No one is mentioning the fact that the guys hired to kill him had a podcast where they try out ineffective gadgets and then Fred Armisen trying the disguised Pen gun blowing up his fingers is like the most intricate Set up and Payoff Joke in this show
The writing for this was so spot on. Being able to identify a threat and change immediately is something that only experience can do. The calm demeanor when Barry identified the threat was perfect.
Man I miss this show. Such a great mixture of so many genres. I love how Barry mainly survived by sheer luck due to everyone being so incompetent. Always gave him the opportunity to put his lethal skills to use because they mess up somehow. Only show you'd be laughing during a horrific gun fight.
Barry's action always reminds me of the chase scene in Raising Arizona. Hilarious chaos and the lead is the only one that seems understand how crazy things actually are. It's like they're in the eye of the tornado.
Armisen totally threw me off in this scene and I couldn't stop laughing at him, so the action surprised me. I had to rewind the scene and watch it again. The cameos for this episode were surprising and fantastic.
The second I saw Fred Armisen I couldn’t stop laughing and knew immediately that he was one of the hitmen referred to in the beginning of the episode and that Barry was in danger
There are mag dumps, then there are MAG DUMPS From a fundamental perspective, I love that Bill or the showrunners have at least had some light weapons training that really ties it all together with his line of work and backstory. Amazing series; epic scene!
Any time Hader and Armisen are in anything together, it's perfect. I laughed so hard at Armisen's face and knew something awesome was about to happen as soon as he appeared. I'd love to know how many takes this scene took based on how easily Bill always broke on SNL, especially when Fred was in the scene
You know I saw this scene online about a week before I started watching the show. Despite that, I STILL laughed my ASS OFF at it like it was new. Ridiculousness at its best!
The guy merc'ing 4-5 people but then somehow getting himself strung up in the wire out of incompetence as he bursts from the ceiling is the funniest visuals I've seen in this show so far.
This is why I love this show the constant unrealistic realism that is the reality that would progress out of situations like this. Plan all you want humans and shit happen and that’s reality life isn’t a James Bond film no matter how much I love each and every one of them in chronological order.
Finally finished watching all of Barry this past week and I really like how Fred Armisen looks 190% like someone who has a bad poker face and knows he’s got a shitty hand. Like Barry could see something was up a mile away. Helps sell the dark comedy of this scene
its crap.......There is something so fake and so ungrounded with this whole show. All the Groundings and Second City and SCTV and Saturday Night Live do simple comedies really really well. But they really fail at dark comedy like this. They always use inappropriate expressions, they over act, They strip away the realness required in the scene. And you never get carried away in their performance. Especially Bill Hader. You never watch Bill and forget who he is. you are never watching the experience of an assassins life. you are always watching Bill Hader playing an assassin and you are always reminded that its Bill Hader playing an assassin.
The assassins facial expressions and the way Barry does a double take after leaving the room, like he can’t even believe it’s real and he just looks so confused. This scene was as hilarious as it was awesome
Barry is just such an amazing show. Top 5 shows ever directed in my opinion. It literally has everything you want from this genre. It has super sad moments but also hilarious ones with people like Hank and Kristobal. It shows Barry being an absolute badass and a cracking shot, but also that he has serious flaws in his game like when he got fucked up by the kickboxer on multiple occasions. Bill Hader has some serious talent, both as an actor and a director, and I would not be surprised to see box office movies with his name by them in a couple of years
Okay, so I know that, diegetically, Barry's busy squinting at Fred's character trying to figure him out but given how bemused Barry looks in this moment I also desperately want to think that Fred just randomly walked onto the set, one day, and Bill only noticed he was there in the middle of filming the scene - like "Fred?! What the ever-loving heck are YOU doing here?!?!" Honestly? Fred would! 😂
If the pen gun had worked it would've actually been a really good hit. The guy in the ceiling i think was supposed to clean up the guards and he did his job perfectly.

No one is mentioning the fact that the guys hired to kill him had a podcast where they try out ineffective gadgets
and then Fred Armisen trying the disguised Pen gun blowing up his fingers is like the most intricate Set up and Payoff Joke in this show
Holy shit, I completely missed that!!!!
Oh shit. Chekov’s failed gun lol
Bro what a good catch 😂
I was too shocked to even recognize that when I watched it. Nice catch!
That was the first thing I noticed.
Best scene....best episode ever!!!
I always love how calm Barry is in these moments of someone trying to kill him
He’s used to it 😂 not the first time Hank has tried to kill Barry
I love Fred Armisen so much and being surprised by a peak goofy Fred Armisen scene made my damn day. Absolutely incredible.
The writing for this was so spot on. Being able to identify a threat and change immediately is something that only experience can do. The calm demeanor when Barry identified the threat was perfect.
This is awesome. I was picking up several subtle things in this. He’s standing in front to the “no weapons sign. lol.
I thought Fred Armisen character knew him from possibly serving together but then I realized the hit hank put out... this scene had me cracking up 😂
Best way to bring Bill and Freds crazy hilarious chemistry into a semi serious show. I died laughing at this.
Man I miss this show. Such a great mixture of so many genres. I love how Barry mainly survived by sheer luck due to everyone being so incompetent. Always gave him the opportunity to put his lethal skills to use because they mess up somehow. Only show you'd be laughing during a horrific gun fight.
try ash vs evil dead
Barry's action always reminds me of the chase scene in Raising Arizona. Hilarious chaos and the lead is the only one that seems understand how crazy things actually are. It's like they're in the eye of the tornado.
Something i noticed is that barry didnt offer much resistance to the assasin and became shocked when the pen actually exploded and had second thoughts
Great acting this is the best comedy crime series I've watched
Just got to love how quickly this all devolves into pure chaos.
What a great ending.
Seeing them back together was awesome!
Armisen totally threw me off in this scene and I couldn't stop laughing at him, so the action surprised me. I had to rewind the scene and watch it again. The cameos for this episode were surprising and fantastic.
The best show any SNL character has ever had
The second I saw Fred Armisen I couldn’t stop laughing and knew immediately that he was one of the hitmen referred to in the beginning of the episode and that Barry was in danger
There are mag dumps, then there are MAG DUMPS
From a fundamental perspective, I love that Bill or the showrunners have at least had some light weapons training that really ties it all together with his line of work and backstory.
1:50 i love how instead of trying to disarm the assassin the agents just move out of the way for him to shoot
I mean he pulls out a gun disguised as a pen so in their eyes he’s just pointing a pen at him
Barry finds a gun and immediately takes control and handles the situation, great example of PTSD
Out of life, more like.
This is why I love this show the constant unrealistic realism that is the reality that would progress out of situations like this. Plan all you want humans and shit happen and that’s reality life isn’t a James Bond film no matter how much I love each and every one of them in chronological order.
Best scene in one of my favourite shows ever I’ll miss it but it’s been a journey
only a few great series ever made. this is one.
“Autism be damned my boy can work a gun.” - Fuches
Great cameos and surprises all around this episode, including the warden… ‘Where the hell is Berkmann? I have People Skills, don’t you see that?!!!’
Love how Fred Armisen speaks perfect spanish, and yet even him pronounces the name CrisTObal as CRIStobal.
The assassins facial expressions and the way Barry does a double take after leaving the room, like he can’t even believe it’s real and he just looks so confused. This scene was as hilarious as it was awesome
I keep coming back to this because of the way Barry looks around when the cop says his name. It’s just too good.
Bill Hader has some serious talent, both as an actor and a director, and I would not be surprised to see box office movies with his name by them in a couple of years
I love how out of everyone in the room who was sniped, including the shooter himself, the guy with an injured hand is kept alive and squealing.

I love how even when the shows at its darkest it’s not afraid to make you laugh still.
This is simultaneously one of the most uncomfortable and hilarious scenes I’ve seen in a tv show-
Okay, so I know that, diegetically, Barry's busy squinting at Fred's character trying to figure him out but given how bemused Barry looks in this moment I also desperately want to think that Fred just randomly walked onto the set, one day, and Bill only noticed he was there in the middle of filming the scene - like "Fred?! What the ever-loving heck are YOU doing here?!?!"
Honestly? Fred would! 😂
Why though?
(SMALL SPOILERS)
Just realized that Chuy is the last person Barry kills in the whole show
Man this episode was brilliant. The moment Fuges watching rainman and saying " this is us" 😂 oh my god that was brilliant
I love this and have watched it a couple times. I still wonder how you hide an assassin in the ceiling of a maximum security prison.
If the pen gun had worked it would've actually been a really good hit. The guy in the ceiling i think was supposed to clean up the guards and he did his job perfectly.
the face he makes while backing up and shooting is such a badass cowboy kinda scowl especially with the bruises and bandages. such a small detail but one of my favorite parts
If you added a laugh track this would literally be an SNL skit. Bill might’ve hated his time there but god damn he learned some things
@@gezenews You’re a sharp one
i dont think he hated his time there, he just had anxiety that made it difficult to perform
Barry is one of the best shows ever created.
