HOW TO PLAY Lead Guitar // AFTER 50 // Start Improvising!!!
Вставка
- Опубліковано 13 жов 2024
- Many of us feel trapped in the 1st position pentatonic scale. We can better improvise some lead guitar if we slide to some other pentatonic positions. When you play a lead guitar solo you should be able to move around the fretboard.
Great lesson brother. Ive been playing over 50 yrs and never really understood how to make those moves May God richly bless you. Eddie
Glad you got something from the lesson Eddie! Blessings to you also🙏
I've never been shown that center of the scale slide into next position
@@etbiged03 cool! A simple way to move around the fretboard! Later👍

Great lesson brother. Can I ask you what is your amp and pedals.

Cool! Good to hear from you, Brian👍
Another lesson that opens up my eyes a little bit more to understand the fredboard....thanks
We are getting a little better every day! Thanks for checking out the video! Talk to you soon👍
Another angle would be to see it as the AGE of caged in Dm. That is how I have learned to see it. Even so, Rusty reinforces the transition beautifully.
That’s a good way to look at it Mack! Thanks for checking out the video! Later man 🤛
Thank you Sir! I never thought of it this way!! Thanks again!!

Saving this in my guitar favorites list!! You sir...rock🤘
Right on Robert! Thanks and keep rockin ✌️
Excellent! I've got the 5 positions memorized but I've always had trouble connecting & moving back/forth between them unless I start at the top (bottom) each time....will definitely start using the middle strings (d, g) to slide between them and remember the root notes...love your tips/tricks brother, they're exactly what I need! Blessings! 🙂
If you know the center strings, well, it’s easy to jump through the different positions and then go up up and down! Thanks for checking in Les! Talk to you soon buddy👍
That’s wonderful ❤. Keep the good job.
Top lesson. Thanks heaps Rusty. Always fun and productive. Cheers mate.✌️
Hey Bruce, thank you for checking in! I hope you enjoy your weekend! Merry Christmas and happy new year! Cheers 🙏
David Gilmour, Eric Clapton and Mark Knofler all play up and down the fretts in The Wall, Sultans of Swing and Layla ( acoustic) Exactly what you are teaching and all 3 song's are in D minor too Rusty what you teach on your Utube channel is 99.9% Above the rest! Your the Best!! Cheers from Australia
You are so right! Many players use this concept. Thanks for the great comment! And I really do appreciate the positive feedback! Means a lot buddy👍
Thanks Rusty! Keep doing what you're doing brother, it's definitely helping those of us who struggle with the basics! (looking at me) :-)

I have yet to view one of your videos without getting loads from it. You are to the point, precise and a master at 'joining the dots' as far as scale understanding and implementation is concerned. Keep doin' what you're doin'.

Right on William! Good to hear from you and have a rockin day 🤛
This is a great idea, i might finally learn how to connect up the positions and actually enjoy the process instead of trying to memorise the whole box and quickly getting bored.....top job.
Cool Jon! Hope you have fun with it 🤛
Thank again Rusty, I haven’t commented in a while, but I’m watching and learning. I’m really trying to take your lessons to heart but it’s a slow process. I’m finally learning to think and not just copy.
Hey Rick, thank you for your continued support! Glad you’re getting something from the lesson’s! Have fun playing that guitar 🎸 buddy! Talk to you later 👍
I know the boxes and can play them easily. But when improvising, I can't make my mind focus on boxes. Never have been able to. I know where my root notes are, my intervals, and I just play from there, in an appropriate mode for what I want to do. Major, minor, Dorain or Mixo, are generally all I ever use. I think not seeing the boxes has been a blessing for me. Seeing roots everywhere on the fretboard and the intervals means I can move all around sonically and not be "boxed in." LOL. Great lesson for the 98% that use the boxes. I always enjoy your lessons and how you present them.
Hey Rusty, after reading your comment here, you are definitely working on the right things! The more you work on this stuff, the more confident you will get! I appreciate the feedback! Talk to you soon, man 🤛
Wow, that's a great tip to know - I use that method quite often, and the same scale concept is handy for slide as well! Saves me the trouble of tuning down, etc. That Strat has a beautiful tone!!
Thanks for checking in man! I really appreciate it! Great video, you posted today! Playing from the heart! Later buddy👍
Thanks Rusty you are turning my practice into music brother :)
Thanks so much Dave! This support is really appreciated buddy! Keep rockin ✌️

I love these tips. Thanks very much Rusty.
I appreciate that PH! And you’re welcome 👌
This is really helpful. Attacking the fretboard in small chunks is a great way to learn and add to your muscle memory arsenal. Eventually you will expand and know all the full pentatonic shapes. Once you get past that first position stagnation then your playing will bloom. Thanks for these great tips.
Right on Stan! Thanks bro 😎

Excellent stuff again! Thanks a lot! 🥇
Much appreciated mate! Thanks 👍
That’s a great tip ... start the solo in the 4th position of the pentatonic when you’re in a minor chord as you’ve shown in the vid ! I often do this while jamming because the notes of the scale are already under the fingers so it’s easy to pick it up from there ...
You are right John! Always appreciate you visiting the channel! Thanks and have a great weekend👍

Great lesson Rusty..........I've had great success lately from your last lesson improvising with the c major scale and playing the chord shapes.........I've made a huge improvement..........I tried the same thing with another lesson you posted some time ago...........melodic soloing in the c sharp minor pentatonic scale.. ........the chords were c sharp minor A E and B.........but I'm not having as much success with that..........particularly with the d shaped A chord............can you offer any advice as to what I'm doing wrong there? Paul from Ireland
I’m sure you’re not alone with those struggles, Paul! Try using only one of the notes in the triad as the A chord comes about. The E note, and the C# note are already in the C# minor pentatonic. Sometimes just targeting the notes in two of the chords will help. Just keep in mind. Most of the notes are already in the pentatonic scale that you are using. Hopefully this helps! I always appreciate your feedback, Paul! Talk to you soon buddy.👍
Thanks Rusty actually the a note on its own does sound OK...............thanks for all these videos they are a great resource and personally for me have really helped my playing to get better

Happy to hear that! Thank you! Later bro 😎
Ooh, nice lesson. It's good to learn an easy way to move between different positions. But I have a question. What is the method used to number the different positions of the D minor scale?
Thanks MBS! 1st position minor pentatonic starts with the root note on the E string. So with D minor pentatonic 1st position starts on the 10th fret of the E string. The other positions start on the next note of the scale on the E string. I will definitely go over that in an upcoming video. Thanks and talk to you soon.👍
Great tips
I’m happy to help! Thanks Tony 👍

Really love the lessons. They are very well presented and have clear points. However, as a teacher myself, and I see this on other videos as well, why would you put up confusing graphics that are upside-down and backward to what I see your hand doing.
Thank you for doing these very valuable videos
Thanks a lot for the feedback! For years, that was the standard for guitar diagrams. Almost anything you look up on the Internet had that upside down diagram. But just recently I did change it up. The diagrams are much clearer and are exactly what you see on the actual guitar fretboard as I’m teaching. I appreciate you checking out the video. Talk to you soon. Thanks.👍
@@rustysguitar1 thank you sir...as I said, very well presented. I'm over 70 and just learning lead 6 string. I have been playing e9 pedal steel for about eight years. As everyone starting late in life, I find myself wishing I I had started much earlier. But the key to it all is to have fun, and I am..
@mljsthompson Well thank you for checking out my lessons! It sounds like you’re having fun! Let’s keep working on this stuff together. Talk to you soon.👍
Nice! Thanks! Yes when I play a dm chord I always go to to the first position and then work my way down to find the shape that is there. So is there another way to know what position to play with what ever chord your using other than memorizing what shape is there. Like with the caged system isn’t it that if I’m playing a E shape chord then position 2 goes with it and if I’m playing a D shape then position 3 goes with it and then C shape is 4 and so on ? Sorry it gets so confusing sometimes 😊
Hey Julie, these are great questions! I don’t use the caged system. But that is a great way to visualize the fretboard for sure. If you can see those chord shapes within the pentatonic position that you are using, you will have so much confidence to play a melodic solo. It also makes you a better rhythm player. Honestly I use the root note to visualize the fretboard and build chord shapes and scales around that note. Knowing the home base notes is important! But as you said, at the end of the comment, using chord, shapes is a great way to play the guitar with confidence! Thanks Julie! I appreciate your comment! Enjoy the rest of your week ❤️
Great lesson!
I struggle sometimes with connecting licks melodically. Symbolically speaking, my sentences arent always connected. How can I work on that and which one of your videos can help me?
I have several videos that are more melodic. But this one here is a good one. LEAD GUITAR // Best 4 Notes To Learn

I sure think a better way to "sell" us on taking timevto watch this video or choose it over other tutorials would be to start with some demos of what this lesson wiil for the student as far as sound. Will it appeal to me? The old WIFME principle.... What's In It For Me? I dont think ive ever heard an improvised so that moved me, so im a tough sell.
Actually, in this video, I talked about and demoed exactly what I was going to teach in the video. Definitely more beginner intermediate.
