This was awesome!! Thanks so much mate for such a thorough video. I’m just about to regrout our shower and thought it best to watch a video first. I’m so happy I found your video and can’t wait to have our shower look like new. I’ll update once it’s all done. Cheers from Brisbane 👍🏼
This is the best how-to video I've ever seen, not just for grout but for anything! Thank you so much.
Excellent clear explanation. Great that you also covered all the small details as well the overall procedure.
Very easy to follow. Thanks so much for this. Will have a go on leaking areas over the weekend.
Best handyman video I’ve seen yet. Explained and demonstrated very well! I love the “When I say properly, I mean properly” comment
Very thorough and helpful. Great job. You did not seem nervous! Good luck.
Well Richard that was simple and to the point. No bs and clearly explained. Well done one of the best detailed explanations, with excellent step by step instruction. Awesome work Richard from Dave in South Australia.
I like the common sense, straight to the point explaining. This is what one is expected to cone across while working on this project. 👍👍👍
Just wanted to drop in how informative this video is and how it made so easy to understand step by step process you followed. Please don't stop making DIY videos. Thanks 🙏
Aloha from Hilo Hawaii. Im attempting to regrout my 8' x 5' shower all by my big girl self and came across your video. You are the only one that was on point, stuck to the task at hand, easy to understand, and covers everything in order. After purchasing 3 different grout removal tools and finally found one that works (oscillating multifunction tool w/ a grout bit kit) I am now ready and confident to start the job (well, actually ill start it next week..lol). Mahalo nui loa (thank you very much in Hawaiian).
That was one of the best DIY videos I have ever watched. Thanks
Kostas Nick Thank you, we have been extremely busy and have not had any time to make more videos. We are planning to produce a new video every 2 weeks starting next month. Thank you for your support

Thank you very much for a great video. The process is really well explained in a logical step by step manner and you include relevant tips and 'gotchas'. It's so well done it gave me the confidence to tackle the job. In fact, I type after completing the re-grouting. Obviously you make it look quick however I just took my time doing small section by small section. I'm very happy with the result, now to watch your siliconing video. Thank you again .... cheers Robert
Thanks Richard. One of the best tutorials for regrouting.
Cheers Mate 👍🏽

hi do you need to remove "all" the grout? or is it ok if some old grout is left in?
Hey wanted to ask, I've got tiles missing in my bathroom floor. I've cleaned out the area of old grout as much as possible and I want to replace a few times and fill any missing spaces with grout.. Will this work or do I need to have some kind of adhesive first on the floor/sement? Thanks!
Too Good!
Thanks Richi
Aweaome video, but what happens with the membrane underneath?? Will the grout seal the whole shower of and stop the water leaking through??
Great thanks heaps.
Good video
Thank you 🙏
Very well explained! Thanks guys. I almost feel like I could do that to my old shower. Any advice on cleaning old tiles?
Jeff Walters Thank you for your comments. There are special cleaning products for tiles and grout. Alternatively you could use water and bleach or a steam cleaner. I hope this helps. Thanks
Great video, comprehensive and well explained, thanks!
How long to wait for drying? 2 days?
Also, can I silicone over grout before the drying time is up? Thanks.
Hi LEX
It usually takes the grout about 2 days to fully set. You can silicone over wet grout but its very messy and not recommended as it my compromise the seal.
Thank You
Richard
Done my first job today what a kuntt 😊
thanks,
Once the new grout is dry (in two days time) does it need a sealant?
Thanks
good thanks
Thank you Young man
How much time approximately needs to regrout one medium sized bathroom? And if I hire technician how much should I pay him?
Can the dirty water be emptied down the drain?
Is it easy to remove grout, and re grout sections that are quite thin? Would using a box cutter for the smaller be okay and proper tools for larger sections?
Great video and gives me the confidence to have a go myself. One question though which is how long do you leave the grout after the initial application and before you start sponging off. Likewise how long do you wait after sponging and before polishing ?
Denis Patterson regarding the sponging off question, some grouts are different so read the bag and it will tell you, but a good way to tell is when it you rub your finger in the excess grout on the tile it doesn’t stick to your finger, and polishing is better the next day when the grout has cured so you don’t rub any out and create a low spot, but you can leave it for a few hours then go over it gently with a rag.
Dead set excellent instructional video bud. Legend like you need to make more videos like this!!!!!
Good well informative video, quick question & forgive my ignorance but arnt you supposed to fix or make sure the water proofing is structurally sound before the re grout as the grout on its own is not a water proof barrier.
How essential is it to completely scrape out the old grout?
How long after grouting does it need to dry before the shower can be used? Thank you for sharing!
8:40 the consistency you want to make it is similar to hummus but not baba ghanoush or tarator🌲🌲♥♥
Has anyone used a dremel tool for re-grouting?
I have the same problem with my shower, do I have clean the grouting like you doing or can I put it over the existing one ?
El buddy buddy Roman you need to remove the old grout otherwise it wont stick
What about grout sealer as the final process when grouting / rerouting shower tiles that leak?
There are products that when mixed with grout will help the grout to last longer. Sealer is really designed to prevent staining, it could help with water but i wouldn't bet on it.
Great video. Thank you. We have a second floor shower leaking that is dripping onto the ceiling underneath and it appears to be the grout but does this solve the problem or does the shower pan require replacing as well?
r velas hi. Well that’s the question I’m trying to figure out. If the pan was good, I am not sure it would be leaking through to the floor below would it?
great video. Do you gave any tips or advice on how to not damage/gouge the thinset and backer board beneath the grout when using the oscillating tool?
Hi John Soleimanian
When you are using the oscillating tool you will feel when it gets through the grout before you damage anything underneath. If you have signs of a leak it's a good indication that your water proofing has been compromised anyway. You only need to take off about 3mm, just enough for the new grout to have room to grab the tile.
thank you for your comment
Thank you! Last question Is the risk of cracking tile with the oscillating tool from hitting the tile, or can the vibration also cause tiles to crack?
Hi John Soleimanian
The chances of you cracking a tile are slim. In the off chance that you do just glue it back in place and grout over the top of it.
Hope this helps
Thanks
Took 10 hours to do 20sq/ft. of 3/8" grout lines. Ill stick to the method in the video but do you (as a professional) still use an oscillating tool for grout lines that wide?
John Soleimanian yes i do as it is much faster and cleaner then using hand tools. Thank you
Thanks for this. I need to regrout mosaics. Can I use a machine like yours for this or do I need to use a hand tool to remove the old grout? Also I think you mentioned not to regrot the corners as they will crack. Can you talk abou this some more, I’m not sure what to do as the grout is missing. Thanks again. Good work.
the silicon bead makes it waterproof. you don’t want to grout it because it will flex with the wall and cause the rigid grout to crack. the silicon will have more flexibility
What do you do when the grinder jumps and you scratch the tile pretty good?
If you can find a matching tile you can replace it. If not you are in a bit of trouble. You could get a different tile as a feature but you’ll need to take others out to create a theme.
Wow, this is fantastic! You’re a natural presenter and explain it so well. Really helpful! Thanks so much!
