 I don't know if Davison really sings like that or is trying to imitate Trevor Horn's strong british accent, but it looks like he's trying to. (Using short "a" sound on "fast" and "back")

Who is that singing?
Awful; Davison looks and sounds like a girl. Time to call it a day lads. You're all past it.
Ehat guitar Steve is playing?

Oh Dear. Chris will be spinning in his grave...
not really he requested on his death bed they keep on going.
Yeah, but not with Drama :D
Drama is one of their best albums. I'm sure Chris regarded it highly enough.
Jon's ok but that voice needs a power boost.
curly437
Sounds like a choirboy.
Yes should of asked Steve Perry to sing for the band. That would of been killer...... different but killer!! 🌋🏨
Brilliant!
I don't see them live anymore--and I was the biggest Yes fan---still love Howe and White but singer and the rest is so bad---no chemistry
I am a big time Yes fan love them to death love the music however, I really feel that Alan which by the way is one of my drumming influences but! he needs to retire for reals he has been slipping down for a while now... sorry guys

el vocalista la hace con la voz de trevor..
Its terrible, Steve & Alan should just suck it up and tell Jon Anderson there sorry and go back to the yes they need to be , Billy is okay but Geoff & Jon D. has to go
The singer must move a few miles away from the microphone God that bad
One comment " Great", next comment,"Trash",is this really Yes?
no he wont
Nope
How sad is this
Don't know. How long you been gripin' ?
The singer, noooooooooo! Bad version.
the sound is not great and the acoustic terrible, he is actually a great singer, better then Trevor Horn.
+Liberal Media Bias I agree that he's great. Horn is a great talent too. But his range in just lower.
It was meant to be sung in a lower key
poor voice, worst impossible!!!
The singer is tone deaf to the original voice of Trevor Horn.
Very very bad copy of the Real yes....the singer doesnt sing....just make noises.....its an ofense to the memory of yes. ....🤮🤮🤮
Le son est dégueulasse !
this is insulting
my god, this Jon is not up to this, no power at all in the voice. Evan Trevor Horn (the Trevors) voice is more powerfull ------ YOU ARE KILLING YES
Vocals lack energy, and the bass sound (obviously) is all wrong.
Are some real about their expectations? Do they really want pro quality from mobile phones? the jokes on them because this performence is nowehere near as bad as they have been saying.
