  • To waterproof the shower, I chose a penetrating sealer that will penetrate deep into the grout causing a chemical bond with the cement, it wont change the look of tiles or grout, colours are unaffected, its waterproof, breathable and not slippery.
    In this video I give you some important tips when applying a penetrating sealer to the tiles and grout in your bathroom or shower.
    and stay tuned for a ‘6 weeks later’ review, and did it work?

    Thank you for the video mate, I’m in the gold coast and both of our showers have had cracked grout lines and two or three cracked tiles, Unfortunately our showers have had existing leaks from years upon years of use but fortunately a couple of your videos have given me reassurance in what to do and how to go about it till we can afford a full bathroom renovation.

    When you are wiping the walls down after applying the sealant, doesn't this remove some of the product from the grout? Pardon me if this seems like a stupid question.

    • @InspireDIY
      @InspireDIY  2 роки тому +3

      Hey Mila, great question.. Penetrating or impregnating sealers work differently to a surface sealer, once applied any remaining sealer that has not soaked into the pores of the grout or stone should be wiped away (within 20 mins) so it doesn't leave a hazy, sticky or greasy residue. I hope this answers your Q. best of luck mate, Kent

    • @InspireDIY

      Hey c l, yeah I would👍 scratch back the old grout a few millimeters, then reapply a new layer of grout over the whole lot. Then it’s a personal preference to seal, if you are worried about leaks I would seal as grout is porous like a sponge. Let me know how you get on🤙Kent

    If you use epoxy grout do you need to waterproof it after?

    • @InspireDIY
      @InspireDIY  Рік тому

      Hey Rebel, the installers of this epoxy grout claim that it is a waterproofing fix for a shower. to be fair - it is when its first installed, but with any settling house, any building movement, timber floor etc, which all leaky showers seem to be in then as soon as the epoxy grout separates from the tile then it's not waterproof any more. it wouldn't be my pick as a fix! best of luck mate, Kent
